2 Magic Bands Active at same time:

Not sure if this is proper place to put this - but here goes. I went to WDE in August 2015 with one daughter and family - and have a pink magic band. I'm going in June 2016 with my other daughter and family and ordered a red magic band. According to My Disney Experience - my pink band is still 'active'. Although I've personalized another red band, haven't actually received it yet.

If I've done my homework correctly - I'll be able to keep BOTH pink and red bands active for this upcoming trip? So can 'color coordinate" each day? Thanks.

So old bands, as long as they are in the same MDE account, will open room and be used for fastpasses.

The battery eventually dies and you won't get on ride experiences that require the long range Rfid inside the band however fastpass, turnstile tickets and payments by band will work as they are powered by the readers you put them up to

Yes. I've gone on trips with old bands and never took the ones they shipped me out of the box. I always carry backups in case of glitches.

The battery is needed for the active RFID so ride photos where there is no touch point and to initiate interactives which Disney is just now starting. I think more will come with that RFID chip but right now they "think" 2-3 years.

No battery is needed for the passive RFID because you are touching it Mickey to Mickey; Hotel Gates, Room Key, Dining Plan, Tickets, FastPasses, Charging to room ..... this has no lifespan at this point.

The battery lasts 2 to 3 years. The only thing that needs the battery is the long range rfid chip. basically, if the battery dies, you won't get ride photos automatically added to your photopass account. Everything else will work.

Yes, just make sure you check them on the door before you leave. One of my bands didn't work on my last trip, but I wasn't going to waste time to get it fixed. I just threw it in the suitcase for the rest of the trip.
