Three nights, preferred building (Calypso), through DU.
Everything was just as I hoped and expected. One VERY MINOR downside -- in my preferences I had asked for 3rd floor. We were on the second story, room 501.
The noise from above was not that big of a deal. But we did hear a lot more flushing a shower/baths than any of our other WDW resort stays. But the place was pretty full too. That was the only factor that made it seem more average motel-like. But really not a big deal.
We were facing the main pool (corner room by the elevators). We first thought this may be a noisy room because of this. But they have that room sound proofed very well. You don't hear the guests or pool music in the room.
Very comfortable digs -- clean, good mousekeeping service.
Beds were hard (as all WDW beds are I have slept in) and slightly higher than expected.
We didn't use the WDW bus service. But I NEVER saw a long line when I was outside (perusing the pin cart. ;) ) They appeared to have their usual good/organized bus service.
Food court was fine. No surprises.
We did wander ASMu a little. (Friends were in the Broadway section, that looked very nice and kept up.) We walked to ASSp & ASMo too yesterday morning. (pin carts! ;) ) Each gift shop was a little different. Interesting.
Had a great time, as always. CM's were great and friendly at all the AS's.
We arrived at 3:30 Friday and our room was ready.Check in was very busy yesterday around noon when we left. Long check in line for early check in.
Resort stay = A
If all the sides were as sound proofed as the front, I would give an A+. ;)
Very enjoyable stay. Grass needed mowing. Other than that... ;)
DH liked the Music motif and it peaked his interest to stay at ASSp.
What is nice about the three resorts is that they are so enterchangeable. No surprises. :)
Great place to stay for the $.

Thanks for your report! Did you fax in your requests or just give them when making ressie? I just booked my Dad this resort for 5 nights and he is 70 with knee problems. He has the prefered view so I guess that would be Calypso how would you say the walk was to the bus stop? Thanks for any info!

Calypso is very close to the main building. But if he has a knee problem, you would probably be better off renting him one of the little motorized carts from Walker's.
The fellow Dis-er we met up with has bad knee problems and rented from Walker. She can walk, but not the distance required at WDW parks.

A guest could be in the preferred building, but if they had health problems and were in the far backside, it could cause a problem. There wouldn't be that much difference between the far backside of Calypso and the the near side of the Jazz building.
We were in the mid section of Calypso. DH found our location very handy for a morning coffee run. ;)
But even being in the very back of the entire resort didn't seem like it would be a terrible walk -- unless the weather was bad, health problems, etc.
They have a pool by Broadway and a little fountain with benches mid way between pools.

We also noticed all sorts of mugs being used. Old, new, other resorts, even DCL mugs. No one seemed to care one way or other. DH bought a mug. I passed since I knew I wouldn't get my $ worth. I prefer juice in the morning.

It was HOT last weekend. We were there the end of May and it was hotter, but less humid. This time it was very close in temps, and 100% humidity. :p

I did fax in my room requests directly to ASMu last Tuesday. I couldn't really remember what requests I had given DU and figured a reminder wouldn't hurt anyway. :)

Welcome home! I stayed at ASMu the night of 10/10, we were on the third floor of Rock #3. I also noticed the beds were very high, they weren't that high last March (Broadway #7).

:)

Thanks for the reply! I wish I could get him to rent something but he refuses. I understand what you are saying about being on the backside. He has no idea that I have him in a prefered building or that I will be making requests for him.

Thanks again I have enjoyed your posts!

We stayed at ASMu last weekend in Broadway 7. Check in was not as smooth as I would have preferred - the CM was not as thorough as other CMs. She forgot to give us a parking permit. I asked for a lower floor for mobility concerns & got 3rd floor.

We also noticed many different All Star mugs being used in the food court. We did oserve though that the newest mugs being sold at ASMu are only Music ones not All Star in general. WE ate breakfast at the food court twice & cannot imagine some type of bar code system or whatever has been mentioned.

Our room was not ready, so we went to the piano pool. There are NO towels at the pool. I finally saw a custodial CM & asked him about towels. I explained we checked in & our room was not ready. He offered no ideas. When I asked if there was a house phone to use, he abruptly said, "No." I might have reprted his less than Disney guest service attitude except that awhile later he rode up with some towels for us.

Later when I went out to my car, Isaw a housekeeping CM in Braodway 8. I asked where the nearest phone was to call to see if our room was ready. She had no clue what I was asking. Two engineering CMs took me to a house phone near the elevators. Our room housekeeping was not the best we have had at WDW. We threw out our plastic cups one morning & were not given new ones.

On a positive note - we actually liked the soap & shampoo dispensers in the shower area. I have read mixed reviews over time, so I was skeptical. The shampoo was way better than the little Mickey bottles!

We stayed in the ASMu for one night before moving to the Poly. I thought that the rooms were unbelieveably small but they were clean and I too thought that the soap dispenser was fine. I would imagine it is easier to get the shampoo out of than the little bottles they give you at the other resort. The beds were quite firm but so are the Poly's. I think for the $$$'s they are a good choice.
