Hmm...has anyone ever booked 1-way tickets on different airlines just to get the price/schedule you want? After playing around a bit, I found that booking USAir on an evening Friday flight and returning on JetBlue on an evening Saturday flight the following week worked very well in price for us. The only drawback that I could foresee is loss of luggage on the way down, the airline considering that it is my final destination and no compensation made if needed.

Comments anyone?

I've done it several times and had no problems whatsoever.

I think it's becoming more common as many of the discount carriers offer one way flights as a norm, unlike the major (AA, United etc) tend to still market a RT as a better deal. SW, AT and JetBlue all offer the same price per flight whether you book One way or RT. The only other thing thatn luggage I can think of is security, some say that one way travelers get flagged for security checks over RT fares...but I don't know, I have also heard that if you are enrolled in a carriers FF program you are less likely to get flagged at security :confused3 I would not hesitate to book w/2 different airlines especially if it involves the convenienceof times/non stops/fare etc thta you are after.
Not to mention, if the penalty fees are cheaper on one airline over another, might come in handy.

We have done this for years, and have taken advantage of the best fares. But we must use a car service to the airports and home. We once shlepped bags via taxi between JFK and our car parked at LGA to much consternation, and will not do that again.

Our next trip is Delta oneway and AA oneway back!
