We are renting an intermediate or larger SUV for 2 weeks. The best deal we could find for our dates was $687, through Costco. However, I recently was playing around with the dates and realized that if I split the rental into 2 separate rentals, each being one week, we would save almost $75, but do you think it would be worth the hassle? Has anyone done this, and if so, what was the process? And would you do it again?

Would you have to get back to the airport? Or is it somewhere near?

$75 isn’t a huge savings compared to the cost of that vehicle so if it would be any sort of a pain I doubt I would do it.

I would likely just keep checking on rates as time went in to see if there’s a drop or a new coupon code etc. (assuming my booking was cancellable)

No. Not if you have to return the airport. It would probably take at least 2 hours to go to the airport and back. For us, $75 is not worth the time and trouble.

I agree that $75 is probably not worth the time it takes to go thru all that, plus the tolls, gas, etc.

I'd say keep the reservation you have, but keep checking...sometimes rates change, specials, etc. as the trip gets closer.

Rates change all the time with Costco. I would keep checking and keep your existing reservation until you get a cheaper rate. I would not do the split!
