2 year old eating in DLP

We have just booked our first trip with our son for the end of September when he will be just shy of 2 years old and we're a bit concerned about feeding him. He really likes his grub and eats a good selection of food (eating normal food now not baby food). It says that children under 2 eat free, does this mean that if we book a character meal buffet he will still get a plate and we can pick food from the buffet from him?, or do we give him food from our plates or should we book a child's meal for him (but they say they're for 3-11 year olds)?

Kids under 3 eat free at buffets so would get his own plate and some people have been getting free meals at table service restaurants too.
