Blimey Johnny posting on the Community Board!

Firstly, I haven't posted on here for a long long time - why? because I come on here to talk about Florida, nothing else. No disrespect to this forum, but it's just not why I like the DIS. However, I did for some reason decide to browse on here today and have looked through this thread.

In the past I have posted such 'milestones' on here as 2000 posts etc, to be honest I wouldn't do it again - mainly as I say because I do spend a lot less time on here these days plus threads such as 'word association games' etc are not for me- hence I pass them by ( threads on villas, when to go to Florida, and even where to buy Heinz Beans in Orlando  are pounced on like a panther however).

I agree there is no reason why Laura shouldn't post whatever she likes without the need for it turning into a debate, I am also of the opinion that 'post counts' are irrelevant and it is what you say that's important.
I would rather help someone find the ideal villa with 1 post than write 50 'what are you up to this weekend' or 'your favourite song of all time' type posts etc - but that's just my choice and preference and we all have different one's as Alan refers to earlier.

Personally I feel AndRu is a mate (which is why I am really posting here I guess), I am not saying I agree with what he has said here.

I have a lot of stress in my family life looking after my wonderful young son, as many of you know is Autistic - after a recent car accident almost meant we were unable to go to Florida in August the first person to PM me was AndRu, he was also the first to PM me after my son was taken ill on our August holiday, for me he has always been very supportive....as such I cannot ignore his posts, should others choose to then fine but I can't.

Having said that my own future on the boards is cloudy as we have just cancelled our July booking - Joshua's health comes first, at the moment we cannot see ourselves returning, the New Year could see a goodbye from me on these boards, with no further trips planned it just wouldn't be the same - we shall see I guess.
However, enough of all my boring ramblings, this is not about me is it? Congratulations on your 200+ Laura, keep posting ;) - hope you have a good Christmas everyone! :)

Johnny - That's why there are boards for all different interests here on the DIS. But 'bashing' someones happy post for the hell of it isn't what these boards are about.

This is a Community Board and it can be used for whatever anyone wants to post and if people don't like it - don't read it. It is really not that hard!

I don't agree with what Andru said, what people post is really up to them and this board is as you say for fun. Can I just say as an outsider to the 'group' on this board that when you read through this thread is doesn't sound 'fun'. Okay what he said niggled but all the same it seems to have been taken to the exteme to get back at him - even digging up a post from 2005. There is Andru v the rest and to be honest it's not that nice to read.

Just my twopenneth for what it's worth, I wanted to write this earlier but I chickened out until I read Johnny's post and so decided to feel brave enough to put down what I felt.

Johnny I hope all goes well for you all in the future.
Laura congratulations on your 200th post and being tagged.

I have to say I do agree with Kaylee.

Pointing out that AndRu's view may not be particularly sound, does not equal 'getting back at him'. I welcome his contribution to these forums and believe it makes them a more interesting place, but if you're going to make controversial statements, you've got to be prepared to be challenged (and I'm sure he is).

Which was done AFTER he picked holes in Florences post count! Which he dug about for

If you post something like he has you need to expect some responses. I am sure it was only posted to :stir: as usual.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion Cazzie as everyone else is :)

On a happy note only 3 more posts until you reach 900!!! :cheer2:

In my own opinion, with 8 days till christmas an argument is the least of our worries. We are family, and families shouldn't argue at Christmas. This might be me feeling sentimental after Johnny's Post (to which I sent a very heartfilled PM to him afterwards) but right now this is what I feel, despite turning me into a huge hippocrite.

So, Merry Christmas, Happy Posting and have an arguement free new year. :goodvibes

Johnny, I just wanted to say that I hope you don't disappear from the boards. I for one value your contribution, and your knowledge of Florida has helped so many people.

I know it must be so hard for you in your situation, and it's patently obvious that you are an awesome father to Joshua. I'm sorry you have had to cancel this year's trip, and I can understand why visiting these boards when you can't go yourself would be difficult. I just wanted you to know your value to the boards is recognised by me at least.

And you're a fellow Red, and I'm very jealous of the fact you are a season ticket holder (from someone who has been on the neverending waiting list for a few years, and worries she will be ancient if ever she got to the top!).

I agree that the use of these boards is a personal thing, and the fact someone isn't so interested in the 'chit chat' side of things or post counts is not relevant to their value. I just wanted you to know that the contributions you have made have helped many peoepl

What a sad world we live in when people spamming a message board xxx number of times is something to be celebrated. Face it. If you spoke to your “Real Life” friends and told them that you had reached a post count landmark / milestone (SIC!) on an internet message board, would they be impressed? Would you mention this “achievement” when applying for job? Would you discuss it when you’re at a Christmas party when making small talk with your partners colleagues? I’m sure they’d be very impressed …

Give a monkey a keyboard and they’d manage to hit the submit button now and again. Should they be congratulated for this? Still, a monkey would probably get bored pressing the button 16+ times a day like some do just to get increase their post count++ and have these pointless threads.

Post counts simply encourage meaningless spam to reach worthless targets. If you want a target, raise some money for charity, lose some weight, get a qualification, teach your child to swim, do shopping for a neighbour, save up to go on holiday – all things that I’d be more than happy to celebrate with you. But not for being addicted to pressing the “submit” button on a message board.

Speaking of constructive targets, I’m off to the pool now with my kids and Chatsworth House this afternoon – not a Submit button in sight. :sunny:

How Judgemental, what makes you think people are not doing those things?

Ok, I think everybody has had their say and opinions have been shared, and as such its now come to the time when the thread has gone way off topic and time to go before it turns into a more serious debate.

Congatulations Laura, here is to many more posts for you. :thumbsup2

Merry Christmas All and have a happy 2007 :goodvibes :goodvibes
