2 Happy Diners+1 fussy kid's quest for Grilled Cheese do DDP Updated-FIGARO FRIES!!

Great reviews! Can't wait for the rest. Soooo you're from NY and live in NC now? Hmmmmm let me guess- Cary? LOL. We're from NY (Brookyn, Queens and LI) and just moved to Raleigh. But it seems like all the NYers we meet live in Cary. Sooo, where is it?

Susan

We are in NC too! We aren't New Yorkers but we do live in Cary. There are a few on our street--we don't let any of them talk to the children, of course.:rotfl: I'm kidding. They're all very nice people.

I also have a picky eater (age 5, plus another kid on the trip is as well) and am planning on smuggling lots of fruit into restaurants. Also, anyone know where I can get a really plain turkey sandwich in the Magic Kingdom? I'm starting to get a bit nervous . . . .

Great dining report. Can't wait for the rest.

Poor Eeyore though- not so lucky- No Grilled Cheese here- so he settled hesitantly for the Mac & Cheese ( side note - he only likes Kraft Mac & Cheese in character shapes only- what a gourmet!).....will he like it.... or will this be the start of the Meal Exchange program that we became active members of on this trip!

Maybe we should take your Eeyore and show him how to be a "gourmand" like us!

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

We can even get him Mac & Cheese in Disney shapes at Victoria & Albert's!

:thumbsup2 Great review. I am from NY and grew up in brooklyn. So I am with you on Pizza. I still dont like the pizza in Long Island. You have a beautiful family.

I'm with you on the pizza thing too (I feel the same way about Pizza Planet too!! )

It's more like school cafeteria pizza than real NY pizza place pizza.

We're former NY'ers too- but we're in So. FL now- only 2 hours from WDW.

Loving the reviews so far! I do like pictures with the reviews, but I'm sure my husband would give me a hard time about taking pictures, too. Luckily, he's not going with us this August when I'm there for free dining. The last time we were there was in August 2005. We were on the DDP, but we were a week too early for the free dining. One of the most memorable desserts from that trip was the frozen lemonade from Flame Tree. SO refreshing! And my usual approach to dessert is: if it's not chocolate, I don't want to waste my time (or the calories.)

I am enjoying your reviews. You are doing a great job. I don't think I would be able to keep everything straight by the time I got around to typing it up.

I look forward to reading more.

You guessed it- we are in the Containment Area for Relocated Yankees
and we LOVE it! Found good pizza too- Salvios off Cary Pkwy and Georginas in Morrisville is pretty good too!

hey who you callin nice!! hee hee-

I think you can find a turkey sandwhich in MK possibly at Cosmic Rays- you may have to make special requests to have them alter it so that it is plain ( dis is very good at accomodating for fussy eaters- trust me I know!) or maybe the plaza restaurant which is TS- I dont know too much about turkey sandwhiches as Eeyore doesnt do cold cuts- but get this- his fav place to eat ( when not in dis) is SUBWAY- only cheese- yeah they think hes weird there too!

hey then we may lose DH- cause thats a little too gourmet for him too! no green stuff for either boys- how annoying! meanwhile I will eat anything - I am definitely an adventurous eater ( well maybe not anything.....not big on animal meat other than the norm- beef and chicken)

Great review so far!!!

thanks- lots more too come.....

Bayside queens girl here- and DH born and bred in Brooklyn- L&B/Spumoni Gardens all the way!

ahhh dont you totally miss NY pizza!

I feel the same way about desserts- so not into fruit in desserts- but these lemon ades were perfect for that day...ahhhh I can still taste em....

thanks very much- hope to have wcc up tonight- I promise- just need to get the household settled- sometimes puppies are worse than kids! lol!

Im enjoying your reviews, Eeyore is alot like my son was at 8 and still is at 23 :rotfl:

Im enjoying your reviews, Eeyore is alot like my son was at 8 and still is at 23 :rotfl:

so you mean there is no hope!

