2 excursions in Skagway

Hi everyone I have faith that our August 2021 Alaska cruise WILL happen. I needed a pick me up today and am looking into excursions and see several Alaskan private tour groups are booking for 2021. Would it be possible to do a hike in the am on our Skagway day pickup at the dock 7:30am and then drop off at 12:15 followed by a 2pm meet at the dock for a dog sledding musher tour? The dog sled tour is 3 hours so we would be back well before all aboard. We are an active family and our girls would just have turned 9 for reference. I’m not in a hurry to book anything so a suggestions welcome. Also if you are doing private bookings when should I book them? Thanks!

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to do both. The area is pretty compact there. You may or may not have time to go back to the ship for lunch if that's your plan but there are places to eat in town if you're short on time. We did the dog sledding out of Skagway and it books up pretty quickly so I'd check with them about 6 months before your cruise. Your girls will love it! You'll need to watch what's happening with cruises because MSC which has starting cruising in Europe will only let you off the ship if you have an excursion booked through the cruise line (creating bubbles to keep everyone safe). I think other cruise lines will likely follow suit for a while....but who really knows? We also have a cruise at the end of August and I really hope this is all well behind us by then!

In Juneau several years ago we did a flight seeing excursion and a sled dog on the same day (both through DCL).

Flying over the glaciers was AMAZING, and we are NOT "dog people" but we had an amazing time with the dogs!!!

Since the timing works out - Go For It!!

We did 2 excursions, both private. Rented a green jeep and drove ourselves to a musher's camp, then back on ship for lunch, then heli glacier walking tour. We had plenty of time for everything.

The other idea I’ve been floating around in Juneau renting a car doing nugget falls/ visitor center at Mendenhall and then driving ourselves to a mushers camp. Good to know you liked it there!
