20050618 - June 18, 2005 - Magic to Mexico

Yes, it's a busy time of year.

Update on the missing costume! Yea! It was found and is waiting for us to pick it up on Saturday. (whew!)

Still not more packed. Haven't done any of that in a while. Getting vistors this weekend (MIL & SIL who will be sailing with us; come to see DD's dancin') so trying to get the house in some semblence of reasonableness!

End of fiscal year reports due 6/15 so I'm busy trying to finish that up before I leave next week.

Glad to see everyone is excited and busy with life. Count 4 of us for the informal "meet" up there by Scoops. I need to find out this weekend re the other two in our total party but you'll at least meet the four from Pit. I'll PM Rae Ann the info regarding the others on Monday to make a final headcount. Don't know how long DS will want to stay (teens....need I say more?) :earboy2:

Quick :wave2: to everyone.

Sounds like jellyfish will be a factor for us since we will have a full moon the day we are in Mazatlan. I read somewhere (can't remember where now!) that baking soda works for stings?
Rae Ann, do you know if this works or should I buy meat tenderizer? DD9 has gotten stung twice now and she really swells up, so I want to be prepared.

Where did you find Randi's post about the pinata? My kids had planned on spending the afternoon in the water at Randi's, but I am glad Randi has a "Plan B"

Holly, we had the recorder concert last week. Aren't you glad recorder "practice" is over? :rotfl2:

VB: glad the costume was found. Good Luck on Saturday! :flower:

The cruisers must be having a good time in Cabo. No new updates on the "Live" thread.

Wish me pixie dust for my dr appt tomorrow that my foot is healed. I am more than ready to get out of my "boot". :hourglass

When we'd go camping at the beach in Hawaii, someone usually brings a bottle of meat tenderizer in case of stings. Vinegar also works but it's usually easier to bring a small bottle of meat tenderizer. Once my cousin got stung really badly by a portuguese man-o-war (blue bottle jellyfish). While he was swimming he picked up the jellyfish because he wanted to see what it "looks like" and the jellyfish slid all over his body.

Thank you Rae Ann! Just took a box of baking soda out of the pantry and put it in the suitcase. I already have cortaid. My husband is going to think I have gone off the deep end, if I bring a bottle of vinegar to the beach! :rotfl2: but it does sound like it is the recommended solution.

Best wishes on a good Dr.'s Appt., CACruisin'.....I broke my leg a few years ago and definitely relate to wanting to get "the boot" off. You would make a good peg-leg for Pirate Night, though. pirate: Hey, just trying to find a bright side...but hoping that you're dancing the cruise away sans boot.

Regarding room tours, I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in coming down to "steerage", but I'll volunteer a showing of my Cat 9 room.... :teeth:

Is anyone else with younger kids bringing along special toys for them to play with on the ship? I'm also considering bringing a laptop and some DVDs for movie time in the room - I haven't found a lot of information about the in-room programming.

10 more working days for me!!!

My little recorder star just got home and informed me he wants electric guitar lessons.
I am going to follow Rae Ann's advice and use my key to the world card and a bottle of meat tenderizer to doctor any stings. My family is unanimous about sticking with the snorkel excursion and taking our chances. Of course we won't go in the water if we are advised not to. At least I won't. :rotfl:
So many families in our group and we have not figured out the time frames for arrival at the Port, so I can't commit to the scoops meet yet. I do hope I run into you all! I have to go back and try to memorize the names and see if I can figure it all out. We are picking up people at hotels on the way to the Port from Disneyland so I am at the mercy of others. Did Disney mark the port in anyway?

The good thing about electric guitars.....headphones. :rotfl2:

My parents weren't so lucky when I started making goose-calls with my saxophone....

DB - We were planning on bringing a laptop & dvds for DD (3). I'm also going to bring some coloring books & puzzles for her. I'm trying not to bring too much for her because I hope she'll be spending more time at the Oceaneer's Club or at other activities.

:rotfl: LOL about the saxophone! Our house sounded like a farm when my sister took up the saxophone. First it sounded like a cow mooing...then she was killing a goose!

CACruisin' - More pixie dust for your peg leg.... :wizard:

Holly - I hope you can make it to the meet....if not I'll see ya at Randi's!

Holly: Did you read Deb's latest trip report? Sounds like she had a fabulous time at the Chilleno Bay snorkeling excursion.

We're still planning a lazy day for Cabo because we'll probably be pooped out after the Canopy Tour & horseback riding with Randi. I plan on lounging by a pool with a drink in my hand. :cool1:

It's at the cruisemexico.org site.... Randi sent the link in an email.

I have officially started packing!! I printed out our packing lists, got our big suitcase out & started putting some of our cruise purchases in there.

V-Bug (or anyone else who has to travel far to get to the port): I found the little trial size Tide liquid (good for 4 loads) at Target, if you're planning on doing laundry onboard, let me know & I'll bring one onboard for you.

Does everyone already have lanyards and card holders?

Happy Packing Rae Ann! :cool1:

Lanyards and keyholders are still on the "To Do" list. Any suggestions of where to look?

We will have DVD's, crayons and books for baby girl. And of course we don't go anywhere without her pink "silkie" and bear. Even assuming that she loves Flounders (hopefully!!!) she will still be spending the majority of her time with us. I also have mad libs and playing cards for the older two.

