My fam and I are going to the world in Sept. We have ressies for our home resort SSR, but are considering making ressies for another resort during part of our stay to try something else. Would love to hear about it if anybody has done that. And if I do which other resort? Our 7 month window is quickly approaching.

We do it every trip because we refuse to pay the week end rates at DVC. We stay at the Hilton when we are not at OKW. It is a beautiful resort. The big negative about changing resorts is the check-in process which we have to go through a number of times during our trips to WDW-DVC

funny you should mention this. we just there dec 6-12 7 stayed at SSR & VWL. loved both. liked VWL just cause it was smaller. as far as changing resorts was not that bad. one thing i find odd. ssr delivered our luggage without someone in the room but VWL would not. no matter waht resort you pick you will be happy i am sure. you could look at do you want one close to a park or not. it all want you want. enjoy. our next trip is sept at VWL LOL in Sept also

has anyone ever arrived say on a Friday night, stayed cash at a hotel on site, and had them send your bags to the dvc you are staying at starting the next day? we will be using magical express and arriving late friday, and want them to send our luggage to the boardwalk starting for our Saturday stay.

We have done this on just about every trip for various reasons (save on weekend points, try another resort, etc.) I have to say that I am sooooo excited for our upcoming trip b/c we decided instead of trying to switch around & save pts., we are just biting the bullet & staying all 7 nts at BCV...I am thrilled!!! :) I don't regret switching on our other trips, but it can be a bit of a pain w/ kids b/c of packing everything up, moving, checking out, checking in, waiting for room to be ready, etc. It can be a time killer. Will we do it again in the future, absolutely! But this time, I am totally looking forward to settling into one place for the whole vacation.

As far as a recommendation should you decide to try another resort, I am a bit biased...We love the BCV!!! :cheer2: We love walking around the BW, walking to Epcot, SAB, Cape May Cafe, the list goes on and on!! Just depends on the kind of atmosphere your crowd likes. Whatever you decide, have a great time!! :wave2:

good question.......i'm going to subscribe to this thread since DW and i will be doing the same thing in june (staying at 2 different DVC resorts during 1 vaca). i'd love to hear about everyone's experiences....

We stayed at SSR and OKW the same trip last year, and in March, we will be at OKW and PORS.

DH and I did that our first trip as DVC owners. We just called MS and said "Can you change our reservation on the last night to another DVC resort [other than where we were reserved], just so we can try them all?" And I've often spent the first night of my solo trips at a different DVC resort than the rest of my trip. Last year I spent my first night at SSR-I'd never tried it before and I figured that one night was a good way to try it out. And the first time I stayed at BWV was just one night before I switched to BCV. Spending the first night at a "new" resort is a good way to try it out, IMHO.

Everyone is different but we hate packing and unpacking. So, while we love to try different resorts, we do it one trip at a time. The gap between check out and check in is a pain and there's all the stuff in the fridge. We did it once but found we pretty much lost a day in the process. Others will say it's a breeze. They either don't have four daughters, or don't have OUR four daughters. As for the dreaded weekend point drain, sometimes we switch to cash (with a member's discount if possible) for Friday and Saturday nights. Whatever you decide, enjoy.

We have moved within a resort, but not to a different resort. We will be doing this for the first time on our upcoming trip. We are doing BWV for the first 6 nights and then moving to VWL for the last 2 nights. We wanted to pay cash with the DVC discount for the last weekend nights - and there was no availabilty at BWV. So, we chose VWL. At first, we were disappointed that we had to switch...but now we are excited to try a new place! I have heard that Disney will move your luggage to your new resort for you too! :thumbsup2

Yes :)

We did this last year - got the Magical Express from MCO to CBR, stayed at CBR with money for one night then Bell Services took our luggage over to the BWV next day. No problems at all :)

We love to try different resorts - last trip we did
1 night CBR
12 nights BWV
2 nights AKL (weekend points, right? ;) )
5 nights SSR

Have you ever had to switch rooms because you switched to a cash ressie? This is a strategy I am considering for a stay next year...I'd love to hear your thoughts on this? Thanks!

Sorry to OP (slightly OT).

Last Aug DS & I stayed at the VWL Sat-Sun 8nights. Fri & Sat mbr cash discount connected to pts ressie so didnt need to move rooms.
Then Sun-Sat we moved to the BCV 6nights. Sun-Fri pts, Fri night connected w/mbr cash discount.

This Aug we're staying 5nights VWL, 3nights AKL (Th-Sun) and 6nights BCV. The first Sat and last Fri are at mbr cash discount, again connected and hopefully no switching in those resort.

We haven't done this but it's our plan for June 9th. We're coming in late on Friday, staying at Pop, using ME and will check into the Beach Club Villas for Saturday night, then we're heading to OKW and a 1 bedroom Sunday to Thursday. I understand the luggage transfer is easy, and with the 2 transfers that we'll need, we're hoping it is!

Bobbi :)

If you move from one Disney resort to another Disney resort they will transfer your luggage for you. In June we went from Pop Century to Villas at Wilderness Lodge and then to Animal Kingdom. No problems other than having to call several times to get someone to bring up the luggage.

We have done it and find althouh we enjoy 2 resorts my family hates the packing and unpacking and the time lost waiting for the new room. This trip we are staying at 1 resort.

Yes, we have done this once and will continue it. We stayed at ASMusic for 2 nights before our stay at VWL began. We transferred our own luggage since we were driving. And we carried in just enough clothes and needful things for those 2 nights. So most of our stuff remained in the van. Oh, and another time we stayed at CBR for 2 nights before transffering over to SSR

It worked out so well that we will be doing this again in upcoming trip in Mar. We already booked VWL for a 6 night stay but a few days ago decided to add on a few days to extend the trip. It is a good way to try out other resorts. We really wanted to try out Poly but even with AP discount it was still a little pricey for us, so we opted for staying in the main lodge at WL. Aint that the dumbest thing you ever heard! :lmao: But we wont have to move our luggage far! :thumbsup2

On our last few trips we have switched resorts or hotels and I am quickly getting tired of doing this.

You just get comfortable and then you have to pack everything up and repack just to unpack.

Its fun to see a another resort but I figure I have many years ahead to do just this.

If we really want to see another resort now, we just make dinner reservations there and off we go.

I have vowed unless absolutely necessary we will not be doing this again on our vacations. Our vacations are to unwind and relax.
