But the good news is...............................................

I GOT AN UNEXPECTED BONUS TODAY!!!!

We came through our audit with flying colors, the best we have ever done and the CEO gave me a bonus! I'll give it to myself on next payroll April 30, just in time for the cruise!!!! She had a meeting with me this morning and told me how valuable I am to this organization. It was all about ME!!!! :cool1: :cool1:

Anyway, guess she can survive for two weeks without me after all. I guess now is as good a time as any to put in that vacation slip for two more days off for May 5 and 6. Catch her while she is in a good mood!

Linda

Linda... :cheer2: CONGRATULATIONS!!! :cheer2: I'm so happy for you. It's so nice when nice things happen to nice people! You deserve it. It's great to know that you are appreciated by those in management!

Hi- My name is Celeste. My husband and six year old son will be on the May 14 cruise. We are in cabin 7616. I am new to this site- and honestly I find the layout confusing! Anyone who would be willing to help out- I would appreciate it.

I have been lurking on the cruiseforless site and was referred here.

I thougt somone had said there was a place where you could register with your cabin number?

Here is a little info about me and my family.
My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary while on board.
I will be studying while on board- grad school
I grew up in Utah. My husband grew up in NY.
We moved to Illinois two years ago from Mass.

Thanks for any 411.

Linda, CONGRATULATIONS! on the bonus! First round of drinks on you, eh?!? :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sandra, that is a good question. No, DCL still doesn't allow jeans in the dining rooms. In fact, they've even gotten more strict in what can be worn at Palo (no more Tommy Bahama style shirts). That being said, you will still see jeans from time to time in the dining rooms. It's hard to say on the shorts for your DS...he's a little older than I could imagine kids being able to get away with shorts, but I don't have kids either. Anyone else have thoughts?

Welcome Celeste! Glad you joined us. Just look at Peter's (Hygienne 99) daily updates for what's going on before, during, and after the cruise with this group. In that update, you will also see where to send your cabin number and other information, which is maintained by Jeff and Jen.

I think DH and I fly out at 3:45 and my parents fly out at 3:30. We scheduled slightly later flights because we weren't going very far (it's only about an hour flight) and we thought there might be delays at the port from ceremonies, plus possibly immigration and luggage delays. Oh, and because we have late seating, we will be the second group off the ship.

On the 10-day, there was a delay getting off the ship because there was so much luggage, they had a hard time getting it off the ship fast enough for us to also disembark. I suspect this will be the same, if not worse because this is not DCL's normal port.

I will post when I figure out how much a shuttle will be... :moped:

OK so you DCL experts - I know this will be a new situation for all involved, but any general estimate as to when we might expect to be off the ship? We're also late seating.
I'm working on my LA transportation, but not sure what to use as a pick-up time at the port.

Welcome to the board! The best way to see what is going on is to check out Hygiene99 (Jenn and Peter) summeries, they do a great job. Last summery was on page 538, entry #8059.

Where did DH (husband) grow up in N.Y.? I was born in Amityville, grew up in Bellport and Bay Shore (Suffolk County). DW (wife) grew up in Islip. Alex :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Topsiders is open for breakfast the day we arrive in port. It's not a sit down breakfast, but you could get off the ship sooner. At Port Canaveral people line up early in the atrium, so the earlier you eat the closer to the front of the line you get (unless someone skips breakfast and holds a place for you). Just a thought. Hmmm, that's hard to say, but I would think 9:30 for late seating is a safe pickup time. The companies that are used to picking up for cruises understand that you might be running late. We had a pick-up time of 9am for the 10-day and we were about 20 minutes late. Our driver was totally cool with it, so no trouble. They kinda hear what's going on from other passengers departing and porters and such.

You have to figure DCL wants us off the ship asap because they are turning around same day to start the first 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise (you lucky dogs, firstimers!). DCL needs to get the ship ready, so they'll do what they can to get us out on time, and I think 10am is the absolute latest you can be on the ship without being "tossed."

Scion.com, or Toyota.com, should get you a look at the Scion Xb, ugliest car on 4 wheels and its brother, a not bad looking, but cramped for a scooter, Xa.

Have you ever seen a Pontiac Aztek? The show Survivor featured them about 4 years ago. The marketing campaign was "quite possibly the most versatile vehicle on the planet." We love  ours. However, it is quite possibly the ugliest vehicle on the planet.

P.S. I'm going to be in such trouble with Kevin tonight!

Actually, DCL has changed the dress policy lately and jeans are now allowed. Here is the quote from the Dreams Unlimited site:

"DINING DRESS CODE

As part of the "Cruise Casual" policy, it is asked that you do not wear tank tops, swimwear or shorts to the dining rooms. Jeans are allowed. "

The dress code at Palo has also changed:
"During dinner, gentlemen dining at Palo will be required to wear a dress shirt. Gentlemen wearing polo shirts, t-shirts, Tommy Bahama style shirts, etc will not be allowed admittance. Jackets and/or ties are recommended but not required. Notices will be in the Personal Navigator, on the Palo reservation card and a sign outside the elevators on deck 10 will contain this dress advisory. "

So, with all that . . . I'm going to let my DS9 wear nice shorts / polo on nights that he will be headed out quickly to the lab. Other nights (formal, semi formal, and nights there is a production in the theater) he will be in regular long pants.

Thank you for the warm welcome!
I am an adult ICU nurse in a small mixed unit- which means we take care of everyone over the age of 16 needed intensive care. We are not a trauma center- so they go to a larger hospital and we send out people who are able to be transported and need heart catherization- otherwise they stay.
I am currenlty in school at Rush University in Chicago- online this semester. I am going to school to be an Critical Care Nurse Practitioner.

My husband grew up in Selden and went to Hofstra.

Talk to you all soon!

RE dress code for kids - mine have been on a few Disney cruises. Kids can dress in shorts for dinner - I just put a collared knitted shirt on them instead of a t-shirt, so they look nicer. It was recommended (by the official Disney Cruise site) that until the boys turn 13 or so, they would be ok in shorts at dinner. My 11/almost 12 yr old son has some button down shirts which he will wear open over colored t-shirts. Depending upon the evening's dress code, he'll have nice shorts on or slacks. You will see all kinds of variation in dress at dinner - and that's just the adults!!!:)

:earseek: Holy cow, you will just never know how happy that will make some of our dining mates. A co-worker and his partner will be sitting at our table. They HATE to dress for dinners, so jeans will make them super happy. Thanks for posting that update! I still won't let my DH wear jeans (not that he would anyway - too hot!) but for others, that will help for such a long cruise.

Read this on the regular cruise board, sounds really exciting:

May 23rd in Acapulco

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My company, through me, is arranging the following activities:

A tug boat welcoming you in with it's fire hoses blasting, I will have a military vessel escort the ship from 12 miles out from the bay. Folkloric dancers on the pier, greeting and saying hi; great oportunity to take pictures, 2 clowns giving out balloons and a few guys on stilts and in the evening before sailing 15 blasts of fireworks.

Thisis what we want to do, but I need to meet up with municpal authorities to see if they want to pitch in the festivities.

Hopefully I will earn/get my golden ears.....

Welcome Celeste. In no time at all you'll be an expert at navigating this site! Don't worry, it took me awhile to figure it out too!

PM (Private Message) to me or to Hygiene99 and we will put the date and names in our Mini Navigator for your anniversary. You can either go to left column where my name shows "Seaulater" and use drop down menu to PM me or you can post it here as a quote or reply.

I live in Salt Lake City! Where in Utah did you grow up?