Just read the cruisemexico site -- Thank you! I remember reading this site when we first booked the cruise, but I had forgotten about it. We are really looking forward to our day with Randi and everyone else!

As much as the "peg leg" may be with the pirate: theme, :rotfl2: I would really perfer not to dress the part quite so much. :rolleyes1

Holly, the Cabo excursion sounds fabulous! I'm sure your family will have a great time. :cool1: I am tempted, but snorkeling in cold water is not going to fly with family. :cold:

Dr appt tomorrow, school Aloha Party tomorrow night, swim meet all weekend, then I can focus on the cruise!! :Pinkbounc

LOL! :goodvibes Hey I can relate to the recorder (DS played for 3 yrs) but I now have a Trumpet player! (Mizz M) Well, at least it is NOT a clarinet! That screetching would make me crazy! I can deal with the Blurps! :rotfl: She has a performance at school today at 1:30 PM, and I am planning on attending...that's my lunch hour.

Guess what?! YES! You win! It is raining! All I do is watch California weather now! Looks beautiful out there! To me the June Gloom won't be much to worry about! :)

Oh so sad about those Laguna Beach houses! :guilty: I couldn't afford to re-start everything...and they couldn't even get insurance.

Here's a special early morning (East time) wish for a "good" follow-up visit at the Doc's for Cap't Anne! :wizard:

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To keep us all healthy and happy for our sailing!

Rae Ann - thanks for your kindness! I really don't WANT to do laundry (you know what I mean! :bitelip: ) on the ship! Hubbie may be found working the ironing boards, but I have a long-standing battle with ironing- I generally iron in more wrinkles than I started out with.... pirate: pirate: arrrrr! I have packed some of those tablet thingys. Do they work as well? :confused3 I generally use liquids at home (buy the Monster size!) so don't know.

This is our last weekend at home! DB - Not counting today (because it's already started) I have 4 working days! You're not far behind! :goodvibes

:rotfl: I have one of those here too! My DD 15 has played for 3 years. My DD 6 was soooooooooo inspired by her brother's recorder concert that she blew that darn thing all night long. :sad2: Oh well...one day I will be complaining about how quiet the house is. Can't make me happy I guess.
I really need to find something cool for the Tooth Fairy to bring my DD 6 on the cruise! She has lost her two front teeth, and when the second one fell out she hid it from the Tooth Fairy because she wants the Tooth Fairy's cousin Tinkerbell to take it from the ship. :wizard: At least I have Disneyland before the cruise as a back up place to look if I can't find anything before then.
Well, I have to get moving this morning! Much to be done!
Have a great day!

Happy Friday fellow cruisers! :cool1: The sun has peeked out this morning :sunny: Spent yesterday afternoon in Culver City at a Vet Oncologist with my Bandit boy (he is part Rott and part Black Lab). It was gloomy all afternoon. I am really getting antsy for the cruise to start :Pinkbounc

VBug: LOL at your ironing battles! We used the tablets on last cruise and they worked great! Have fun at the swim meet.

CaCruisin: :wizard: More Pixie dust for a healed foot!

I am looking forward to the scoops meet! We are in Cat. 6 and would be happy to be part of the room "tour". I think I'll start packing tomorrow. I hate to start too soon. :earboy2:

15 more days :hourglass

:wave2: I had not thought about a lanyard or card holder. Any ideas or suggestions on where to look. Do you think they have something that can be used at DL. We are thinking of going to the park tomorrow.

Tink

I have a bunch of lanyards (plain black) and some cardholders from work. The cardholders are pretty nice. They're a rigid plastic with a thumb notch in the back that allows you to take out your card easily.
18406000.gif

I have enough for 2 for each regular poster (holly, cacruisin, dlander, v-bug, db, tink) but I can probably get more.

3 years of recorder!! aaackk! 3 month of practice for each 4th grader was more than enough for me! With all this talk of clarinets, trumpets, electric guitars, sax's -- piano practices are looking really good :rotfl:

VB: :rotfl2: I am completely with you on the ironing!! DH is a way better "ironer" It is the only way his shirts would be ironed! Sorry to hear about the rain :umbrella: June Gloom has aready burned off today  I can't promise :sunny: CA for you, but it would be really unusual for it to actually :umbrella: .Have a wonderful concert this afternoon and a great recital tomorrow! :goodvibes

Holly: DD11 lost her last babytooth this morning! It is not Disney, but the toothfairy always leave the gold $1 coins here. :goodvibes If you don't find anything beforehand, the Candy Palace at DL has a chocolate coin treasure chest. How cute that your DD wants "tink!"

Dlander: sorry to hear about your Bandit.

Thanks all for the :wizard: for the foot - much appreciated!

:cheer2: :cheer2: for everyone counting down the final days before vacations begin!!

Showing my newbie-ness, again. But, what are the lanyards and card-holders for? :confused3 Thanks for the card-holder offer, Rae Ann. I have the lanyard straps for holding my work badge, but not the card holder.

Also, for those of you who have cruised before, do you find 2-way radios useful? I'm thinking they would come in handy, but would prefer not to drag them along if they're not really necesary.

Thanks for letting me leverage the collective experience of the group. :moped: I'm still trying to write the list of the things to pack - never mind actually packing!
