2 single strollers or 1 double stroller?

Right now it's looking like October is the earliest we're going to get to Disney. DS will be 25 months and DD will be 12 months at the time.

I'm thinking through the stroller issue and I'm wondering if anyone has ever taken two single strollers instead of one double stroller? I may be crazy for conteplating that but it seems like there could be some advantages to the 2 rather than 1.

We have been bringing two stollers to disney but we usually have family with us so when we split up its nice to have the two because you can't divide a twin stroller. However I have been really wanting to bring the twin stroller that I have b/c our next trip will be just the two of us so we don't have to worry about that. I am actually worried about it b/c my dd3 is disabled and we use her stroller as a wheel chair but I don't know how disney will handle this situation. I would recommend the twin stroller if you have it that way if your oldest wants to be out some and walking you will be able to have a free had to keep up with them. Are you considering a full size stroller or umbrella or a combination of both.

I have done both. Two strollers worked when I was married. I also used stroller connectors so one person could have a free hand but we could split up to fit through the turnstiles or get on the monorail easier or if one went back to the resort and the other stayed. A twin stroller worked better on the trips I have traveled with my two girls alone. There you have both kids and you can fit through most places but if you are going on the monorail you need to go on the handicap cars so you can fit or collapse it. If your kids are at all at the point where you would hear "She's touching me!!!" then two strollers might be the way to go.

if the double stroller is the type that the children sit one behind the other; that is the way I would suggest. double side by side is very wide and the two singles would cause both stroller pushers quite a work out.

This trip we will be bringing two single strollers. Last trip we brought the double. It was a pain! We used disney transportation so everytime we got on the bus dh had to enter from the back and had to fold it up. Most times he had to stand up holding onto the stroller because it is so big. That's why this time I'm doing two umbrella strollers. Your dc are much younger than mine. If you do two single than go with one that has an adjustable seat so they can be more comfortable when they nap.

I forgot to mention that our double stroller is a tandem. It's the Graco DuoGlider. I love its features (two trays, easy to steer, etc.) but it is cumbersome at times.

If we went with two singles, I would definitely make sure they both fully recline.

So many decisions, so little time!

We always used a double and if we split up with kids one dd would walk and the other stayed in the stroller. IIRC the first time we went they were 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 and it wasn't a problem the few times we separated. It was always just dh and I though so if one of us had the kids alone it was imperative that we had a double so one of us could manage the kids while the other used the rest room, did a ride or went for food etc.

Mandy - just fyi you can get a GAC (Guest Assistance Card) that advises WDW to treat your stroller as a wheel chair. This would allow you to bring it into lines as well as shows. Just go to guest relations and tell them what your dd's needs are and they will issue a card to help you meet her needs. For more info on the GAC I highly recommend a visit to the DisABILIITIES board here. The FAQ on the GAC is wonderful as are the folks who post there.

I had 5 strollers with my DD(4). My mom has made fun of me for years over this. We did the travel system...too heavy, too hard to fold (especially since I'm only 5'0). Then I went to a mid-size stroller...loved it used it for more than a year. Then we went to a really nice umbrella. That is the best. You still get some features like a cup holder and a basket but soooo light weight and easy to fold.

If you're counting that is only 3...I had a jogging stroller and a cheap umbrella stroller also.

Now, I have 10 month old twin boys. I splurged on a Peg. double-wide and I've been very happy. But I'm going to buy nice umbrellas for WDW in July. It will just be easy on monorail and in the park. For twins it will have the added benefit of people not asking me if they are twins every 5 minutes.

It comes down to personal preference. We have done both. IMO if it is just going to be two adults with two (or more) kids - a double is so much easier. DH and I like to take turns on the adult rides with child swap and at least with both kids in one stroller - I can walk around and window shop or go grab a snack for us more easily. Especially - if they are napping - much easier than just sitting there watching them while dh is on a ride. Yes - a little bit of a pain on busses, however, two separate strollers would be too - then if one kid is sleeping on one parent, it's up to the other parent to fold and carry both - can be just as cumbersome.

Plus umbrella strollers don't have enough under seat storage. I see people at WDW with bags hanging over the handles and I know it isn't safe - if they remove their hand for a second, it is so top-heavy the kid will fall backward. I like to bring snacks, change of clothes, drinks - so I need my Graco side by side. Lots of room!

If there are more adults in the party - then I would consider bringing two.

You will need your double unless you plan on not doing any adult rides etc. We always take two but usually have other family with us. This year we are going alone but my oldest will have just turned four so she can walk and be trusted to stay close while we wait for dh or the reverse. An almost two year old cannot do this and a 12 month old is too big to spend alot of time in a carrier. The busses will be a pain but you'll work it out.

Thank you we do get them for her my only thing is that we usually do this for a single stroller. I just don't want to be treated like crap for having a twin strolle for this. Trust me you wouldn't beleive how much of a lifesaver this is. My DD3 weighs 32 lbs right now and it is like holding 3 10lb bags of potatoes. My dh probably wouldn't have much trouble with holding but I can't hold her for long periods of time so it wouldn't be fair to him b/c its not like you can put her down and she will stand there.

We are brining 2 singles.. My 2 will be turning 2 and 3 during the trip. I will also have my 14yo ds and 8yo dd besides dh to help out if needed.

We also have the DuoGlider and that is what we always bring - BUT we always have our own car and don't have to contend with it on trasportation.

We've NEVER done Disney wth two single strollers. We like that while one parent shops or goes on a ride or uses the bathroom or whatever, the other one can keep moving with the kids in one stroller.

The DG is perfect for our kids. DS2 likes the back and it reclines well for his naps. DD4 is always up and out of the stroller, so the front works well for her.

The only thing that would make me reconsider this stroller is if I was going to be getting on and off buses where I'd be folding and carrying it. I think that might be cumbersome.

All the wheelchair accessible areas have to be at least 32 inches wide (per the Americans with Disabilities Act), although most of them are wider. So, if your double stroller is narrower than that, it should work. I don't see that they could refuse to give a GAC for your double stroller if your child can't stand and the WDW park wheelchairs won't work for her.

I would, and have taken, umbrella strollers to WDW along with stroller connectors. Best of both worlds. We always have three strollers, but we double up two if it is just DH and I and if there are extra adults, we sometimes break them into three singles. I like the flexibility.

The being stopped every 5 minutes eventually goes away.

We can't stand double strollers, so we have a Mac Triumph (love it!) and a brand new Peg Perego Pliko (love it too!). That being said, I know some people have to have double strollers, but as frequent visitors to WDW, we find that double strollers are a big problem. Many people have trouble steering, some strollers are so big they don't fit in doorways, etc. Most of the time, we see people just plain fighting with their double strollers as they are extremely cumbersome. I've been run over and bumped into a zillion times with double strollers - not sure what it is, but we notice that some people seem a little more pushy (pardon the pun-LOL!) with double strollers and in the heat of July, that's not a good thing. You could always bring two singles, and bring the connector for times that you may need to attach together. I have Osteoporosis (very young age) and am highly fracturable, so I can't push double strollers (I really don't like them anyway) so I am so glad that we have two very good quality, lightweight strolllers for our frequent trips to WDW as our new baby will be here in June, so next spring we will be able to test out our two single strollers at the same time while at WDW.
