FEBRUARY-Anna Nicole Smith, a former playboy model and center of controversy, dies in Hollywood, Florida of a drug overdose.
APRIL-A gunman kills over 30 people on the campus of Virginia Tech University. The gunman was a student. He also killed himself. He sent tapes into NBC before the attacks, explaining why he did what he did.
MAY-Madeline McCann goes missing in Portugal. The young British girl dissapeared, said her parents. She has yet to be found, and it seems as if her parents are suspects.
JULY-The last installment of the Harry Potter book series is released, and many fans waited for the midnight release. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sold over 11 million books in the first ten days in the US.
AUGUST-Mattel is forced to recall millions of childrens toys that have been tainted with lead. In the following months, Mattel had to recall millions more toys, including many Disney toys.
AUGUST 1st-During rush hour, a bridge over the Miss. River in Minn. collapses, leaving over 13 people dead.
AUGUST IN SPORTS-Barry Bonds breaks the all time HR record, and is said to have been on human growth hormones. Tom Glavine got 300 career wins with the New York Mets. Michael Vick is accused on dogfighting charges.
OCTOBER- Deadly wildfires rip across California, and at least 14 were killed. 2 of the wildfires have been reported "under investigation" of foul play.
STILL DEVELOPINGDECEMBER-Former Pakistan PM Benazir Bhutto is assasinated. This is expected to send shockwaves around the world.
IN 2008: We will elect a new president, possibly bring the troops home, and will expect to see oil prices rise even more.
