I booked our hotel for our usual stay 8 nights (drive down 1st day, so not any park time) for May. Then, dh and I were chatting and wondering if that is too long away from home with baby. He will turn one while we will be there. Usually, he does good away from home ... but, we have only been away for 3-4 nites at a time since he was born. Not too mention how much shock he will be in at all the people, decor, etc while at WDW. Just wondering if we should shorten our stay. Any advice from other parents .... ??????

We love long trips with our little guy, since it gives us plenty of time to relax, take things slow, enjoy the pool at the resort, etc.

We took him for his first birthday and stayed 8 nights. We took him again at 20 months and stayed 10 nights. Both trips were fabulous! He's quite a traveler and has been on lots of other trips, too. He never has any problems. That probably depends a lot on the personality of the child, though. Ours happens to be very laid back, easy going, and flexible.

One thing I will say is that, since we started traveling with a baby, we have been renting points and staying at the DVC resorts. It makes such a huge difference! It's wonderful! We can usually get a one bedroom villa for less or about the same as we would pay for a regular deluxe room. What a deal! We love having the extra space for him to play, the ability to put him to sleep in one room while we stay up in another, the washer and dryer, the kitchen, etc. Now we're spoiled and will only do DVC resorts when we travel to Disney with the little guy. I think it makes the long stays much more comfortable. Luckily, renting points makes that very affordable for us until we can get it together to become members ourselves.

By the way, it looks like our stays will overlap! Maybe we'll see you there!!

Thanks GEM for the advice. I think we will go ahead and stick with our regular plans for 8 nites, then just use a MUCH slower pace this trip! :) Are you guys staying at POP in May?

My baby just turned 15 months and we have traveled with him everywhere [even out of the US such as NZ, Australia, etc]. I think longer is actually better because you can take things more slowly and enjoy instead of being rushed. My guy loves to be out and about though and is pretty mellow so I think it all depends on their personalities. I would vote for you to keep your 8 days stay - I am sure he will love it! Happy 1st bday to him too! That first year sure flies! HTH

We were going to do Pop, but we couldn't resist the lure of the villas - so we've switched to Saratoga Springs. I need to update my counter!

Yes- SSR looks REALLY REALLY Nice! We were thinking of villas or Contemporary(stroller+monorail=good thing!), but we are travelling with another couple who wanted POFQ.

You will like POFQ, we spent 2 weeks there with a little one at the end of last year. She was 14 months, and we had a great trip. I would also vote for a longer stay so you can slow down and relax and not panic about not having enough time to do everything.

Thanks Bev- we have stayed there before, but it has been many years ago! Looking forward to a smaller resort!
