Our family (DW, Me, DSons 5 & 3) are planning a December trip to WDW with my parents. We are interested in booking a 2BR. I've been told that you can get a 2 BR or a 1 BR attached to a studio. What thoughts/suggestions would you have regarding the two options? Thanks.

With your boys the ages they are, you would probably be better off with a dedicated 2-bedroom. A dedicated 2-bedroom only has one entrance door so that would prevent them from leaving the room without you knowing it.

The other 2-bedroom is a lock-off. That consists of a 1-bedroom and a connecting studio. The studio is considered the second bedroom and has a door out to the hallway.

When you reserve the room, you will know if you are getting a dedicated or lock-off as they are booking categories.

With the lock off 2 bedroom, your parents would have the studio part and that would give them the ability to come/go in their own area without having to go through the main entrance.

For some, this can be a benefit. It would also give them the additional kitchenette and a couch instead of the 2 queen beds (although you may want those).

Good luck!

Major benefit (if you consider it one) of the dedicated 2BR is that the second bedroom has two beds rather than bed and pull-out couch that the lock-off has (which is not as comfortable as a bed).

This is the strategy that we are using when my mother joins us at Disney this summer. The lock off option gives her a separate space as well as place for her to make coffee in the AM with waking up our girls.

It sounds like a lock-off might be best for us. Besides the second bed, what else would we lose compared to a dedicated 2nd BR? Thanks.

The studio portion will have the bathroom problems people have been reporting with them. I don't mind but people have complained about the sink for the bathroom being across from the kichette. There are no plugs in the bathroom so you have to use that sink for getting ready- since we don't use hairdryers or curling irons it doesn't matter to me but some people don't like it.
