As long as the Wonder does not get this ugly duck tail she remains one of the best looking ships! I have never seen such a big one added to the stern of any ship.

I think the Magic looks more Sleek with the Ducktail. The Reimagine of the Magic makes me love her more.

I remember the first time I saw the Magic's ducktail.. I was like, "What is THAT?!"

The more I've looked at it... I realize that it does look sleek.. But it still hasn't grown on me.

I get that disney is spending a bunch of money at wdw but to say that will stop them from spending money on dcl is crazy. They will continue to expand where its profitable. You have RC putting new ships exclusively in ny/nj so there has to be a market here

I'm curious about the Wonder as well. Last I heard, she's due for a major overhaul in 2016. The question is, will she still be able to traverse the Panama Canal after she's renovated? One of the DCL staff told me that ship length isn't a problem, it's the width. I'm wondering if the addition of the Aquadunk on the Magic is what made it too wide.

The Aquadunk only affects the width of the higher decks and they are well clear of the lock wall the lowest part of the Magic and Wonder to be below the 4th deck well it's in the canal. The current locks can't handle the extra length of the ducktail.

Competition has changed and its about to change again. Like Universal there are more players going after a limited number of cruisers and dollars.

Who's else is coming to PC? PCPA is not building new terminal for it's good healt. RCL has two mega ships coming. Were do they go?

I am going on Cruise with Princess out of Houston in Dec. Have a bunch of friends who highly recommend. GC in school DD is teaching.

I think Disney has to expand marketing approrch. That will include putting casino on some ships and raise adult entertainment levels.

One thing that has been said, in todays Disney Corp World it better make money and pay dividends or you are gone. PS no more golden parchutes either.

PC is building the second of its planned terminals. The new terminal and the 1 they finished a year or so ago, are both capable of handling the Oasis class ships. PC wants to be the number 1 cruise port. They are already number 2, behind Miami. Id hazard a guess and say they are talking to RCL about the 3rd Oasis class ship. I remember seeing something about the same time it was announced that the port was in talks for bringing a new ship in, beside getting NCL to come back again.

With the cost of a new ship in the area of a billion (yes, billion with a b) dollars, Disney isn't likely to expand the fleet anytime soon with Avitar land just breaking ground and a just promised expansion of the Star Wars franchise in the parks. While I would love to see new ships, Disney is filling their ships (this is the 1st time in years that all of the September cruises haven't had FL resident rates) so they don't have to discount them to fill the ships. There have been some slips in new destinations (Galveston and NY were a bad financial move as many cruises were discounted) becoming more permanent home ports so DCL is concentrating where they make money - Florida, & Alaska with some side trips. That being said, I do agree that if they sent a ship to Japan, they would fill it year round and wouldn't be completely surprised if that was a "test" destination in the near future for the Wonder.

The cost of the Dream class was 1.2 billion. Each. From Bob Igers lips to my ears during the Fantasy's Inaugural. The other thing is that they don't spend 1.2 billion at once. It comes in increments. A few million or so here to start planning, a given amount as a down payment and the rest when the ship is delivered. So its generally spread out over 3-5 years. I think youd see 3 ships year round in PC like the other lines are doing before we see a ship permanently overseas.

Not much is stopping them other then recouping some of the build costs of the Dream class. Id say they are both pretty close to having paid for themselves.

Theoretically, the Magic will still fit in the locks. Short version is that DCL (or any other line) would need a special 1 time authorization to transit the locks. The major issues are, its not a given to get that permission and its a 1 time thing. The usable length of the locks is 1000'. The Magic with her new tail is 984. The largest ship to date to transverse the locks is 973'. The widest was the 4 Iowa class battleships from WWII, at 106'
