Hi - We will be staying at the Polynesian with our family of four in January. My question is that my husband is diabetic and would rather order a salad then a dessert. Does anyone know if this would be allowed? In the new dining plan the appetizer is not included. He does occasionally have dessert as long as there is not tons of sugar but just wondering if this would be possible?

Probably not - or they'll have alot of people ordering appetizers instead of the included desserts. They'll probably offer a sugar-free dessert instead. However, we won't know for sure until either Disney comes out & says they'll allow this, or 2008 begins and we start hearing from people who bought the ddp.

WOW... I just read up on the new DDP. Is there a seperate thread on this somewhere?

I CAN NOT belevie the HUGE change. It is not even a modest increase! Appetizer and gratuities are NO LONGER included. Lets do some conservative math:

Fam of 4 (2 Adult & 2 Children)
Daily DDP = $96.00
Now add the originally included Appetizers of approx. $7.50 x 2 Adults = $15.00
Now add gratuity on the table service bill (Approx.) $85.oo x 18% = $15.00

New Daily total for the same food and service = $126.00

AN INCREASE OUT OF POCKET OF APPROX. 31%

I could have taken the gratuity not being included, but to take AWAY a portion of the food???

To the OP, when you order tell your server the situation and see what they can offer. WDW restaurants are very good about working with guests with specific dining needs.

OnMedic -- Just do not get the DDP if you do not like the changes. :confused3

Luv2roam is right – but working with the Guest in this case would tend to be finding or creating a dessert he can eat, not substituting a course not included on the Dining Plan.

We just came back and at Pizza Planet I told the lady to not give me two of the salads as I knew my girls wouldn't eat them. She told me to pick out two extra desserts. I don't know if this would happen at a TS or if this was normal, but it happened to us at a CS
