Sorry in advance if the report comes out choppy. I started writing at 7am this morning and finally finished just prior to 3pm -- work is always getting in the way of my personal time! I'm also sure my DW will say something about my sentence fragments :rolleyes1:

Day 1 - June 15 - Travel Day

We got to MSP Lindbergh terminal at around 5pm Central time Thursday and find out our flight is delayed by about a hour. Fortunately our 2 year old DD Kaitlyn was very amused by the moving walkways by our gate and we also eventually found a playground in concourse C. So really, the hour delay was GREAT as it gave us a chance to run the energy out of the toddler! By the time we got on the plane at 8, she was pretty pooped and slept almost immediately and did so for a couple hours. After that point, she was entertained by stuffed animals and coloring books. She really did well on the flight I thought. I was mostly concerned about the air pressure bothering her ears and the noise but neither seemed to phase her one bit.

We arrived at MCO around 12am Eastern time, gathered our luggage, and went to the Budget counter to receive a Buick Le Saber. Got to the hotel, which was the Best Western Lakeside on 192, around 1am and unpacked while keeping the toddler from getting too overstimulated. 2am came and we finally were in bed and had the lights off! Kaitlyn amazingly goes right to sleep! Phew! We've stayed at this particular hotel before via Hotwire.com. At the time, it was a La Quinta and had switched over to a Best Western maybe a month after our first visit. It was a good deal then just as it was this trip @ $40/night. I felt somewhat guilty for not staying on Disney property but this was too good of a deal to pass up. I always figure the less we spend on a hotel, the more souvenirs we can buy later! Of course the downside to staying off property was paying $9 for parking at the parks each day and also we couldn't take advantage of Extra Magic Hours - no big deal since DD would get all the time her two year old little body could handle anyway.

Day 2 - June 16 - Magic Kingdom day

We awoke after our 5½ hour slumber actually fairly peppy as it was our first park day! Who has time to think about exhaustion at a time like this?! We got to the TTC around 8:30-40 and took the ferry boat to the park instead of the monorail. The last time we went to MK for rope drop, taking the monorail was a disaster. I think something had gone wrong that day with monorail traffic or something of the like but I wasn't going to chance it again especially with a stroller and toddler. This was our first experience with the ferry and we didn't regret it. There was soo much room on board for Kaitlyn to run around - it was great plus I think she really enjoyed being on a boat.

We got there for rope drop at 9am and Kaitlyn got to meet her first character almost immediately - Donald Duck had just set up shop in front of the Roy Disney statue. The three of us got our picture taken and we then continued down Main Street getting passed by a fire truck, the Dapper Dan’s, and a warm welcome from the Mayor. The Mayor did all that he could but could not get Kaitlyn to give him five with his oversized Mickey hand/glove! We stopped for a moment to get our picture taken with the three of us in front of the castle and Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse statue then decided we better make time over to Dumbo! We only waited about 20 minutes before our "flight". We went from there to the Winnie the Pooh ride, a small world ride, then *gasp* the Haunted Mansion! She actually did as well as we expected - which was "handle it just fine" - its all about using the word "fun" instead of "scary". After that we ate at Cosmic Ray’s and then returned for a fastpass at Peter Pan. Lastly for that first shift, we went to see the Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management.

DD was getting awfully tired by now so we headed back to the car the same way which we came, via ferry. But not of course until we purchased a Mickey/Minnie balloon on Main Street per Kaitlyn's request. Once in the car, she passed right out. So instead of waking her up by going to the hotel and sleeping there, she slept in the car while we drove around. First we drove to Belz Mall to check out Disney's Character Premiere. Next we drove back down to the Orlando Premium Outlets as DW had her eyes set on The Cosmetics Company Store there. Kaitlyn eventually woke back up and it started pouring cats and dogs. We decided to get some Chick-fil-A and head back to the hotel after grabbing a few supplies at Walgreens.

The rain started to let up so we decide that its time to get back to the parks. But first we had to stop by the Polynesian to grab our traditional drinks from the Tambu Lounge. I always have to get a Mai Tai and DW gets whatever. Afterwards we strolled down to Bou-Tiki and dropped some credit on some tiki mugs that I had been looking for.

