Do the 2005 guidebooks give suggestions on touring with MYW tickets and packages, or were they printed before there was any knowlegde of MYW?

They were probably printed before the change was announced. I am sure they will all provide updates on their website. I have heard that several would have files you could download and print with the new information.

Hi Lovethattink,

The Unofficial Guide will have an update on the MYW tickets, new EMH, and more by the end of the week. We've already updated our Least Expensive Ticket Options page to include new MYW prices from Disney, The Official Ticket Center, and Maple Leaf Tickets. All prices were current as of Sunday evening.

Hope this helps!

Out of curiosity, I thumbed through a copy of the Official Guide at the bookstore a couple weeks ago. I figured that WDW would at least clue their "Official" guidebook team on to the drastic changes coming in 2005.

Nope, the Birnbaum books still reference the "old" tickets and packages. Seems like a foolish move on their part, since if you purchase something slugged as "OFFICIAL GUIDE" you excpet it to be at least factually accurate (with a side of bias and rose-tinting).

It would seem to me that Disney could have had the books printed with all the new 2005 programs included, but placed a moratorium on selling them until the press release date of December 2.

As far as which guide book actually left the bookstore with me, it was the Unofficial guide.

I don't think Disney releases anything until they are ready to. So they kept it a secret. I hope Disney doesn't have the power to hold up sales of a book.

We have PAP's and go to WDW all the time, about once a week. Each year I pick up one of these guides. I'm amazed at how much there is at WDW that we still haven't experienced. These guides are particularly helpful when family visits us from up north.

Passporter 2005 is released later this month, maybe it will have something in it about MYW tickets.

It may, but I think they start printing in October, or November. I don't know if that's the case, but I have a feeling MYW won't appear in the guidebooks until the 2006 editions come out.

PassPorter 2005 has the old information in the actual books which were at the printers when the new tickets were released.

However, they will have the updates (change pages) on the website in a printable .pdf format that can be inserted into the PassPorters.

That is what is nice about PassPorter (at least the three ring version), when there are updates, you can actuall replace the pages.

From what I understand, the 2nd printing of Unofficial Guide will have the new info in the book.

Safetymom,

Ordinarily I would agree with you, but the Official Guide is a book that is purported to be just as it claims, the Official Authorized guide. Which would seem to indicate that someone in the WDW organization is giving it the once over before release.

I mean the people at WDW could have just hinted: "you may want to wait till December 2" The offical guidebook is in essance another advertising tool the parks have at their disposal. It would seem to be better for them for people to get the correct answer from a 2005 guidebook about 2005.

(Besides they could have played it up, released it Dec 2 as the ONLY WDW guidebook to cover MYW, tied it into the press release and all "For more information...") Missed marketing opportunity for them.

Or am I thinking the Official Guide and WDW are much closer together than they are in reality?

I think you would have to ask the Unofficial Guide people what the arrangement is. I think the Guidebook did the best it could by updating the information on their website.

I've got Birnbaums and the Official Guide and they are both great, but to be honest, I've learned even more here on the DIS Boards!

You all are great!!!
