Hi -

My Wife and I have not been do Disneyland in probably 15 years or so, we both were very young and do not remember much about it so I am trying to get as much info before hand so we can do as much as possible. I checked online and maps and a few other online guides and made a schedule and was wondering if it is a doable list. We are going on a Wednesday and Thursday in a couple of weeks, went for weekday so the crowds would be less but forgot about spring break and it is just the two of us. I am only including the main attractions that we both are looking forward to. Its going to be a 2 day trip with a park hopper pass.

Thanks for any input, and if I missed any must see attractions for a couple.

Personally, we always grab a FP at Indy early in the morning, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad if possible, and then go ride Pirate's and Haunted Mansion right away. I've found it's easier to go back and use FP's at the rides that have them then stand in line longer later in the day for the other rides.

If possible, one of you might be able to head over to Tower, etc., and get the FP's ahead of time each day so that when you're ready, you don't have to wait long. :)

I find it's easier to have a list of rides we want to go on, and just have a basic time scheduled for lunch. A timeline at DL can be a difficult thing.

Doable. I recommend you create a list of attractions you want to see throughout the day, versus time blocks. Being flexible allows you to better utilize Fastpass and lines that are shorter during certain times of the day. It is good you are getting there early, as you can get a lot done before noon, before the park gets busier.

You have listed a lot of rides, but also consider some of the smaller entertainment happenings around the park. Also if the Fun Wheel has a largeline, skip it unless you really want to ride it. It loads slowly and the ride is like two revolutions, one being a loading one. You also might consider saving the castle walk-through till the late evening, it will be less busy and perhaps little more enchanting.

Any interesting if having you picture taken with any of the characters? Might make a nice free souvenir.

OP, I am a planner like you and create a list of rides in general order that I want to hit before lunch and after lunch. I applaud your efforts to be organized and have a plan! With that said, I have several comments.

First, as a PP noted, I don't see anything noted about collecting fastpasses. I include that in my plans so I don't forget, and I make a plan about the order in which I want to collect them. Look for Hydroguy's stickies at the top of this board for more info on FP's and the order in which to collect them.

Second, you list seeing Fantasyland from 12-2 on your Wednesday. Fantasyland is best visited first thing in the morning, either for MM, which you don't have (at least I'm assuming you don't because you have 2 day hoppers ... you're not staying onsite are you?) or first thing on a non-MM day.

I also see that you plan shopping from 8-10 am on your Thursday. This is not the best way to use that precious early morning time when lines for rides are low.

Accordingly, this are some changes I would make:

Your first day is Wednesday, a non MM day.
Get a FP for Space and then head to Fantasyland.
Work through FL rides.
Get a FP for IJ and work your way through Adventure and Frontierland.
Continue to collect FP's as soon as your FP window opens.
By lunch time you should have 4-5, at least collected for later in the day.
Consider hopping to DCA midday and collect some FP's there to use later in the evening.

For Thursday, a MM day, start off in Adventureland and IJ, as your plans for Wed state.
Hop to DCA and begin collecting FP's.
Without FP's, your 11:30 -2:00 time frame will not fit all of the rides you want in it. Most of those are headliners with 45-60 min standby waits. If you use FP, your waits are cut down significantly, but you'll have to spread out your visits to them according to your FP return times.

Those are the major changes I would make to your itinerary. You didn't give your exact dates, but the next few weeks will be busy. Look over all of Hydroguy's tips for more advice on how to deal with crowded days.

Most of all, have a great time!

Wow, Looks like I have some reorganizing to do, I read somewhere its best to start at one side and rotate section by section to eliminate walking time back and forth between different sections of D-Land. Maybe I should look at the rides we want on the most and then bass it off that?

I am going on the 6th and 7th, I didn't think Fast passes would be needed for weekdays, I though around a 30 minute wait for most popular rides but I guess I underestimated a weekday VS weekend and spring break.

The reason on the second day I have shopping, I figured we could get all DL stuff done on the first day and just take our time because California Adventure opens at 10:00. But your right it might be the best time to get on some rides that we might of missed the day before or ride on our favorite one or two again before California Adventure opens!

I am not staying onsite. Do the rides start right at 8 when the park opens?

Yes, this touring strategy is fine. Just incorporate gathering FP's into it. Yes, it does mean criss-crossing the park more, but the benefit of getting more done in less time is worth it.

Yes, I think you are underestimating wait times. With spring breaks still occurring, waits could be 45-60+ minutes for popular rides. Even in low season, FP's are worth your time.

The reason on the second day I have shopping, I figured we could get all DL stuff done on the first day and just take our time because California Adventure opens at 10:00. But your right it might be the best time to get on some rides that we might of missed the day before or ride on our favorite one or two again before California Adventure opens!

When I read your plan, I completely understood your intentions. They are fine ideas if line lengths were equal all day long, but they are not. The first two hours of the park being open are the best time to get so much done!

I am not staying onsite. Do the rides start right at 8 when the park opens?

