2 resorts, One trip?

We are in the middle of planning our Disney vacation for next year. Right now we are booked for a Sat - Fri trip. Depending on flight costs, we might go down late Friday night and book at one of the All Star resorts. All we need Friday would be a place to sleep because we would just get dinner somewhere and head back to the resort.

We have never done this before! So we aren't sure if we should add the All Stars room to our current reservation or make a new reservation just for the night. And if we do this, how would our luggage get from the All Stars resort to our home resort (PORFQ)? I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of questions so thanks in advance!

if you are staying at a different resort, it can not be added to your current reservation, it will need to be a separate reservation.

The resort will transfer your luggage for you if you request it.

This is correct. If you book an extra night at a different resort, it will be a new/separate reservation. When you check out of that resort, you can either take your luggage to bell services and they will transfer it to POFQ or you can take a cab with your luggage to POFQ and check in. If your room isn't ready, bell services will store your luggage until it is.

We do this a lot. You would need a separate reservation. Sometimes, we have stayed at one of the All Stars just for the one night, if we can get a decent rate. If you don't mind moving the luggage yourself though, I recommend looking for a room at one of the Disney Springs area hotels. You can usually get a better rate and some of them are within walking distance to Disney Springs, which is convenient if you want to grab dinner and do some shopping that night.
