1. Does the kiddie pool have any water jets to play in?

2. Have they put refrigerators in every room yet?

Thank you for your response! Okay, now this is the 3rd question (I know I'm pushing your patience...) would you stay here? Looks like an awesome AP rate for a standard room.

We enjoy the AKL. It is one of our favorite resorts. The pool itself is a zero entry pool so little ones can even play in the big pool since it is a gradual entry. I don't recall if the kiddie pool has fountains but there is a nice playground at the resort that is great for kids.

And, yes, as I recall the refrigerators are in the rooms at the AKL. They also have coffeemakers in each room and hairdryers. The deluxe rooms are a bit bigger than the standard rooms.

There are lots of kids activities at this resort. They are perfect for kids that are about 3/4 to about 7/8. Most have to do with the animals and also the African culture/traditions. The music one is a blast for kids of all ages.... and kids of all ages tend to like the cookie decorating.

This resort is one that you will want to spend some time at. There are lots of viewing areas where you can see the animals if you don't have a savannah room. And, there are "guides" at the major viewing areas around the resort that are from Africa. They are wonderful to talk with and have tons of info to share.

We love the AKL! We have stayed there twice now, once in a savannah view room and once in a pool view room. I can answer your kiddie pool question because I was overlooking it in my pool view room: there are no jets or fountains. It is a simple circle; looked about a foot or two deep. As the other poster said, the main pool has zero entry, which means it sort of looks like a beach without waves. I saw lots of little kids playing in the water right there at the entrance area.

You should try AKL. It is both elegant and fun.

1. As mentioned above, no waterjets in the baby pool. Worth noting is that the baby pool is in a walled area separate from the main pool. This meant that I stayed with our 2 1/2 yo dd at the baby pool while dh went with the 2 older boys to the big pool. Also, the baby pool has a pebble-y bottom that eats some swim suits (2 of my dd's). This is the only negative comment I could make about AKL. It remains my favorite WDW resort!!

2. We've stayed in 3 different AKL rooms over the past year. All have had fridges. These fridges were significantly larger than the ones we had at Pop and ASMu.

We stayed at AKL in March 2004. Everyone except my DS loved it. We had two connecting rooms. Deluxe Savanah view (2 qns) and Deluxe Savanah view (1Q &1Bunk).

I loved looking out at the animals every morning and every evening. I thought about going back this year, but I wanted to try out WL instead. No kids on this trip!

My DS didn't like it because he has a few sensory problems, so the smell of the animals really bothered him. I couldn't smell a thing! He has such a sensitive little nose.

To put things in perspective, he also didn't like Mamma Melrose in MGM studios. "The place was dirty and in disrepair." I told him it was ambience, but he wasn't hearing it. My DS is 10, but he's also autistic. Anything he doesn't like is magnified. But things he loves, he REALLY loves.

Oh, and one night there were African dancers performing in front of Boma.

Thanks you DIS'ers! I changed my reservation entirely. It was FWC's because it is quiet and kind of remote for a toddler (Feb), but my DH isn't crazy about being in the middle of no-where. Now we are staying at the AKL at the end of Jan. instead! I'm a little nervous to see if our DS (2) will sleep with us in the same room. Hopefully we'll all get sleep. I am soooo excited! Thanks for your input about the AKL.

AKL is a fabulous resort! We just upgraded our first night before our DVC stay in December to AKL and my son is thrilled. Enjoy!
