2008 DDP Question

No appetizer and tip not included anymore. Also, the plan is $1 per adult less. There are other plans available also, however, I just read on the DDP board that DVC members only can purchase the basic plan.

DVC members can purchase the deluxe plan in 2008.

So it looks like Disney took the wrong approach on this one! Sad we have 12 people going down and will now step away from the DDP. It has always worked in our favor but according to my quick calculations it would cost more now.

Nice job Disney, keep sending us packin'

Everyone has to do their own math, but it's no longer a good deal for our family.

We have two adults and one child and were only truly saving about $75 per 5-day trip before the changes. The loss of the gratuity alone killed it for us.

We're actually looking forward to eating almost exclusively offsite on our next trip. We'll probably only do one character meal onsite. There are a lot of good offsite choices, including many with better food.

However, although DDP 2008 is not as attractive as it's been in recent years, it will still benefit some families -- especially families with several children.

We are out.....The changes in the plan has us not using it...
The value just isn't there anymore......
We may even eat a few meals off premises this year....

DH and I will continue to use the plan. Although the savings will not be as great as in 2007, there continues to be a savings for us, especially since we have no desire to leave WDW property while on vacation.

we are here at BCV now and we are still on the old dining plan, if you checked in before jan. 1st until you check out you are still on the old dining plan. the new dining plan for snacks are (1) single serving, no mre large bags of chips, salsa, doughnuts, eggs, big boxes of cookies, etc. if you are on the old dining plan make sure you tell them you are on the old DDP and speak to the manager because you are suppose to get the old DDp snacks.

we move to the BWV tomorrow and i didnt add the DDP, with not geting the appitizer, paying the tip ( plus having six or more people the tip is added
(18%)in automatic, and with the service we have been having the last few trips wasnt worth 18% tip. now with the smaller snacks, it is not worth the $1 discount but then the extra money for the tip. I will eat on wdw property but not forced to order all the $$$$ meals. besides look at all the weight everyone will loose without the dining plan, Im going with the wdw diet plan:lmao: on every trip (NO DDP).

We have never gotten the DDP, and now we DEFINATELY never will. We like to eat at table service restaurants alot of the time, and we have 3 kids- DS13 is autistic, and will eat nothing but fries when we are in restaurants (I know, it's horrible, we supplement him with TONS of other nutritional stuff). Between that, and my DS10 who prefers to order off the kids menu down there (but eats VERY well at home), it just has never made sense for us. I mean, $70 a day for french fries???? Exactly how many potatoes would that be for us to break even? LOL! And exactly how many 10 yr olds want to order orange roughy over chicken nuggets? I guess I always felt like I must be missing something, alot of folks are very fond of the ddp, but now I'm thinking maybe I haven't missed anything at all.

I'll actually be glad when they do away with the DDP completely.

They've dumbed down the menus at the restaurants so much so they would work with the plan, that many good meal items disappeared.

We've had the DDE card but not sure if we'll even continue that. The regular DVC and AP discounts aren't that bad. There's no way we would spend as much EVERY DAY for food that the DDP provides, and costs.

I agree. Some days we spent more $ than the DDP would have cost, some days less. But overall on a 9 day trip, it would've cost us about $200 more to use the DDP...and that is when it included gratuity.

count us in as a family who's out.

planning our next trip we realize that our daughter who's eating habbits may change by then prob won't change that much doesn't even eat $10 worth of food. infact we're hard pushed to get her to eat much of anything off our plates.

plus since we're DVC and have a kitchen at our disposal we'll save quite a bit by buying food and making our breakfast and coming back for lunch or dinner most days

since we stay anywhere between 10-14 days paying 2500 for food is just way too much. so one dinner out is plenty.

Didn't usually eat the desserts but loved the apps so no DDP for us anymore. Will probably stick with mostly counter service and maybe one or two TS for a 7- 8 day trip. Will do more in villa or offsite eating also.

I couldn't have said it better, Bill! We have used the DDP in the past, but we will NOT be using it any longer. The DDE card will be our discount of choice. Of course, they are making that less palatable too with the automatic 18% gratuity added to all DDE bills (no matter how many people). It actually will mean we will tip less, since we usually do 20%, but DH figures if Disney thinks 18% is enough, that's what we'll go with. The only restaurants we think continue to be worth the price these days are Jiko, Teppan Edo, and Artist Point anyway.

I sure hope someone from Disney is reading this to see how many customers they are losing and will use in the future! The thing that makes me nervous is will they start changing DVC or adding fees to DVC stay and reservations. I seen it happen with other timeshares.

For instance we had a timeshare in Orlando years ago and they all of a sudden starting to charge us the tax on a reservation then $25.00 booking fees, we of course sold.
