Friday's Question:
What was the first year that Disney released 2 full length feature animations in the same year and what were the movies?

Was it 1940 - Pinocchio and Fantasia?? Pinocchio was released Feb. 7th, 1940 and Fantasia was released November 13, 1940....

In 1937, Disney's innovative first full length animated feature, SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, was released to critical acclaim and worldwide success. In order to expand and meet the expectations of his audience, Walt saw a need to increase the size of his studio. With profits from SNOW WHITE, he made a deposit on 51 acres of land in Burbank and began designing a modern studio specifically for the purpose of making animated films.

The Mummy

This afternoon it was a Universal Night, perfect for the Halloween season rapidly approaching...The Mummy. I am a huge Brendan Fraser fan...there is something about his goofy charm that just melts my heart. While these movies are certainly not my favorites that he has done, they are pretty good! I was a little worried of the scare factor with Goo...but he had seen number 3 (probably not a very good parent letting him watch...but I do draw the line with a lot of PG-13 movies especially horror type movies).

Monsters Inc

Another movie night perfect for the holiday season with the K-Quad cousins...tonight's movie Monsters, Inc. I remember when this movie came out...Boo was a little over and we took him and Ab to the movies. I thought it was so cute that the little girl was named Boo. This movie is a good one...and the voices of John Goodman and Billy Crystal could not be better choices.

We assigned the kids all to come up with 5 jokes each and we would create out own laugh factory comedy club. The kids had so much fun telling jokes and there were quite a few laughs between the groans!

Dinner:

Lunch Bags

I went and bought all those fun little things that normally I would not buy for lunches as a treat (individual packages of carrots/ranch dip & sliced apples/caramel dip, mini containers of Pringles, foot long fruit rollups, and juice boxes) and then everyone made their favorite sandwich.

Eye Scream Sundaes

I sat out a topping bar and let the kids go to town building their own sundaes...after all this is movie night!

Tower of Terror

towerofterror.jpg

This week it was the K-Quad Cousins turn to host, and the movie of choice both celebrates Disney and the Halloween Season...Tower of Terror. Their mom was out of town, so their dad (my dh cousin took over and did a great job with the movie night). For some reason, I feel like I have seen this movie, but I can't tell you when or where! It does a really good job on telling the background of the ride in DHS. If you have been paying attention to my trivia game, this was the first movie made based on a theme park attraction. Disney used it to test the waters, to see if people would watch movies based on rides...must of felt like it did because later we got POTC and we all know how that turned out!

Saturday's Question:
In Disney's movie The Haunted Manison there are several references to the Disney theme-park ride...What are they? Describe and find pictures of for bonus points!

Guess what movie is in the que for movie night tonight?:rotfl:

Bonus Question: There are several hidden Mickey's in the movie...Can you describe them?

Jim encounters gypsy woman Madame Leota (Jennifer Tilly), whose head is encased in a crystal ball.

imgres

There are two Hidden Mickeys in the film. One is briefly seen when Ramsley pours the poison in the goblet of wine during the wedding, and the second appears upside down on the halberd that falls upon Jim

The ball scene leads the kids up to the attic.

The bar scene is a reference to the Enchanted Tiki Room. This was filmed in Rob Minkoff's home.

he scene where the key bearing corpse character who rises out of the coffin at the middle of the mausoleum was inspired by the corpse in the ride struggling to break out of the coffin and calling for help.

The raven in the ride also appears in the film. It was not actually a raven but had African origins.

The attraction's line "Welcome Foolish Mortals", which was said by the Ghost Host, is heard in the opening.

The portrait corridor and the staring busts along with the breathing door from the ride appear in the film. One of the portraits, the knight and his horse which morphs into skeletons makes a cameo.

The singing busts appear also with the song Grim Grinning Ghosts,

The three Hitchhiking Ghosts also appear in the film

The caretaker and his dog, who are the only living characters from the attraction appear in the film as ghosts.

I caught you on Swwake (Susan)'s PTR and just like you 2, I'll be hitting both Universal and the World for Christmas... but next year :rolleyes1

So I'm already in the planning and I'm already waiting for your TRs so I can learn from your mistakes! ;)

(seriously, I mostly learned from my own, made last trip!)

Happy to see I'm not the only crazy poster... but you have more followers than I! :rotfl:

I wanted to say, you inspired me to do pre-trip activities, especially the cooking (check out my own PTR to see how well that goes!). Thanks! :)

Loving the movie nights!!! The brains look gross, the pumpkin cakes look beautiful! Green noodles...well that's just snot right.

So glad to have you aboard! I went on a mini USO and WDW 2 summers ago around a conference I was attending in Orlando....I knew then that I had to bring the family! I got to be at the WWofHP on opening day! Too cool! I will gladly share any mistakes or mishaps along the way...because with me they are abound to happen! :rotfl:

that is what I thought too...pretty yummy...that's what happens when you let dad take care of a movie night! DH cousin is a big kid...

The brains did look gross! What was that?? Jello-ey stuff with fruit?? :confused3

Actually it is a califlower with the center scooped out with green tinted ranch dressing and a little red food coloring for the brains. My kids are HUGE veggie with ranch eaters...and believe it or not they finished this off pretty fast!

love the movie nights! You are so creative!

Thanks...but I steal a lot of the ideas from all over the internet!!! We are having lots of fun now with the cousins involved! They are going to WDW at Spring Break so this is working great into their preplanning!

Cleaning up after another fun movie night to the sounds of the boys trying to scare each other in their bedroom:rotfl2:...Ab is off with some friends to the Haunted Corn Maze (with Jeff as the chauffer...glad it is him and 4 teenage girls who are visiting their first haunted house tonight...:scared1:)

Keeping with tonight's theme I am really looking forward to experiencing the new queue to the Haunted Mansion as well as the ride itself. There is so much hidden magic on this ride!

*The attraction has 999 ghosts.
*If you look closely at the roofline, you will notice the odd shapes of rooks, pawns, kings and queens...the Haunted Mansion's architecture was said to be a huge chess buff.
*Look to either side of the front door...those are not pillars, but coffins.
*Once the sun goes down, look toward the top-story window, you might just catch a ghostly figure.
*Look for the tombstones of Brother Claude and Grandpa March...the imagineers who were responsible for the ride.
*Look closely at Madame Leota's tombstone...it might just wake up and look at you back.
*Madame Leota was actually a real person who worked in the modeling department at Disneyland.
*As you leave the stretch room, listen for the gargoyles and the room actually stretching.
*Look at the moldings around the doors in the waiting area...see if you can see the skulls.
*As you travel from room to room, watch the windows and the ever changing Orlando weather.
*Take a look at the 13-hour clock, those are not twigs...but fingers...notice the fingernails...and if you watch closely you might just see the shadow of a ghostly hand passing over the face of the clock.
*The sheet music on the floor of the piano room reads Et cam spirituo...and with your spirit.
*If you look closely you just might see a shadow of the composer as he plays.
*The pipe organ is a replica of the one used in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
*As you pass by the singing statues, one voice might catch you attention...Tony the Tiger's voice or "Your a Mean One Mr. Grinch."
*At the end of the graveyard scene you can't help but notice the singing Viking woman...it does not end until the fat lady sings.