I am so used to it that its just the way it is- he has been this way literally since he started eating baby food- would literally gag with any vegetables in Jar mind you- and then when he was eating solids- I would put a tiny piece of chicken on a fork followed by an 1/8 of an inch of a steamed string bean followed by Mac & Cheese or pasta - all on the same fork- all would go in his mouth then his tongue would swirl around on the inside of his mouth- and out would come just the string bean- insane I tell ya! and this was at about a year old- hasn't changed since and believe me I have tried- but he just has these uber super taste buds and just cant eat certain foods no matter what.... meanwhile my BIL who mind you has no kids yet constantly criticizes my sons poor eating habits....oh man I cannot wait til he has kids....mwahahaha!

thanks for the heads up- so I guess his wife will have to deal with this too! haha

where did I leave off-

Eeyores face after reviewing the menu:

IMG_1628.jpg

ok-so I was reallllly looking forward to this dinner by the way.

and the best news is that yes- the skillet is available on the DDP-

forgot to mention that Eeyores eyes and spirit lit up when he found out about the endless Milkshakes- out of all the wacky flavors they offered including cotton candy- he settled for good old faithful Vanilla

DH got a Chocolate Milkshake- he can never resist a milkshake!

Me- I caved and got one too- Vanilla of course! and it was really good- thick and creamy and not sickingly sweet- but filling- so be warned if you plan to feast- see maybe this is WCC's plan- fill em up with endless Milkshakes and maybe they wont refill their skillet!

then they brought out the corn bread- also thumbs up and I love the whipped butter cause just in case there weren't enough calories and fat in the milkshake and corn bread alone!

so far dinner off to a great start- no funny antics at our table- although i watched with envy as the other tables donned their homemade napkin hats stuffed with straws! looked like they were all having a great time.

now on to the best part- and I have PICS!!!! ( meanwhile is it just me- or do they serve you super super fast in the TS restaurants- I guess they need to get you in, fill you up and get you on your merry way to make room for next ADR's- oh well no complaining here)

They brought out Eeyores Mac & Cheese too which came with 2 neat sides- watermelon and Worms in Dirt.

ahhh the Skillet- looked just as good in person as on the pics I had seen and oogled over on the Dis boards.

IMG_1629.jpg

Dh needs to have patience and please let me photograph the food before we touch! lol

ok- reviews- chicken was just good- not over the top- but who needs chicken when theres shrimp and ribs!

ribs were excellent- really loved em- we ordered refills on these- as well as the shrimp- which were also excellent-wow I am getting hungry!

BBQ sauce was super yummy- dipped everything in it- they give you seperate pots of it so you dont have to worry about sharing....

Mashed potatoes were great- and I loved the cole slaw- DH liked the potates too but wasnt a fan of the cole-slaw- oh well can't win em all.

Beans were ok- they made for a good side dish- I didnt eat to many of them as I was thoroughly enjoying my ribs-

and then I was snapped out of my food heaven when I heard the very familiar phrase "Mom, this mac & cheese is no good" ugh I new as soon as it came out that he wasn't going to like it- but I didn't say anything ...oh well- Initiation into the Meal Exchange program- only in Disney- I assure you- cause there was no way I was leaving there with a hungry child- so Moe was super kind and suggested the Cheeseburger- and brought one out in literally 2 minutes- insane!

Back to Skillet- only thing I didnt try was the corn- I was sooooo stuffed and always save veggies for last...heehee- but DH ate and said it was good- had a nice flavor...

and then guess what- yup- cheeseburger was gross- according to Eeyore- so then we all do the stupid taste test- "tastes fine to me" says DH, "this is terrific" says me...this kid-I tell ya... so I give up- and he ends up just eating his watermelon and Worms in Dirt- so healthy!

we were pretty stuffed and asked moe if we could just hang out for a few before they bombarded us with the mandatory dessert- I cant beleive they make you order desserts with every meal on the DDP- ( just joking for all the DDP newbies)

