We are using DME for the first time. As a result, we will not have access to grocery store before our arrival. I have priced greengrocer, but what we need is too small an order (not up to their $40 minimum). I need three things: Cheerios, bananas and soy milk. Will the store on-site have these things?

The second question. When we are checking out, can we go ahead and check our luggage into DME even though we will not be leaving for several hours?

TIA for your expert advice!

Elaine

1. I know for sure that the store at OKW will have bananas and cheerios, we have gotten them both. I have no idea about the soy milk. However, you can also order groceries through DVC without a minimum. They are a bit more expensive then the others, though. We were able to add a few items that weren't on the "order form" by calling MS so that might be an option for your milk.

2. You can check your luggage early, no problem. For our vacation last October we had our bags at the ME express about 8:00 and weren't picked up until much later in the day. The CM even joked that our bags would be at the airport before us and it was nice that, "they would have to wait on us for a change!" --the bags were tagged with our airline luggage tags and actually went out on the next ME bus that came through the resort.

Have a great trip! -Jennie

Second answer depends upon which airline you are using.

I'm pretty sure the on-site store doesn't have soy milk.

Have you considered www.wegoshop.com? I've been very happy with them. I think their fee is something like $20, but they charge less for food than the on-site store does, so you save some money there. Also, you can probably think of at least a few more items you can use that would be way cheaper through wegoshop than through Disney -- water, cola, etc.

The OKW grocery order form lists soy milk ($1.99 for 11 oz), bananas ($.99 ea) & several varieties of Kellogg's breakfast cereals (no Cheerios).

Generally, the order forms track very closely with what the on-site stores offer. I believe the orders are actually filled from the on-,site store's stocks.

You can find the complete order form on the Members' Website. It's in the Vacation Planning section in the Vacation Planning Tools subsection.

You can only "check in" your luggage at your resort if your airline is a participating airline.

If not, you could leave your luggage with bell services while you go out and enjoy the day and then retrieve them when you come back to board the ME bus. Just give yourself extra time to pick that luggage back up.

Soy milk is pretty darn transportable. If it's important, I'd throw a couple packages in my checked bag (double bagged in case of breakage).

I stayed at OKW Aug '07 and snapped this photo (I don't see Cheerios ? ). Maybe there's some in the variety pack ? :

We are only going to need a few things this September as we will be in a studio so I am planning to pack one small bag with things like coffee filters, coffee, crackers, cereal etc. Then on the way back it can hold any of the items we may buy while there. I checked out the resort grocery list prices and for the few things we will need it will work out about even since we wonn't pay the delivery charge the others charge. If we order ahead at least the delivery charge for the resort list is only $5.

Great picture - but sadly, those are Kellogg's variety packs; Cheerios are made by General Mills.
