Which do you prefer? Does it really matter? We will have to book 7 months out, so in reality, I'm just hoping they have a 2-bedroom villa available at Grand Californian. We will have 3 generations... myself, husband and 8-year old son, husband's parents, and husband's adult sister. Since we hold the membership, we will take the "master" bedroom. The other option is to get 2 studios, but I have a feeling that will be more challenging than getting a 2-bedroom.

We have the same question coming up for our trip next year at BLT. We are taking the master too, so I am going to leave it to my brother to choose the extra bedroom space and single entryway or if they want the kitchenette and a separate entry I'll book the lock-off. I am not familiar with the VGC layouts to know if the decision tree is the same. It makes no difference to me either way so I am going to leave it to them to see if they have a preference.

I've always heard the general rule of thumb is that if there is one couple in the second bedroom, go for the lockoff, if it is one bed and one convertible couch.

Depends on who is in the second bedroom. Younger people, dedicated, older adults, lock-off, they can come and go through their own door, they have their own kitchenette and coffee pot, and they have a separate HVAC thermostat.

I'll have to remember the separate thermostat. That could be a huge factor.

I think this helps us make a decision. The second bedroom will be my in-laws, so I'm sure they'd appreciate having their own entrance.

At VGC I'd simply be trying to get a dedicated 2BR. Otherwise for a lock-off you'll be competing for those wanting a studio (assuming those are still available) and it will be much more difficult.
