I can't wait to hear from everyone. I am so proud of each and every one of you!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Friday's dinner went great! The Pop Century food court had plenty of space, they were very welcoming (offered to open a special register just for us), and had many different selections for dinner items. We had a fabulous turnout and got a great group photo!

Back to the room at BCV. We tried settling in...I got in bed about 8:30, but couldn't fall asleep. I think I slept about an hour the whole night. I got to borrow Howard for the morning, so we met at 3:15 Sat morning to ride over to the start. Last year, the buses were a mess, but this year went very well. Probably could've taken a later bus and not had to wait so long.

I'm really not a fan of the wave start now. I don't think it's what WDW intended, but I kinda got the impression that Wave C was the second-class citizens of the race. Potties and water were all set up in waves A and B and anytime a wave C runner tried to go past the C staging area, they were reminded where their wave was supposed to wait.

It was nice waiting with other WISHers this year, made the time go by faster. There were probably 10 or 15 of us hanging out at the start...Jen, Howard, Judy, Charlie, Lily, Colleen, Bill, Steve, Molli, Beverly, Kimickey. We dispersed to our respective waves around 5am, where I found Andrew and Darcey of DJBounce. We chatted for awhile til they started moving us up to the start a bit before 6am. We were still walking when the national anthem started along with the fireworks that marked the wave A start. Waited for 10 min until fireworks started wave B, then finally moved up to the start for Wave C. I believe we did start a few minutes before 6:30, but I really preferred the corral start from last year.

Weather was probably a huge factor in everyone's race. I was sure it would be great for me since I've been training in the same type weather all along, but it sure kicked my butt. The first hour went very well. I felt good, kept up my intervals perfectly. Around mile 2, though, I was dripping...really...down my nose and everything. I sweat, but this was way more than normal for me. Saw Anne along the way. The first few miles are tough with nothing to see, but we got to the Daisy parking lot and headed to MK. Saw Krista on the way into TTC, then Carrie, her DH and Cam on Main Street which were great motivators.

There was apparently some invisible wall where I crashed just outside MK. I wore my orthotics and shoes I'd only done up to 4 miles in. My feet were hurting by that time and legs were starting. I realized that I wasn't sweating anymore. I had been wiping my face with a washcloth during each walking interval, but didn't need to anymore. I was worried about dehydration, particularly when I noticed my water bottle was empty around mile 9. I've never run out of water on a run before. I actually drank Powerade and took a Clif Shot from the volunteers during the race...two things I've also never done before. I ended up walking most of the last half of the race. Finish time was 3:06:03, not a PR, but a bit better than last year. Still disappointing.

Cheering for the full on Sunday was great, though. We got out there about 9:45am. Set up at Yacht Club with supplies in case anyone needed them. After the half, I was really concerned about folks running the full due to the weather. Thought we'd missed Christa, but she was the first WISH'er we saw and she looked great. Sara was next, then Matt, then we found Steve just ahead of the 5:00 pace group. Dave was not far behind them. Saw Colleen and MelR running together, then Lynne and Howard. Paul and Scott found us, too. Anne came down and joined us after awhile which was great since I was losing my voice. Saw Carrie, her DH, Dana, Krista, Wendy, Chester, Dave and Erica, Lily, Lisa, Cam and Rhonda. We stayed til the very end and thanked the EMT/paramedics on the bikes for doing such a great job!

And sincere apologies to the lady I saw in front of Rose and Crown wearing her Mickey medal. I'm pretty good with faces, but didn't recognize you and feel like a total idiot :headache: . Please tell me who you were.

It was a great weekend...more of a WISH team event now than a run. Looking forward to next year, though I obviously need to work on my training. Finding the right shoes looks, working out the kinks in the orthotics and making sure I'm hydrating and adding electrolytes properly are tops on the list...oh yeah...and I want to be faster ;)

I have never become an official WISH 'er but would love to become with connected with you guys.

Mel I agree with you the wave thing was kind of intimidating. I know the guy was only trying to do his job but I don't know how many times I saw the guy by the port o pots reminiding people (C Wave) of where thier start was. I was in Wave B-3 but it bugged me everytime I saw someone trying to go to the bathroom.

It was VERY WARM we live and train in Bradenton, FL ; but it was hot !!!:cool1:

By mile two I was soaked !!! but it's all good, at mile 5 - outside the Contemporary my dear children and my parents were waiting to cheer us on:banana: !!

I am in awe of the whole experience - the calypso band, the people cheering us on = everytime I turned around, the marching band, the characters. I have NEVER experinenced anything like that, it was amazing.

