2 credit meals with 2008 DDP

It seems to me that the elimination of the appetizer and gratuity makes it silly to use two credits for a table service. Last year, we ate at California grill and both ordered the $17-$20 sushi appetizers. That made using two credits economical. Now, with the average cost of an entree being $35 it doesn't make any sense to use two credits. We will be paying out of pocket for all two credit meals this April.
It seems that Disney should have thought about this before eliminating the appetizer and gratuity. Any thoughts?

I think it depends on the size of your party and what you plan on ordering. I for instance, opted for the deluxe dining plan, because we'll be travelling with 2 children and wish to do CRT, instead of paying OOP for these, we'll use our TS and still have 1 TS left over for the day, and we won't be borrowing from another day's TS...also, with the deluxe, our tip for CRT is included.

I don't think the regular plan is a good deal anymore. I like the deluxe plan though, and will be booking my next trip with that.

They may have thought about it. ;) If they can get people to purchase the DDP, then pay OOP for 2 credits meals, they'll be happy campers.

I agree with that. However, it seems only fair that since you are losing a dessert by using 2 credits you should be able to order an appetizer in addition to a dessert.

We're doing the deluxe plan next year as well. I thought it would have been nice if they would allow people to choose an appetizer OR a dessert for the Regular Dining Plan. I don't like sweets, but I love savory stuff, so I'm an appetizer girl. DH is a dessert person tho. I guess it would have been a lot to keep track of for the servers tho. But, yes...I agree. They did cut quite a bit out of the dining plan (tip and appetizer), and I'm not sure it's really worth it to use 2 dining credits for most of the restaurants.

We are going with the Deluxe DDP next year as well. The D-DDP offers us more bank for the buck. We save even more by getting a 7-night @POP with the Deluxe plan and one extra night room only. We have tentatively planned all our 8 nights' ADR's. It looks something like this with our 3 x 7 nights = 21 TS credits for each.
Night #1(arrival day):
TS lunch @ Epcot/WS (1)
TS dinner @ Chef Mickey (1)
Night #2:
TS lunch @ Sci-fi (1)
TS dinner @ California Grill (2)
Night #3
TS lunch @ any one of the new TS restaurants in AK (1)
TS dinner @ Flying Fish (2)
Night #4
TS lunch @ Plaza Restaurant (1)
TS dinner @ Chef de France (1)
Night #5
TS lunch @ Teppan Edo (1)
TS dinner @ Coral Reef (1)
Night #6
TS lunch @ San Angel Inn (1)
TS dinner @ Le Cellier (1)
Night #7
TS lunch @ CRT (2)
TS dinner @ Spirit of Luau (2)
Night #8
TS lunch @ Kona (1)
TS dinner @ Jiko (2)

The 180+10 days countdown seems sooooo long away.

Methinks, Disney is creating the D-DDP as a concession to the money losing non-owned/operated restaurants while still giving us a deal. They have made the regular one only for the economy travelers and to use as a bone to entice travelers in slow times without alienating their business partners.

I too believe it makes much, much more sense to use it as you can now do a dinner show each day and still have another meal. The dinner shows run about $50 per adult and include beer/wine/tip. On a week's trip using the D-DDP, you will be ahead if but 4 signature meals are used. Once we all get used to the increased costs, we'll all be singing the praises and sharing "holes" in the plan we discover like we all so lovingly and willingly do.:dance3:

I don't believe Chefs or Teppan Edo are on the list of deluxe eligible restaraunts. That may change though. I doubt Yak and Yeti will be either.

Right now, Chefs and Teppan Edo are among the missing, but the consensus seems to be to use this year's list for ADR planning and then make changes later if needed. I know that's the approach I took. As far as AK, I'm assuming Y&Y won't be on the plan, because it is another Landry restaurant and RFC isn't, but that Tusker House will be.

I'm definitely not an expert on Disney's Dining Plans, but I'm fairly sure that Le Cellier and Coral Reef both require 2 dining credits. (The only reason I know this is because DH and I have selected them for our trip in April). Your selections look great though. :thumbsup2

They are both just one credit

We have booked LeCellier for Jan 2008, and I can assure you, it is only one dining credit...I've seen the 2008 DDP that also indicates that Coral Reef is one credit. If you have those booked you might have more TS credits than you think left over!

Oh my gosh! So sorry for the misinformation!! But, thank you for clarifying for me. Good grief, if you've seen any of my earlier posts in the Dining Forum, you would know that I'm a total ADR klutz. I should have known better than to give out advice on ADRs of ALL things. :headache: Well, yes, then that means I have two more dining credits to use. YAY, I think. We are going to come back 50 pounds heavier.

Thank you momto2inKC. :flower3: Mods-may I please change my screen name to ADRKlutz now? ;)

Seriously, thanks. I don't know why I thought they were 2 credits. I'm still in remedial ADR training.

Don't beat yourself up too bad. When the DDP debuted, LC & CR were both 2 credits. So, you're 1/2 right. ;)

If you go to Disney's webpage and search Deluxe Dining 2008, you can download in pdf a form of all participating locations and their value, TS, Signature, etc.

I am glad some of you like my ADR's plan. Sad (maybe happy) to report that we might have to cut our trip shorter to 5-night D-DDP plus 1 extra night because my husband decided that we should join our friends on a 7-night cruise out of Miami after WDW. If it was up to me only, I would rather stay longer in WDW. Heck! Maybe I could persuade all of them to come along with us in Disney. :cool1:

This list will hopefully change, & more non-Disney owned restaurants added.

For clarification, LC & CR were 2 TS credit restaurants, during the 1st year of the DDP. They dropped to 1 TS credits for the 2nd & subsequent years.