We people/table watched all the ketchup making their way from table to table and the big blue crayon! this was a lot of fun- and then they called all the kids up to have hobby horse race- Eeyore of course did not partake- and then it was a cute little girls b'day- so they called all men- under 8 years old to her table- to sing Happy b'day to her- then the waitress says - "now all the boys need to give her a B'day Kiss!" the looks on the boys faces were priceless- and the little girl almost died!

hmmmm. dessert time- my favorite part of the meal- I really was full- but like I said- they wont let you leave unless you order dessert- or at least thats how I interpreted the DDP rules-

I ordered the Vanilla Ice cream- cinnamon caramel thingy- cant remember the actual name- but guess what- I have a pic to show ya:

IMG_1630.jpg

it was very nice- the ice-cream and cinnamon caramel make a nice complement to each other- I could only eat a few bites- enough to get the full effect of the flavor- and the triangle cookie thingys were great too- I would recommend this dessert- if you are not in the mood for choclatey stuff ( which is rare for me)

Dh got the bourbon/whiskey ( cant remember which one) Chocolate Cake and he could barely eat it- I didn't taste- but he said it was good and wished he had room for more.

No dessert for Eeyore- I cut him off after the worms in dirt- god knows he did not need one more ounce of junk in that belly of his!

so my wcc dinner was sadly coming to an end- but not until the whole restaurant had to get up and do the Hokey Pokey- and guess what- Eeyore actually got up and got into it- and had fun! look pics:
IMG_1632.jpg

this was the part when you had to "put your backside in, you put your backside in ,then you do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around....." you know the rest- and you will probably be singing that for the rest of the night! ( btw- the pic below was not my table- i dont know who they were and I apologize for posting pics which I am sure were not of their most flattering side!)
IMG_1634.jpg

so there you have it- I would highly recommend this restaurant and definitely make ADR's - and when you check in make sure you ask for the main dining area- cause thats where all the fun is- and hopefully you will get one of the fun waiters/waitresses- even though ours was not into the antics- he was still a great server and super attentive. I am definitely going back on the next trip!

coming tomorrow-re-arranged ADR's- Orig booked Kona for 7:45 am breakfast and realized could do Captain Cooks instead- cause all we cared about was... you guessed it- TONGA TOAST! cant wait (first time)also popcorn, Pinocchio Haus/house? can you guess why- yup- figaro fries- and this would be my first ever encounter with them too ( wow lots of firsts on this trip-thanks dis boards)..also had ADR's that we bailed on/canceled for Tony's ( tooo many bad reviews lately- but strangely enough had eaten there a ton of times before and always had good meal- but heres the deal- at this point I had HDDR booked and it took 2 TS's so not wanting to pay out of pocket I figured Tony's was the one I was least looking forward to)so we did Cosmic Rays for Dinner instead...
till manana- night!

We're from NY too but we relocated to Holly Springs. Too many people from my high school in Cary!!!

I am so enjoying your reviews so far! Thanks for the great Tutto Italia review. We have ADRs there in just 35 days:banana: !!!! Now I'm looking forward to it even more!

Keep up the great work!

Loved reading your imput on Whispering Canyon. We're going to WDW in 23 days (we will be celebrating my DD's 12th b-day) We have ADR at WCC our second night there. Both my DD and DS (who is probably even pickier than your son) are excited. I reallyd don't know what I'll feed him all week.

ahhhh- minor detour from reviews- but just wanted to say yipeeeee just booked Beach Club room only for May 1st-10th 2009- woohooo! This is my absolute Dream Resort-Dream Vacay- told DH that even thought we did not get a dream on this past trip- that booking BC for 2009 was my dream! thanks DH mwah!

Meanwhile-hoping to get more reviews up tonight- celebrating my Mom's B'day- taking her out to dinner- hmmm where should we go.... Biergarten, Le Cellier or WCC.. and then I woke up! if only it was that easy!

be back later!

I am curious - Does anyone know if it is possible to just have coffee (and just pay for coffee) at this Donald Safari character breakfast?
I would be going along with the group.

Thanks,
sp

Hey sunnyp - To answer your question: I would say that you would NOT be able to just have coffee as it's a buffet and they will not have someone watching you to be sure you don't eat any food!
