Hi! Just had both dd's at the dr today, and as suspected, they both have ear infections and we are heading to disney on saturday. How do we keep the meds cool while traveling by plane? Also, we are staying at a value and do not have a frig. How should we handle this? TIA.

I need the same question answered, leaving sat for asmu, niece has bladder infection, ouch. and don't know how to keep it cool and a fridge. thanks:sick:

but when I've had to travel with antibiotics for my son (which btw he back then had an ear infection)........I travel with a small cooler filled w/ice. You can use this by refilling it at the resort to keep it cold.

I would try getting one of the collapsable ones....as small as you can to bring on the plane.

GOOD LUCK and I hope your children feel better!

Thanks!! I'll have to do a quick run in to Walmart, to look for a small cooler. Do you think ice would cause it to freeze though, too cold? Maybe just a few small pieces of ice?

I think for ice, one of those things you put in the freezer would work good, I think the pack would last longer. (maybe?)

I would call the doctor back and ask if they could get a chewable pill instead of the liquid. You might have to pay OOP but it would be so much easier. May be too late now but we have had situations where we choose to do a antibiotic shot (one time in office) rather than the liquid meds. I would also ask the dr about decongestions for the plane as well. Be sure to push the liquids and travel at their pace in the park though both should be much better by saturday.

Prayers both get better quick.

The All Stars will give you a free fridge for medicines. At least they have in the past!

Babies R Us sells a little bag with a cold pack just for meds.

Assuming it has not changed, you can reaquest a fridge at nio charge for medications. At least that was true 3 years ago! I think we just needed to show them the med bottle, showing that it needed to be refrigerated, if I remember correctly.

many times I was able to get the dry medicine and add the water myself. Its been many years since we have been on the liquid medicine, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I think the bigger problem is going to keep those little ears from popping badly while in the air. My ears always pop as I've had a liftetime of sinus/allergies, but never did they pop so badly as when I had an ear infection last year. Ouch!

Good luck with keeping those little pumpkins healthy and feeling ok while on the plane, Tiger :)

(Putting on my pharmacist's coat for a moment)

Do you mind if I ask what medication they are taking? There are only a few meds I can recall that require refrigeration to preserve the integrity of the med. Most of the typical antibiotics recommend refrigeration strictly because it helps with the taste (a true but little know fact). As long as the meds don't get above appx. 85 degrees and are used within 7 to 10 days, you would be fine transporting and storing them at room temp. I'd be happy to look up some specific info for you if you'd like, just LMK which med(s).

(taking coat off now)

Hope you have a great trip! We are heading that way this weekend as well.

I would call and ask the pharmacy. I have had some antibiotics for my son that didn't need to be in the fridge.

Many antibiotics don't need to be refrigerated. I accidentally left out DS' amoxicillin once and went to buy a new bottle out of pocket, but the pharmacist looked it up for me and it was fine out of the fridge. My 1yo DS had chronic ear infections (has ear tubes now) but all his antibiotics did not need to be refrigerated -- off the top of my head, he's had omnicef, amoxicillin, neither have to be refrigerated.