We got back to MK around 7pm and DD finally got to meet Mickey Mouse at the Judge's Tent! She was timid at first but she quickly brought down that emotional barrier and eventually gave him a kiss on the nose. The Photopass photographer got a shot of it so you’ll have to bet on us buying that one. Prior to the photo, we toured their homes. We then headed over to Tomorrowland and went on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority’s people movers, Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, and - I hate to say it - our first Carousel of Progress experience. We saw some of the Wishes fireworks but DD mentioned she was hungry so we made a run over to Pecos Bill since she had not been eating well all day and figured if she was interested, then we had better jump on it! We ate there for a bit, went on Haunted Mansion once more then our little daughter was pooped. So pooped she fell asleep in the stroller (uncommon for her)! Turned out to be a good time to leave anyway since the big park exodus was well over after Wishes finished.

Tomorrow, I'll post the second of three installments of the trip -- an early morning Chef Mickey’s character breakfast at the Contemporary, a beautiful afternoon at Fort De Soto beach, and much needed margarita at Downtown Disney.

Great start! Disney with a 2 year old is lots of fun. We said we'd never do it, but then we did. Look forward to more of it. I'm curious though - could you PM me with the Disney Character Premier thing at the Belz mall? WHat is it?

Blessings!

It sure is fun looking at Disney through the eyes of a little one, and your little one is a cutie!

I've never been to the Character Premier at the Belz Outlet, either. How long is the drive from Disney?

And it's funny, when I was at the Poly with DIS friends, they were talking about someone on the DIS who was looking for those tiki mugs. How funny that you ended up posting about it here for me to read?

Thanks so much for posting your report! I can't wait to read more!

Keep up with the good reports.

Day 3 - June 17

We had only given ourselves three weeks to plan for this trip as we had just spontaneously decided in late May to go when we did in June so after our airfare was confirmed, we nabbed what we could for a character meal and figured Chef Mickey's would be the best for our DD who wasn't quite into princesses yet, although Crystal Palace was a close second. Well the only times Chef Mickey's had available were 7, 7:10, and 11am. Since today was planned as a beach day, I didn't want to wait around til 11 so I decided to press our luck with the 7:10 reservation. We're central time people so that'll come a hour earlier to our personal clocks!

So along comes 5:30am! Another early morning however it wasn't difficult for DD to awaken as she knew that she was about to go have breakfast with Mickey at the Contemporary! Our reservation was for 7:10am and in retrospect, I'm actually really happy that we chose (er, was given so few options from central reservations) such an early reservation as there were far fewer people there and much more attention was given to those that were there! As time went on, we could tell that as it got busier - the less time and attention seemed to be given to each individual table from the characters. Anywho, right away she got greeted by Goofy - she never did really warm up to him - she must have thought he was just too silly! Everytime he tried to approach her, she'd run away giggling! She then met Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, then Chip & Dale numerous times prior to being seated and after being seated.

The food was delicious - typical American breakfast fare with omelets, bacon, sausage, a hashbrown and cheese hotdish, fruits, pastries, waffles, pancakes, french toast, breakfast pizza, etc etc. They did take our picture just prior to being seated at a sign with a plain background. It escapes me at the moment what the sign said but it was an awful picture and they attempted to sell you a whole photo package of it, including keychains, for I believe $26 - no thanks! It would have been much more appealing if it were with all the characters at once with your family though that'd be pretty hard for them to do while the characters are busy visiting all the tables.

Eventually it was time for us to move along and open a table up for another family so we headed back to the hotel and got packed up for the beach. We headed out westbound on I-4 and eventually I-275 when we arrived in Tampa. I guess that I had never realized that Tampa had skyscrapers! Would have been a nice view from the freeway if it weren't for the haze. I thought that I-275 was a fun drive with the long Howard Franklin Bridge that crossed Old Tampa Bay into St Petersburg -- not something you get to do in Minnesota that often. We did exit for downtown St Petersburg as we saw a sign for a pier -- well we never did find that pier and wound up getting lost. A CVS store was our salvation which provided snacks, beach toys, and a MAP. Back on course, we decided to continue to stray away from the freeway and took the 687 road until it intersected with 54th street that eventually turned into Pinellas Bayway which led us right to Fort De Soto Beach (watch for signs) - to our final destination!

