So here I am trying to figure out whether to go with DDP or not and I'm checking out places like FFC, CG, AP, YSH and thinking "Wow, DDP is a great value!!". Then I realized that those places take 2 credits. So I'm back to leaning toward not getting the DDP after all. For the kids it's a no-brainer at $10/day, but when I'm looking at some of the restaurants, even the more posh ones, there are things on the menu that dh and I would like for around $20-25 (or less in many cases) so that would still leave us $13-18 to spend on lunch/snacks each day. If we ordered desert it'd be easy to make the DDP a good value for us, but we don't always order desert. Too bad they don't give a choice of appy or desert :(

Since you want so many 2 TS credit places why not look into the Deluxe Dining Plan? Just a thought. This would give you 3 credits per day, per person and they can be used at TS or CS locations. You also get 2 snacks per person, per day and a refillable mug for each person. This may be more food than you need but it would allow you to go to a lot of 2 TS credit places. I believe on the Deluxe Plan you do get an appetizer. You're probably going to have to figure out if the cost is worth it at $70 per adult, per night and $20 per child per night. All depends on what you plan on eating. Good luck with your decision.

I second this post- and yes you do get the appetizer with DxDDP.

I'm another for the Deluxe DDP.

That's the whole reason I'm doing the deluxe plan on my next trip, because I always eat at a lot of signature restaurants, and it is a good value for me for them alone, (especially since I got it with the bounce-back promo for a discounted price.)

Not only will I be eating at a signature restaurant almost every night, but I can also do several character meals, as well as going to all of my favorite one-credit meals. I also don't have to worry about eating all of those CS meals, since I generally don't eat a lot of CS.

I also like the fact that the refillable mug, (which I always buy anyway,) is included, not to mention the extra snacks. One TS breakfast or lunch, and a signature dinner is more then enough for me, but the snacks will be good to have when I want a small bite in the afternoon, and knowing that they didn't really cut back on what counts as a snack this year is a relief.

Not to mention the appetizers being included, since a lot of them sound very appealing to me.

My sister will be on the deluxe plan, and isn't sure whether or not she wants to spend all that time at TS restaurants. She has a question:

While it most certainly is NOT cost effective, is it permissable to use a TS credit for a CS meal?

On the basic dining plan, you can use your TS credits at CS locations but not the other way around.

On the Deluxe Dining plan, you just have "credits". They are not set as TS and CS. They can be used however you would like.

Are you sure that on the basic DDP that you can exchange TS for CS? And where did you find this information?

Just curious, because as it is right now we will have one TS that is unplanned and it may be eaiser to use it for CS if that is possible.

thanks for the info

Yes I am sure. I have done this.

You were allowed to do this, its isn't in the "rules". It could happen for PP, but Disney isn't obligated to make the conversion. I wouldn't plan on this, but if I wanted it and it happened I'd appreciate it.

There are some TS restaurants that do not make ADRs so using a "free" TS credit may be possible. Beaches and Cream is one place that comes to mind. There are others, but thinking of a "CS" type meal this place fits the bill.

I couldn't make the math work for the DDP. The deluxe plan was a different story. I added up our probable cost for dining and we will save $500!:goodvibes You will probably be allowed to use a TS for a CS, but.....why would you want to?

I think where it works for us moneywise is that we have 2 kids. At a cost of $10 per day per child on the basic DDP we can't beat it. As for the DxDDP I know that I would end up eating more at the 2 credit places making it definitely cost effective. In the end I do it as much for convenience as for a cost savings.

For the kids the regular DDP or the Deluxe would be great, but for dh and I I'm not sure it is the best option. We wouldn't eat enough to make the Deluxe worth it and if we were paying the extra for the Deluxe then it wouldn't save us a whole lot, even if we ate at Signature restaurants. We like steak and lobster, but don't eat it every night kwim.

We are doing the deluxe this time, love appies & dessert and so does DS, plus we are doing several signature restaurants, Cali Grill, Brown Derby, Jiko, Narcossees & Artist Point. Plus we like the convienence of having it paid for except for tips.

This is exactly our position. If you have kids and do one character meal or buffet in a day, you've more than gotten your money for that day and that kid. It's quite a deal even with the changes. If you're adults, or if the kids are 10 or older, the benefit of the standard DDP is not always that much, but it does exist if you use all the credits.

We did the dining plan last year before the changes and couldn't come close to eating it all! We didn't like the loss of the appetizers and gratuity for this year so we considered the DDP. I even went as far as making all the ADRs for it then looked at it written out on paper...we would be spending way to much time sitting in restaurants eating a few bites since we'd still be full from the previous meal! So I called back and cancelled it! We are going dining plan free instead! Just like we did in the old days!!

I think we're skipping the dining plan too.

For DH and I, we just about break even when I figure in menu prices. BUT we have a 10-year-old who will be charged as an adult but will always order off of the kids menu. We'd be losing money on him. And as far as convenience goes, if we have to take money for tips/appetizers then we might as well take money for the entire thing.

I would guess that if your average entree is around $20-$25 or less then you may be better off paying OOP.

I don't see how paying an extra $32/person per day for the deluxe is going to save you money when you figure you can't spend $37 worth of food right now. Yes you get an appetizer (and an extra credit), but an appetizer costs $7 per person. That math just isn't working for me.

There is a spreadsheet that you can use to punch in your numbers. Figure what you would eat if you could order whatever you want, including appetizers.

For the DDP it figures you're paying for the appetizer OOP
For the DxDDP it figures the appetizer is included

The DxDDP may work for you, but I'd never order it only for the appetizer.

I think the Deluxe is right up your alley if you want to eat at a lot of 2TS meals!!! :)

Maybe I am misunderstanding the OP. From what I read they are ordering meals, at 2TS locations, that cost $25 or less. An appetizer costs about $7-8 at a signature.

DxDDP Cost - $69.99
TS Meal Cost - $38.00 ($25 Dinner, $8 Appetizer, $3 Soda, $3 tax - no dessert, they said they aren't dessert people)

$32.00 Difference to make up on one meal and two snacks per day. A breakfast buffet every morning is about $20 per adult, and with the new snacks, they'd really have to work to get $8 of value out of snacks per day.

If you are planning on doing any character meals it would probably be worth it to keep the basic ddp.

*also, ddp includes tax already*

Have you gone online to view menu's and pricing? be sure to add in the cost of tax, etc to see how you are breaking out.
