*I read somewhere that they are adding a new hotel at WDW with construction completing in 2012. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with art and was going to be built somewhere in the Magic Kingdom area but I'm not positive. Does anyone know anything about this?

*According to the "Unofficial Guide 2010":
Keep a close eye on Soundstage one at Disney's Hollywood studios- construction of a monstrous new attraction is just about to get underway. This time around, it's a family-friendly inverted coaster with a Monsters Inc. theme.

It's under the section of the "Honey I shrunk the kids movie set adventure" so I assume the ride will be close to there. Does anyone have any comments or additional info on this?

The hotel you are referring to is the Art of Animation Resort. It is in the area that was to be the second phase of Pop Century, just across the lake.

There have been many rumors about a Monster Inc. themed roller coaster at DHS. Don't think anything has been announced about this yet.

Same as Jen:

Art of Disney Animation has been officially announced as a resort opposite Pop Century - no-where near MK.

The Monsters Inc. coaster at DHS has been in existance as a rumor for at least 4 years, well before they announced Toy Story Mania / Pixar Place. My guess on that one is there is a design at WDI, someone just needs to decide to "go" on it. At this stage, the earliest this would happen would be 2012/2013. Keep this in the "rumor" file.

Could see them doing this right before the Monsters Inc. sequel comes out, just like Toy Story Mania debuted a couple of years before Toy Story 3. Wait, when is Monsters Inc. 2 supposed to come out? Sounds like a fun idea for a ride.

November 16, 2012 is the expected release date of the sequel. Toy Story Mania was virally advertised and opened a year, year and a half ago. Rumors on the Monsters Inc. coaster about a year ago, claimed the coaster to be built and opened near third quarter of or toward the end of 2011, around the same time frame Toy Story Mania was put into action. I understand that a coaster takes slightly longer to construct, theme, and test, but WDI has always been able to do amazing things in a matter of months or a year.

Realistically, a new ride of that scope would take 18-24 months from laying the first pipe to fully operational. It MIGHT be more towards the short end if it were going into an existing building as is rumored. Some have stated that Disney could construct the ride in secret and might make a surprise opening, but because of public permit requirements, this is a true impossibility.

So...even if it comes true, it is several years away...I say best case it gets announced next summer at D23, and built by 2013.

Soundstage 1, for reference, is adjacent to the Backlot tour and Toy Story Mania, sandwiched right between them. Thus it's almost right across from Backlot Express (the counter service place) and subsequently the HISTK play area.

I really hope they do the Monsters Inc coaster. Every time I watch the movie I think 'those doors could make such a fun roller coaster!'
Especially since I assume it would be a hanging coaster and I don't recall WDW having any yet. (Please correct me if I'm wrong on that. I love WDW, but I have the worst memory, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if I forgot a ride.)

Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed. :genie:

I've always thought the same thing about the doors!!! Not to mention Monsters Inc is one of my favorite movies!

At the moment, the are no hanging roller coasters in WDW. Personally, I'm a huge fan of them also and would love if they made one, but I don't think it's the sort of thing that would appeal to families, which are Disney's main audience. Then again, RRC and TOT don't exactly fit either, but they're still huge succeses so maybe there's a chance. Fingers crossed!

I agree on the Monsters Inc part, one of my favorite movies! A suspended indoor coaster would actually be one of a kind, since most developers find the ride to be most enjoyable outdoors to experience breeze, height, and other psychological aspects. The one of a kind thing though is that such coasters can be fit in a limited amount of space and still grant a long, enjoyable experience (ie. an indoor coaster could fit in the soundstage and still provide an intense experience that isn't too tightly packed together.)

In my eyes, the Fantasyland expansion is one for families to enjoy so I would hope the folks at disney see that thrill type rides must be in ratio with family type rides to keep a diverse, yet large flow of customers wanting to visit the world.

What gets me is what have be given brand new in 2010 ? Nothing that I can remember but every other year there was a new attraction.

"Family-friendly inverted Coaster".
No such thing.
Would appeal to the thrill seekers perhaps--
One of which I am NOT, so I can't get excired about this.

I had thought the same thing about the fact that it was called "family friendly". Personally, I love thrill rides and think it's an awesome idea, but I also struggled to imagine any inverted roller coaster as somewhat family (especially kid) friendly.