We drove around and eventually decided on the North Beach area. It wasn't very crowded and people were friendly. A random guy in the parking lot said "Hi" to us as we walked in -- took me by surprise! The water was nice and warm and DD had a great time in the water and on the sand, collecting shells. We tried building a sand castle but we had since forgotten how to and we didn't get passed the first tower :badpc:  We should have remembered to pack a lunch, eat before our arrival, or bring snacks -- unfortunately we left after only about a hour and a half as DD expressed interested in something to eat. It was our fault -- we had a toddler with us and should have known better :guilty: We headed back to the hotel and DD slept in the car.

After she awoke, we decided that night would be a good time for a margarita in Downtown Disney, some shopping, and perhaps Disney Quest if DD permits it! We arrived around 5pm, just prior to when the riots start for parking spots and strolled slowly from the West side to the Marketplace. DW found a churro stand and also got some water, sharing with DD. We eventually came upon the World of Disney store -- I really like the updates they've done, specifically the Boy's section with all the Pirates merchandise! Of course I filled up my treasure chest filled with pirate loot for $14 (could fill a skull for $18). They had a lithograph, pictured below, available for $10 as long as you spent $60-70 - I can't remember which one. Whatever it was, we didn't have any trouble spending it :rolleyes1:

After spending a small fortune, we left the World of Disney and got spit on by Stitch for awhile. DD was getting tired and wasn't amused by his antics! We strolled over to the Margarita stand and sipped down a couple. Once again, DD didn't understand why we wouldn't share our colorful drinks! A temper tantrum ensued by was quickly subdued with a Mickey cookie purchased a short time earlier at the World of Disney.

With DD growing weary, we decided to leave and attempt Disney Quest another night. We were a bit concerned about the stroller parking situation anyway. There was a section for strollers out front but only two were there. I feel more secure leaving my stroller in a sea of thousands of other ones than I do when only one or two are present. So should we return, we may just opt to carry her in from the parking lot. As we were leaving, we got entertained by a little boy running around with an interesting choice for a costume.

Now, I think this was staged but DW disagrees! She said there was a panicked mother running around trying to catch him but I never saw her :rotfl2: He was running around the crowded fairly quickly and stopped now and then for photos. At one point, a little girl of a similar age got her photo taken next to him. It was a pretty cute and humorous moment -- I think the best part of it was that he wasn't my child!

OK! I'm going to stop here. I had planned on writing about day 4, but I better save that for tomorrow! Next up, DD acquires her first Mickey Mouse ears at Disney/MGM's Celebrity 5 & 10, Mom and Dad take turns on Rock'n'Roller Coaster, DD finds that Mike and Sully are bigger in person than they are on the TV, and Mom gets sick at Epcot. Stay tuned!

Nice report! I will be taking my DS in August. He will be 20 months at that time, i hope he is not afraid of the characters as your DD seems to be ok with them.

For those that have asked, Deb has a page regarding Character Premier and Character Warehouse over at http://allearsnet.com/btp/cware.htm

They carry discounted/discontinued Disney merchandise. I've only been there the one time, this last trip and I still wound up spending $50. Found a couple of shirts, a keychain, some coloring books, etc. :thumbsup2:

Our DD is 28 months as of this week and did just fine. She's quite a brave little girl too -- unless it has to do with Monsters Inc characters ;) In retrospect, I can't say I'm surprised she was a little nervous to meet a couple of monsters!

We just gave her as much exposure to the classic characters as much as possible, movies/TV shows - photos - books - etc, prior to the trip and she was able to recognize them all, except maybe Chip & Dale, and run right up to most of them!

Thank-you! She must take after DW ;)

I was very nervous to take her along, not knowing what to expect. Looking back, she did very well - she continued to act like her two year old self, but I think as long as parents are able to handle their small child already, its no problem at all - at least that was the case for us!

I don't remember specifically as we didn't really go directly there. DW kind of sprung the idea on me as we already were around that area. I'd guess maybe 20 minutes? That's a pretty rough guess though!

Hah! That is funny - were they refering to my original post about looking for those tiki mugs or was it someone else?
