2-Park or Base Ticket?

We are going to Disney World in early November. My 13-year old daughter wants to go to the Harry Potter attraction at IOA. Is it worth it to get the 2-park/1-day pass or should I just purchase the 1-park base ticket and go to IOA? Will we have time to do 2 parks in one day?

We've been to Universal Studios Hollywood so I'm not feeling super strong that we need to go to Universal. I really just want her to be able to see the Harry Potter attraction. We are a family of four so the cost difference between the 1-park base ticket and the 2-park/1-day ticket is substational.

Universal Hollywood and Universal Orlando are two TOTALLY different animals!

Were Universal Hollywood only has a few rides, Orlando is packed with them!

In early Nov, Universal tends to have really short hours. IoA normally closes at 7pm and UO closes at 6pm. However, the parks will not be very busy so you will be able to enjoy most of the rides at both parks, or at least the highlights.

I would suggest getting to the parks when the open and not a moment later! Go to Universal first and ride things like Rip Ride Rockit, Mummy (much better than the Hollywood version), MIB, etc.

Around 1 or 2 (or whenever you have finished all the rides you wanted to do, but no later than 2) I would head over to IOA. It is about a 3-5 minute walk to the other park once you get out of the first one. Once there, hang a left and work your way around marvel island riding Spiderman and Hulk, and then work your way to HP. You should get to HP hopefully no later than 4 or 5 to enjoy it for a few hours.

You might wait until you get there, do what you want to do in IOA, then see what else you have time for. If you decide you do want to go to US, just go to guest services in IOA before you leave the park and upgrade your tickets. You will only have to pay the difference in value between the ticket you have and the ticket you want to upgrade to.

In early November, crowds should be pretty low and you will have time to do a lot of things. You probably can't do everything in both parks, but you could hit the highlights of each. You can check the list of attractions for US on the website and decide if there is anything there that interests you, or you might just want to stick to IOA, be sure to do everything there at least once, and then go back and hit your favorites a second (or third) time.

I would recommend looking at the website to see if there is anything in the Studios you would like to do. If not, stick with the base ticket. Remember...Despicable Me will be open in the Studios by November 2012 so that will be a new attraction...I don't know if that will make a difference to you.

Again...check the website and see if there is anything in the Studios you would like to see. If not, stick with the base ticket.

if you will be there the first week in november, you won't be facing crowds.
you could have time to explore the studios side if that happens.

if you go on a weekend/saturday, and the weather is good, you will see more peeps in the park.

buy your tickets now. if you know you are going, get one thing off your list of "to do" items.
you can upgrade to a hopper the day you are in the park.
you only pay the difference at guest services for this transaction.

check the website and find things that you are interested in doing.
that would give you an idea if ioa would be a fully one day visit or partial day visit.
you might find things at the studio side that would complete your full day at UO if all you want to do is parry hotter at ioa.

I think I will just purchase the base ticket for now and if on the day that we go we decide that we also want to go over to the Studios we will upgrade. Thanks for all your help. I didn't even know that was option to upgrade the day of for just the cost difference betweent he base ticket and the 2-park ticket. Thanks everyone!

sounds like a good plan

you need to do the upgrade while still in the park.

Macraven makes a VERY good point!

DO NOT leave the park until you upgrade your ticket. If you go to IOA and want to upgrade so you can visit the other park, you will NOT be able to once you walk outside of the main gate.

So you can't upgrade you ticket at the ticket booth right outside the gate?

you can upgrade your one day ticket at the outside guest services if you have NOT used it yet.
if you know before you even enter the park you will do both parks or another day, you can do the upgrade w/o issues at the guest service that is outside the gates to the park.

if you leave the park and have used your one day ticket, it is not upgradable.

if you have entered the park with your one day ticket and want to upgrade it,
you have to do the transaction at the guest services INSIDE the park before you go thru the exit turnstile.

Two more questions...

1)If I go into the park and then leave, can I still go back in the park and upgrade the ticket?

2)Can you upgrade more than once? Lets say I decide to add a day (or more) and then another day decide to add park to park.

i'll attempt this again.

1. if you have a one day ticket and leave the park, the answer is NO.

if you have a multiple day pass (3 day base pass), and use one day of that 3 day pass, the answer is yes.

(If you have a 2 day base pass and want to upgrade to a park hopper, after the first day is used, the answer is YES.
but, it is a waste of money as the hopper would have been applied to both days of that 2 day base ticket.)

2. 4 days is the maximum you can have on the multiple day passes.

If you have a 2 day pass and want to add another day, you can do so.
if on the third day you decide you want to add another day, yes you can do so but it must be done inside the park at guest services.

anything needed over 4 days, upgrade to the AP.

:flower3:I know I am probably making this more difficult than it is, but...

So does that mean you cannot leave the park (say for lunch) and then go back in or you can leave and go back in but can no longer upgrade your ticket?:confused3

i hear you and can answer this one.

when you have a one day ticket and want to go to city walk for lunch, get your hand stamped when you exit.

i saw some guests do that in october last year when i was at ioa.

there will be TM's at the exit turnstiles.

tell them you will be coming back to the park that day.
usually, they stamp the back of your hand then.

(if UO has discontinued that 'handstamp' thing, the TM will tell you to keep your park ticket for your return to the park for later that day.)

you can return to the park that same day.

when you enter thru the turnstiles to the park, after your lunch, the TM will check your ticket in the machine and look for your hand stamp.

you can come and go in and out of the park on that same one day ticket.
no problem.

if you want to upgrade your unversal day ticket, you can do so before you leave the park for the last time at the inside guest service.

vleeth, feel free to ask any questions you have.

you are new to universal and many of us here would like to help you with your questions. :thumbsup2

Here is a more complex upgrade question. I am going to be booking a partner hotel vacation package for the sole purpose of getting early entry into WWoHP. If I only do a one day ticket, and then decide to add a second day while I am at the park, will the second add-on day also have the early-entry feature?

Thanks,
Michael

If you were checking into the RPR the morning of 6/6 and checking out 6/8 (2nights), what type of ticket would you get? 1 day park-to-park? 2 day park-to-park? 2 day base? Or 1 day base? I have no idea what makes sense.

Someone else reported back that it did.