It was so amazing that we are registering for the full next year.!!

AS a side note, we signed up in 2007 as supporters of AT, a charity for kids with a degenerative neurological disease, that is relatively unkown of and does not have a lot of support as of yet. This charity has touched my heart and these kids have inspired me. I would encourage you to at least find out about this horrific disesase!! I never knew about it before this marathon, I now I count my self as lucky to be able to help and be aquainted with these precious children!!

I got back home today. I did the 1/2. According to the online results:
Chip time: 3:19
Pace:15.11

I am so proud of myself. I walked/ran the course. It was fun and entertaining. My sister finished about 17 min before me.

When I crossed the finish line, I was told no medals. I was directed to go to the information booth. When I got to the front a young lady said some medals had been found. So, I have my medal. I was a little upset when told no medals because getting the medal was the icing on the cake.

I feel so good right now even though a little sore.

CONGRATS TO ALL!!!

I had a wonderful time during the Half this year!

I was not expecting much from myself for this event. My training was almost non-existant. I have got to get into a habit of exercising daily so that the little things in life do not totally stop my training. My aunt was supposed to come down from IL and do it with me and her DH was going to run with my DH. Well, on Tuesday she ended up in the Hospital and they were not able to attend.

The thing I did not like about the wave the most was once you started moving towards the start there were no more bathrooms and it was pretty much impossible to get back to where the port-a-pots were. If I would have realized that we were going to be waiting so long with no restrooms in sight, I would have gone one more time before heading that way. It was so crowded near the start there was really no way to strech well.

My DH was nice enough to stick with me and my very slow pace (even though at times he might have been a little frustrated with my "speed" (or lack there of:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 ). I was really suprised how crowded it felt even with the waves. I spent a lot of time in the grass the first couple of miles just trying to let faster people by.

Once we got past the first couple of miles the time really flew. The music, characters and cheering groups along the way were really great. I missed going around the Countries in Epcot like we did 2 years ago, but it was still a nice course. It was really hot, but there was water many, many times along the way.

I sprained my ankle earlier this year and around mile 11 I really started feeling it. Whatever I was doing to alleviate the pain in my ankle really hurt my toes. That is really my only complaint today--my toenails are really sore.

We watched the Full at a couple of different spots today, but our boys (2 and 5) got antsy pretty quickly, so we did not watch as much as we would have liked.

My DH is ready to do at least the Full next year and possibly the Goofy. I will plan to do the Half again, but I would like to shave a lot of time off of my pace!!

My big regret was not making it to the WISH meet, that was one of my Favorite parts of the Half 2 years ago!

Congrats to all that finished! I can not wait to hear how everyone did!!

Chip Time: 3:14:51 Pace: 14:51

Keep the reports coming...I'm living vicariously through all of you! Next year I'll be there!:thumbsup2

My Boys did the Kids Races and I thought they were great! I heard lots of negatives about the past kids races, but thought this year was very organized!

They were held this year on the Track at Wide World of Sports. The older kids went first and did 1 Lap around the track. Then the next group did 1/2 a lap (I think this was 4-6, my 5 year old did this one) and then then younger group went 1/4 lap. I did not get to see the Diaper Dash, we were too busy getting our medals!

Here are a couple of pics

The medal is reversible and is pink on the other side (sorry I did not think to take a picture of the other side)

Short version now, long version later.

Key points.

Don't ever, ever, run a marathon if you're sick. Especially if it's crazy head cold sick as of like 3 days prior.
Everyone has said it before but I'll say it again, never try anything new the day of the marathon.
Gels+blocks+powerade=a sticky mess in your stomach that won't digest. Recommend only water with those endurance products.
Biofreeze is pretty durned awesome stuff, but doesn't work for cramps.

Oh and lastly, don't ever run when it's hot, or humid. :scared1:

DW ran the whole half without walking other than the water stops, having never run over 8 miles, and finished in an amazing 2:40ish. I was fine through the first half of the full, and then became dysfunctional.

Goal: 4:22
First half of the full: 2:12
Second half of the full: 3:18
Finish: 5:30ish.

My arms were pushing my legs most of the last mile more than my legs were.

Most importantly though:
"Your registration has been successful!"
DW and I are both going Goofy 08. You heard it here, first.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:
Oh my goodness, I am so glad they found some more for you! That would be really upsetting!

I was at first because I wanted to wear my medal and show it off:goodvibes . But, by being calm and realizing that things happen, some medals were found. :yay:

Congrats to you all can't wait to join in the fun next year.

