Just our luck. The kids and I woke up with a cold.

We really need to be well before we go. We're looking at a 12 hour drive.

So does anyone have a great remedy for getting rid of a cold in just two days? Or should we all just go see a doctor in the morning? :headache:

If they are over 12 years old, they can try Cold FX, sold at some stores/pharmacies, etc., but I am not sure they sell it in the USA...

If under 12 years old, a combination of zinc, ecchinacea, and vitamin C can help - sunkist makes something that happens to have those 3 ingredients in it... little chewable tabs. We took those - my 5 year old took 3 a day, and our 11 year old took 4-5 in a day, when they were sick prior to our trip. It seemed to help a bit. I would also try Vicks vaporub on their chest as a night time decongestant - it also helps with coughs.

GOOD LUCK!!!! I really feel for you, as no one wants to be sick!

If any of your kids are prone to ear infections though, I would take them in to see the Dr., just to be safe, as they can look at their ears to see if an infection is brewing.

Please keep us posted!

I would say GO TO THE DOCTOR ASAP!! That's just my opinion. Hope you and your family gets better soon!!!:flower3:

My DD got a runny nose 2 days ago too! We are leaving on Friday. It totally has me freaked out! I have been giving her this childrens airborn type drink, vitamins and Rhino pops (lollipops with zinc, pectin and vitamin C) Hopefully the runny nose doesn't progress into a full blown cold or ear infection!!

I suggest juice, vitamins & rest. Hope you all feel better.

If its a cold a doctor will not be able to help. Don't waste a trip and/or risk picking up something even worse at the doctor's office. The worst of the cold should be gone in a couple days, so I think you'll be ok. Just stick with orange juice and chicken soup for a couple days! Feel better!

I was starting to get something before our WDW trip and I started with Emergen C the powder packs with high dose vitamins and Vit. C. Nose sprays as they keep the mucus from sitting in your sinuses causeing more havok, I also used a netti pot for this. Hot tea and other liquids- broth, water, OJ all are good. Try to get some good sleep before you go and relax. Sometimes your nerves and thinking about being sick can make you sicker.

YOU WILL FEEL BETTER!!!!!!!:grouphug:

I agree with the Cold FX. It works wonders whenever I've taken it. When I went to Disneyland last year, my throat felt a little funny one evening and when I took it, I felt better. I think it stopped the on coming cold in its tracks.
Hope your family feels better soon.

Just rest and take in lots of fluids. Dr's can't help with colds, they will tell you what I just did. :) Zicam might help but it might not. It takes nasty though so be prepared for that! LOL Hope you all feel better!!!

Emergen C rocks! It definitely helped me knock out an incipient cold last year.

Georgia has a cough and now hubby is getting it! Ugh... I have been poppin my Vit C in hopes that I dont get it. Because i am a mess when I get a cold. I dont want to leave the house. SO I *HOPE* I will be safe from germs!

I would call my kids pedatritian and ask him or her their advice. I would let them know that we are going on a trip and ask if there is anything we can do.
Some doctors will give you antibiotics to take with you just incase the cold turns into something worse.

I have heard and even tried it and it helped alot, put vicks vapor rube on the bottoms of your feet and put on socks, do this when you are going to bed. Its suppose to help pull out all the gunk.

Also it won't hurt to get extra vitamin c and lots of liquids, chicken soup and rest.

Good luck and feel better.

Ugh, we were just in that boat with our DD of 3. She came down with the Flu and Croup a week before our trip. Fortunately, she started to wrap it up, just in time for our drive (last week). Though, she still has a little bit of a risidual cough.

Still being fairly new to fatherhood, it still breaks my heart to see her sick.

Good luck and get lots of rest and drink plenty of fluids!

I use Airborn! Just wanted to wish you luck on your colds! :goodvibes Healthy :goodvibes vibes coming your way!

OK, here is my weird "cold" story:lmao: ...We went to DL in sept for 10 nights, there was my family of 5 and our friends family of 5...By day 4 our friends little boy gets a cold...the next day my 14 year old son gets the cold...he's not feeling too well so at dinner at dennys he orders a CARAFE of orange juice to himself...we bugged him quite a bit about it but he said he was getting rid of his cold...HAHAHA...well, next moring joke is on us as he is completely better-no sniffles at all...by the next day 5 more of our group have the cold....3 from the other family had to take meds for the last 3 days of the trip...they were sick, sick, sick and my oldest daughter had that stupid cold for 3 weeks after we got home....The carafe of orange juice is still talked about a lot here, especially since he even took a pic of it at dinner that night....so all i can say is LOTS of ORANGE JUICE!!!:thumbsup2

This exact thing happened to my family at Christmas last year.

Get to the doctor ASAP, do not risk this trip for over the counter stuff.

I got shot up with anti biotics, slept all day and then off to Disney we went.. Only side affect, I wasnt hungry.. Boo hoo, I lost weight lol.

This was us in October. Well it started with me, I woke up with a bad cold 2 days before leaving too. I was miserable on the car ride down (we had a 10 hour drive). That night was pretty bad too, not much sleep! But after that I did well with taking Sudafed and really enjoyed the trip.

Unfortunately my son came down with the cold mid way in the trip. But he always does better then me with colds and still had a great time.

Honestly once you've got the cold nothing really makes it go away but time. I would never go to a doctor for a cold, they can't help (antibiotics don't work for viruses). You probably just run the risk of being exposed to something worse too! Get plenty of rest the next few days and hopefully you'll be over the worst when you leave! Good luck! :)

Please make sure you use saline drops or children's nose drops to keep it clear. Even if it is a runny nose. You want to keep your sinuses as clear as possible to prevent an infection to come on during your trip. Take a long, steamy hot shower before you leave to clear every thing out before your trip.
