Just back from a quick weekend trip with my mom and Aunt. First time without DH....he was out of town on business. Here are my dining reviews. 1-5 - 5 being excellent. We stayed at POR. I won't review any counter service establishments. No need in my opinion - they are what they are.
Boatwright's - Dinner. Food: 2.5 Service: 4
We arrived on Thursday, 2/21 - around 6:30 p.m. Had ADR's at Boatwrights @ 7:30. Starving as we were, we went a little early and were seated within 5 minutes. Very good service throughout the meal. But the food NOT IMPRESSED. I have dined there before and always thought it was pretty good, certainly not a top restaurant, but good food and a decent value. I had the prime rib with three-cheese has browns. I also ordered a spinach salad. The spinach salad and the free cornbread are the only reason I'm not giving the food a "1" rating. Loved the dressing on the salad was a bacon herb vingarette and it was delicous - and the spinach was crisp and fresh. The prime rib - a totally different story. Most of it was fatty. I ordered it medium rare and it was cooked medium rare, but it was just a pathetic cut of prime rib. Thin, not much flavor...nothing like what I had experienced when we ate there in 2006. The 3-cheese hash browns were overcooked. My mom and aunt ordered the filet and it looked quite dried up - but that is because they order it medium well, so what do you expect, right? They didn't seem all that jazzed about their meals either, although they liked the 3-cheese hash browns. I didn't!
Boatwrights - Breakfast. Food: 2.5 Service: 4
Again, a disappointment for me. My DH and I usually stay at a deluxe resort and we often drive to POR to have breakfast at Boatwrights. In the past, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. NOT THIS TIME. However, my mom and aunt didn't want to drive anywhere to have breakfast...they just had to eat at Boatwrights each morning so I had breakfast here 3 times. Yes, 3 times. The eggs were undercooked, the sweet potato pancakes that I used to know and love were not as fluffy and delicious. Just....mediocore food at best. The only thing I liked was the french toast. Oh, and the coffee was pretty good. Otherwise, the breakfast meal would be getting a "1" rating. Good service! My mom and aunt didn't dislike it as much as me, but they weren't blown away either.
Raglan Road - Dinner. Food: 5 Service: 5
BLOODY FANTASTIC is all I have to say! Food and service! I had the Shepherd's pie which was awesome. My mom had the special which was a filet with whiskey peppercorn sauce, mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. It looked delicious and she is still talking about it a week later. My aunt got the fish and chips and she too was pleased. I was the only one who got dessert. I had the Dunbrody's kiss which is a chocolate mousse dessert with a hard shell - absolutely decadent. We got a great table right beside the table where the dancer does her thing! It's loud once the band starts going - but they were fantastic. Very enjoyable.
San Angel - Dinner. Food: 4 Service: 5
Another triumph! Except for the fact that the chips are obviously chips you can purchase in a bag at the grocery store, the food was excellent. The salsa was just pretty good. Otherwise, I might give the food a "5" rating. Although I'm not a vegetarian, I tend to lean towards vegetarian meals when it comes to Mexican or southwestern food. So, I asked for a vegetarian menu. They have to choices one of which is a salad and one is a combination platter consisting of a black bean burrito, rice, and a cheese enchilada...I got the combo platter. It was FANTASTIC. Loved the green enchilada sauce, loved everything really. Too much food though...my goodness! Mom and Judy had the Plato Mexicano which was a sirloin steak with rice and beans I believe. They loved it!! We each had a margarita which was very good, and quite strong I might add. Service was terrific -we never had an empty water glass for more than a few seconds. Wonderful experience.
Okay - counter service. I said I wouldn't review it, but I'll touch on it. We had hot dogs and fries at Caseys and it was good as usual...the same ol' thing. But, very good. Mom and Judy love sauerkraut (YUK!) and they seemed to enjoy the heck out of their lunch. We also had lunch at Seasons @ the Land. I had a kids PB&J meal (wasn't that hungry), Mom had a turkey sandwich which she loved and my aunt had a grilled veggie sandwich which she too loved! She also got a chocolate croissant for dessert and she was oooing and ahhhing over that thing! It looked delicious.
Only snack I bought was a peanut butter patty at the Confectionary and it was fantastic. But, it's hard to ruin chocolate and peanut butter, right?
That's it for us - I'd be happy to answer any questions.
