Is this way too ambitious? I was able to snag a 2:10 fp for the new alien saucer ride at Hollywood Studios for July 5th but we have a preexisting ADR at Scifi for 2:40....do you think we can make it? I was considering changing our ADR to 50's Prime Time around 1ish which would fit our schedule a lot better but it is my cousins bday and she really wants to do Scifi....of course they have no more ADRs available but I plan to keep checking in the mean time

Hard to say since the ride will be new. FP you can show up 5 minutes early... but I would change my ADR.

I would think 30 minutes should be enough time, however with it being a new ride and it being Sci-Fi, I'm not too sure. Sci-Fi can get behind rather easily in my experience, so I would want to be checking in a bit early for my reservation. I mean, I do think you should be able to do it, but don't be surprised if you are cutting it close, and then waiting a little bit to be seated at Sci-Fi.

Thank you both for the input! I know even fp lines can get a bit long when it's a brand new ride. Luckily they are close in proximity in the park at least.

In case the FP line is also long..I would take a peek and probably get in line 30 minutes early. That way you could make your way up to the line in good time. You can always ask other FP guests to go ahead of you if the FP line suddenly starts moving faster than you were scheduled for.

I just got back from a trip, and ran late for several ADRs (10-15 mins on some), and I was super stressed about it! I would definitely plan plenty of time between FPs and ADRs, and don't underestimate the time it takes to navigate the crowds, even on low attendance days! Luckily, none of the restaurants gave me a hard time for being late, and I was sat quickly (50's Prime Time, Skipper Canteen, Tusker House). My touring plans looked great on paper, but in reality, I had not planned everything so back-to-back!

You can't get in the FP line 30 minutes early.

You could try to find a later time, but I think you will be fine, quite honestly. Show up at 2:05 (or 2:00 pm to assess the line so you can scan at 2:05). Even if your wait is 15 minutes, I can't imagine the ride is more than 5 - 7 minutes long. That gets you out around 2:30 pm and gives you 10 minutes to get to Sci-Fi. If you can't change it, I would keep it.

I agree with PPs to try to change your ADR. If you can't before you go, often you can switch while there, since so many people are changing things around while on their trip.

I don’t think they mean the actual line, but the line to get up to the magic band scanners. I’ve done this many times when I’m close to my time and the line is really long. By the time we make it to the scanner our window has opened. If you get too close too fast you can ask others behind you to go ahead

Yikes. If there's a 30 minute wait to get to the scanners then something is seriously wrong!

That's exactly what I meant.
But as I stated before to the OP I would cancel my ADR.....problem solved.

Hard to say now with no first hand experience reports yet for that ride and the FP line, but my gut feel on this one is it should be okay. It's a short ride (I've read 3 minutes somewhere). I like the strategy tip above to show up early for your ADR anticipating a line to even get to the first scan point, that could save you time right there. Of course if you can bump Sci-Fi out by 15 minutes or so, that would build in a little bit of buffer for you, which never hurts.