MM is Magic Morning, where onsite guests and those with 3+ day tickets get in an hour before the park officially opens. It occurs Tues, Thurs, Sat, and Sun. Most Fantasyland and Tomorrowland rides are open during MM, and if you do not have MM, it does not make sense to start in those areas at rope drop, as lines have formed. It's best to start elsewhere in the park and save visiting those areas for first thing on a non MM day.

So for your trip, on Wednesday, all park rides will start running at 8am, but on Thursday, most of Fantasyland and Tomorrowland will already have lines when you enter the park. That's why I suggested switching your itinerary.

My thoughts are just suggestions and strategies that have worked for me. Others may have differing thoughts. I do agree to take your time and look for characters, see Aladdin, and enjoy the atmosphere. You have a great start for a plan, which is more than many visitors have! :wizard:

I very much agree with camouseketeer. I would revise your schedule using his info & incorporating FP collecting and an earlier "Hop" to DCA each morning. And he's right....do NOT waste the precious first 2-3 hours of either day shopping. Tour, ride slow loaders, pick up FP's.....after a few hours it will get more crowded.....THEN shop, munch on a Mickey Bar or smell the roses. :hippie:

From another post:

30 minutes early is typically when security opens (so getting in THIS line 35-40 min. early is best). Being one of the first 8-10 families at Security will get you up front (probably first thru third family) in line at the DL turnstile. Being very near the front of the turnstiles is important (to me) so that:

- For MM I'm first on Peter Pan...if i'm first on PP then the rest of MM flows easily. & even if i'm not doing PP, i would want to be first on Matterhorn...or SM (or whatever) during MM.

"Critique of MM/EE" by Hound 109 www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1392671

(& if touring on a non MM day the Fantasyland order first thing in the morning works well (after you've picked up your first FP at SM).

- Even on a non MM day, I want to be one of the first few the turnstiles so i can get to SM (or Indy) FP machine first (to start the FP collection clock). Then we'll hop on our first ride a minute or two later & begin the important first 90-120 min. of the day at DLR.

Have a great time planning a visit to Walt's Park. :thumbsup2

Hi... I am much in agreement with what others have said... You DEFINITLY want to start with Fantasyland your first day with a stop at the Space Mountain FP machine first.

I've taken your schedule of things you want to do and rearranged it a bit to make the most of your time...

Day 1:Disneyland

Eat Breakfast before arriving so you can have a little later lunch than you had planned.
* 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM - Arrival, once in gates head to Space Mountain FP machine and get FastPass (FP)
* 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM - Fantasyland: Peter Pan first if you want to ride that then Matterhorn or Mr Toad then Mad Tea Party , Sleeping beauty walkthrough can be done later (I'd advise during an afternoon when the lines for other things are CRAZY!) Mickey's Town Town: Roger Rabbit (grab a FP, do the rest of Toon Town then ride RR with FP if time is right...)
* 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM - Adventure land & NOS: Indiana Jones (Grap FP, don't ride yet) , Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion
* 11:00 AM: Grab FP for Big Thunder Mountain (if its time) , only do Tom's Island if you feel you have time and really want to or go later...(I've never taken the time to go there)
* 11:15 AM- 11:45 AM: (Critter Country) Winnie the Pooh Adventure (if interested) grab FP for Splash.
* 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM - Lunch The Golden Horseshoe or Stage Door Cafe
* 2:00 PM - 6:30 PM - Use FP's you collected earlier... Innovations, Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough, Tom Sawyer Island, shopping is good in the afternoon
* 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM - Reservation Set: Diner at 7:00 PM Blue Bayou
* 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM - Set Fantasmic Seating for Preferred seats @ 10:30 Showing
* 8:30 - 10:00 PM - Fireworks at 9:30 PM - Walk around and get spot for Fireworks
* 10:30 PM - 11:00 PM - Fantasmic at 10:30 PM Premium Viewing
* 11:00 PM - 12:00 PM - Extra Time

Day 2: Disneyland & California Adventure

* 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM - No Shopping at this time... Do Adventureland, Nos, Fontierland again (if interested) ,.. waits will be low
* 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM - Grab FP for Soarin and ride Soarin (This is a ride I like to do more than once, the wait will be low at 9:30 and then the FP will allow you to ride again.)
10:00 - 11:30 Paradise Pier, be at the rope drop for PP at 10am if not before... head straight to Toy Story Mania. Ride TSMM then grab a FP for California Screamin', ride Mickey's Fun Wheel, Silly Symphony Swings, then use FP for California Screamin (or Games of Boardwalk if not time for FP)...
11:30 - 12:30 grab FP for Tower of Terror, A Bug's land, It's tough to be a bug (I like the show.. the rides are very kid oriented)
* 12:30 AM - 2:00 PM - Grizzly River run, lunch (grab a FP for GRR if you can and do lunch then GRR, if not time or no FP then ride and do lunch after)
* 2:00 PM - 6:10 PM - Extra Time Block (shopping, use the FP for Soarin, ToT) lines will be longer at this time so either grab more FP or wait in lines... or check out the Animation Academy... Muppets 3D, Mike & Sulley's adventure (waits usually are not that long)
* 6:40 - 8:00 PM - 6:40 PM Diner at Ariel's includes preferred viewing ticket for World of Color @ 9:00 PM
* 8:45 PM - 9:20 PM - World of Color Show
* 9:30 PM - 12:00 AM - Extra Time... do anything you may have missed at DL or want to do again...

