That was the time in which Geoffrey Mutai won the Boston Marathon. Holy bleep! :worship:

I'm not sure I could even keep up that pace for a quarter of a mile, let alone 26.2.

Congrats to all the Boston runners out there today - it's an impressive race, and someday, I hope to run it myself.

World record!!! Although technically it doesn't count because it's not a looped course or some bs like that

Ryan Hall set an American "record" as well with 2:04 as well. And how about those women?! Desiree Davali was 4 seconds shy of winning it all for the US, and Kara Goucher sets a PR a mere seven months after giving birth.

Such an amazing race. Congrats to all those who are running it as well, I hope to make it one there myself too!

Yeah...they're not counting it as a WR because of "a strong tailwind on a downhill course". Still BS. It's just as hard and leg-tearing-up to run downhills.

What an incredible pair of races. Both of them came right down to the last few hundred meters. Hard to believe the guy who came in second was running his first marathon. Wow!

I do find it odd that the winner can say he's run the fastest marathon ever but can't claim the world record. I understand the criteria about net elevation loss and maximum distance between the start and finish lines, but it's not like Boston is a gentle, all downhill course. Sheesh.

The men's wheelchair race came down to the last second too - at least from the tweets. (I'm sadly in an area where Universal Sports isn't offered on the cable providers, and my parents' computer is too old for me to risk paying to watch it online when I suspected their comp wouldn't handle it well.) Wasn't it a tie for 2nd by only a second or two?

All-around it seems like a great day in Boston.

Good job for the women too! The news I had gotten was concerned only with the 2:03 part, and mentioned Hall in passing. Goucher must have run exceptionally well - I wasn't expecting her to do so well this time around.

I wasn't able to watch it either but it sounds like quite a race. 2:03 is unreal. I wonder how our "local" boston racers are doing?

I find it strange that the oldest annual marathon in the US and probably the most prestigious marathon outside of Athens is not considered for WR:confused3. It is 26.2 miles!! Just give him the record already!

I'm pretty sure that even on a course is WR eligible, which Boston is not, that a tailwind above a certain speed will negate any record.

Can anyone verify that and if so was today's wind was above that threshold?

My friend's husband ran it today. Finished with a time of just over 4 hours. He was on a team raising $$ for Dana Farber cancer research. :thumbsup2 WTG Chris!
