We booked next summer at GF in California before our cruise. We booked two rooms. Now one of the girls that was coming is not so we only have 4 people and I think 1 room will be good. I don't want to waste points. So I know when I called they went over cancelling policy since it is non DVC but I don't remember. Could someone please fill me in?

Second question is we will be going to Florida next October and would like to stay 2 weeks. The only way we can do this is to stay in studio. We were going over our options (there are 2 adults 1 13 yo 1 6yo) but it seems Old Key West is only studio with 2 queens. All others have queen plus sofa bed. Is this true by others experiences? I also noticed that for the 2 br units 2nd br with queen and sofa sleeper. So no matter what I do my kids are either both on a sofa sleeper or one on a sofa sleeper. Does anyone one else find this odd or is it just me? I don't understand why they don't have 2 queens like standard hotel rooms in the studio and especially the 2 brs since you are paying so many more points. This summer and next October will be our first time using our new DVC so please bear with me.

The extra room can be cancelled and the points returned to your account. However the points are now classified as "Reservation Points" and CANNOT be used for any of the 8 DVC resorts. Reservation Points can only be used for non-DVC destinations. You could put them toward a Disney Cruise, non-DVC hotel stay at Walt Disney World, Concierge Collection, etc.

Correct. OKW is the only resort to have Studio villas with two queen-sized beds.

I also noticed that for the 2 br units 2nd br with queen and sofa sleeper. So no matter what I do my kids are either both on a sofa sleeper or one on a sofa sleeper.

That is not true. All 2Bs at OKW have two queen beds in the second bedroom. All "dedicated" 2Bs at Saratoga Springs have two queen beds. There are a handful of rooms at the Beach Club that have two queen beds, but they are typically in high demand and are difficult for non-owners to book at 7 months. Some 2Bs at the Animal Kingdom Villas have two queen beds.

Depends on the makeup of one's party. There are many, MANY DVC members who would have zero use for a second bed and appreciate having the sofa instead. My wife and I spent a few nights in a Studio earlier this year and that second bed would have been wasted space. Having the sofa was much more valuable to us.

Same thing with a Two Bedroom villa. If you have two adult groups traveling, there's probably no need for a third bed.

OKW was the first DVC resort and they went with the two queen configuration. I suspect member complaints lead to switching the configuration at BWV to one queen plus a sofabed. Since then they've settled into a more reasonable pattern of having both configurations available--at least in the two bedroom villas.

If you do decide to book a two bedroom villa, note that the bed configuration is confirmed at the time of booking. If you reserve a 2B at the Beach Club, it must be flagged in the computers as having two queen beds at the time you book. If it isn't reserved that way, your room will have a queen + sofabed.

If you go with a studio, OKW is the only option with two queen beds. All of the units are configured that way at OKW.

When you use points for a Disney, but non-DVC reservation, those points automatically become reservation points. So if you cancel, you will only be able to use those points for a non-DVC reservation. Plus if you book with those points in 2008, you'll also pay the $95 out-of-DVC fee.

As for WDW area studios, only OKW (and the Inn Rooms at Vero Beach) have two queen beds in the room. All the other studios have one queen bed and one double sleeper sofa.

There are dedicated 2 bedroom villas that have two queen beds in the second bedroom. There are some dedicated two bedroom villas at BCV that do not have the two queens, but have one queen and one sleeper sofa. All the two bedrooms at OKW, whether dedicated or lockoff, have two queens in the second bedroom. There are no dedicated two bedroom villas at BWV. They are all lock offs.

I think the cancellation policy has to do with where your cancellation points go... I know we booked a Concierge Club hotel and they said our points would be converted to reservation points so if we cancelled they would be returned as reservation points and therefore could only be used again for certain types of bookings. Someone else will have to explain it.

As for your second question, OKW is the only studio with two queens which is why we've often stayed there for our studio stays. The others have queen plus double-sized sofa pull-out.

Many of the two-BR units are a one-bedroom plus studio for the 2nd BR. So that would be why the 2nd BR is a queen plus sofa. I'm not sure about the "dedicated 2BRs" as to the bed arrangement in the 2nd bedroom.

In the 1BR units, the pull-out in the living area is a queen-sized pull-out which is larger than the pull-out in the studios.

FWIW, my boys will not sleep together (no one sleeps if they have to). When we stay in OKW studio, we usually split them up with one kid with each parent, but they are getting too old for that now. When we stay in a studio or one-BR, we just take an air mattress and one of them sleeps on it on the floor. The peace that keeps is worth it :) One day we'll get a 2BR and they can each have a place to sleep where one is not on the floor.

Thanks my fellow Disers!!

This is my problem also. My DD does not want to sleep with DS EVER! I tell her she is going to Disney suck it up. Well she will do it if I make her and then hear about 24/7. Not worth it. We will work it out even if it means bringing a blow up mattress.

There are no dedicated 2BRs in Jambo House. The OP will have to wait for Kidani Village to open to get a dedicated 2BR with two queen beds.

You could ask your daughter which family she would like to stay with while you and the rest of the family go to WDW. And that you will surely miss her on your trip. ;)