HAVE FUN!!

If you use a smart phone, there are some wait time apps available. I've got Disneyland Inside Out (which is free).

Ridemax might help, too.

Have fun!

Wow so much information, this forum is great thank you! I looked around a bit after I posted and found a ton of information. I will be using the FP's now. I like smiles plan. I think I might stick to something close to that, Ill be able to look a little closer tonight or tomorrow and see what will work for us the best.

Ok I like this plan so far ... I will adjust to rides being down and what not during the day, looks like its a little difficult to plan much more then a basic outline.

Day 1:Disneyland

Eat Breakfast

What days are day 1 & day 2?

(i assume day 1 is a NON MM day & day 2 is an MM day which you won't have)

Comments on plan below. My opinion...others might agree or disagree. :)

Ok I like this plan so far ... I will adjust to rides being down and what not during the day, looks like its a little difficult to plan much more then a basic outline.

Day 1:Disneyland

Eat Breakfast- Arrive at Security at 7:20.
* 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM - Arrival, once in gates head to Space Mountain FP machine and get FastPass (FP)
* 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM - Fantasyland: Matterhorn, Peter Pan, Mr Toad then Mad Tea Party,
If he's grabbing a FP at SM first....should he go directly to PP....or should he do in any order?

After the above 4 rides, send a runner over to Indy & snag another FP since the 45 min. will be up...it's not too far. Then head to Toontown.

Mickey's Town Town: Roger Rabbit (grab a FP, do the rest of Toon Town then ride RR with FP if time is right...)
* 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM - Adventure land & NOS:

BTMRR (if small line, ride AND grab a FP)

Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion
* 11:00 AM: Grab FP for Big Thunder Mountain

(or Splash?...or another SM?)

* 11:15 AM- 12:00 PM: Lunch The Golden Horseshoe or Stage Door Cafe

Hop to DCA for a couple hours. Grab a ToT or Soarin' FP. Then:

- Check out Flik's area (& ride Heimlich)
- Ride Screamin' Single rider (or Toy Story)
- Check out the Annimation building (Crush?) or Ride Monsters.
- THEN use your FP for Soarin' or ToT.
Then hop back to DL

* 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM - Use FP's you collected earlier. Space Mountain, Indian Jones, Big Thunder Mountain
* 4:00 PM - 6:30 PM - Innovations, Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough, Tom Sawyer Island, shopping,
* 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM - Reservation Set: Diner at 7:00 PM Blue Bayou
* 8:00 PM - 8:30 PM - Set Fantasmic Seating for Preferred seats @ 10:30 Showing
* 8:30 - 10:00 PM - Fireworks at 9:30 PM - Walk around and get spot for Fireworks
* 10:30 PM - 11:00 PM - Fantasmic at 10:30 PM Premium Viewing
* 11:00 PM - 12:00 PM - Extra Time

Day 2: Disneyland & California Adventure

* 8:00 AM - 9:30 AM - What ever rides we missed or want to do again at DL
Left side of Park....avoid MM crowds.
* 9:30 AM - 10:00 AM - Grab FP for Soarin and ride Soarin
* 10:00 - 11:30 - Head straight to Toy Story Mania. Ride TSMM then grab a FP for California Screamin',
or ride it Single rider & grab the FP at ToT or Griz Rapids
ride Mickey's Fun Wheel, Silly Symphony Swings, then use FP for California Screamin (or Games of Boardwalk if not time for FP)...
* 11:30 - 12:30 grab FP for Tower of Terror, A Bug's land, It's tough to be a bug
* 12:30 AM - 2:00 PM - Grizzly River run, lunch
* 2:00 PM - 6:10 PM - Extra Time Block
* 6:40 - 8:00 PM - 6:40 PM Diner at Ariel's includes preferred viewing ticket for World of Color @ 9:00 PM
* 8:45 PM - 9:20 PM - World of Color Show
* 9:30 PM - 12:00 AM - Extra Time... do anything we may have missed at DL or want to do again...

Aladdin? Griz Rapids?

Storybookland, Alice, Pinocchio, Buzz, Tiki Show?

But your plan is good....& it will change....mine always does. :lmao:

But by making a plan & making changes to a plan & by reading 3-4 different opinions....then you start to get a feel for how to work the park.

Plug in Pirates or Pirate's Lair if you have a free 30-40 min. If Buzz, Storybookland, BTMRR or HM has little or no line.....hop on. If it's time to nab a FP....go get one....& hop on Pinocchio or Jungle Ride along the way. :)

I just wanted to recap after the trip. We were able to do so much more then we initially thought. The key was getting there early and staying late. We basically were there open to close two days and had a quick lunch and dinner. We through in some fast pases and used a iPhone app for line length and walk all around the park and park hopped to the shortest lines. At the peak the longest lines were probably 120 Minutes the most we waited was probably around 30 minutes. It was perfect.

Everything we did I might of missed something. (x2 means rode twice)