I think after all that work I would have burst into tears if there was no medals. I agree the medal is the iceing on the cake and one of my reasons for travelling over 2000 kms to a race is because it is disney, I would have be devistated. But they know how many are registered so they have to have enough medals. This has me worried for next year.

Congrats again.

Kim

Please don't be worried. It was probably a fluke. No medals then the next thing u know medals are found.

Copied from another thread:

The Half was great. A little crowded in spots where the course was only 1 car-lane wide, but great nonetheless.

I saw several WISHers as they passed me or I passed them. If timing was right I'd say hi, or at least wave with my green bracelet hand. Does anyone remember seeing me?

A BIIIGGG thank you to the WISHer who picked up my cell phone under the white/scafolding/light-up canopy in Epcot. I wish I was on the ball enough to ask for your name. But, at nearly 13 miles I just wasn't myself. Sorry. And, thanks again.

I finished in 2:53:55 for a 13:16 pace. Not as fast as I had hoped, but I'm pleased, especially considering the congestion on the narrow portions of the course. I walked all but the last quarter-mile when I thought I could make up some time and finish at my target pace. No such luck (and another example of how I wasn't thinking straight in Epcot).

Here are some pictures:

Oh, and despite seeing the condition of today's Full participants as they passed the Boardwalk at mile 24+ and 85 degrees hot, I've decided to do the 2008 Full. It will be my first Full ever.

See you then!

Oh, and one more thing - The entertainment along the course was awesome.

Matt--Oh my goodness! Sorry to hear that the full was hard being sick--as for the hot and humid--guess that's means I should stop running now--ha, ha! Don't think I'll be able to get away from that kind of weather in Arkansas!:rotfl2: THanks for the report! Good luck with the Goofy training this year!:thumbsup2 Oh, and congrats to your DW, that's a great time!!

Thanks for all the reports coming in, can't wait to hear from everyone else. Congrat's to you all!!

I was at the finish for the half - it was so inspiring - CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!!!

I am glad to hear they found medals - I hope everyone got them b/c I saw a lot of people who were really upset!!

Hey guys!
I spoke to Christa (gatorphipps) yesterday right after she finished the race. She was so excited. She said that she felt the heat starting to affect her around mile 20 but the girl still managed to finish in 4:12. Unbelievable! I am so proud of her. She said she was cursing me walking to the start lines because I wasn't there this year but I assured her that next year I'll be back, I was just taking a short break to have a baby :rotfl:

I really missed being a part of if all this year, and I'm already on the count down for next year's race. Now all I need to do is get back into shape.:scared1: I ran 4 miles one day last week and thought I was going to die!!!

~bree~

Sunday was my first marathon and I must say I really appreciate all the people cheering for you when they don't even know you. My goal was just finishing. Last Feb 8th a guy pulled out in front of me while I was going to a housecall on my motorcycle. I was doing about 50 at the time and even with leathers and full face ended up airlifted with a broken pelvis, multiple compund arm and my whole upperjaw, nose and sinuses fractured. Not looking for sympathy, it could have been worse, I'm still here and even with my nerve damage I went from a wheelchair to walker to cane to a 10th of a mile on the treadmill by the end of May to 5-6 miles outside in December to finishing my 1st marathon yesterday. So life is good and I win , the guy who hit me doesn't and I'm in better shape then others I saw entered. I finished, slowly and in pain but I made it.

The heat and humidity wasn't really a that big of a factor simply because that is basically all I know, growing up here. The biggest problem I had was being unable to get full strides. I wasn't ready to have to keep shortening my stride. I saw the crowds before online but figured there would be a way for people to pass each other at least a little. Not complaining because what can you do with that many people but wasn't prepared for it. My fault but I finally realized I was keeping my quads tensed too much with the short strides and this started to get to my left knee before I thought about what I was doing. Somehow ended up putting a small tear in my right achilles tendon also. Overall enjoyed it and hope to be back next year.

Liked the characters, entertainment and animals along the route. Found out I like chocolate powergel alot better then apple pie flavor.

Thanks again to all the great spectators and all the nice runners I met.

I was a first-timer in the half marathon. I really liked the fellow runners, although, it is a bit overwhelming to be in a crowd of more than 12,000 runners.

Volunteers and spectators were terrific, too. Their support was much appreciated.

I finished at 3h25m and there were no medals. :sad1: After maneuvering the massive crowd looking for the information tent, found the Loooong line at the information tent that was growing longer by the second. A man told us that we didn't need to wait in line, that they knew who didn't get medals, and would send them to us. So I left with no medal. Hoping for the best, but not expecting much. Bummer.
