1st trip report - 1st trip to Disneyworld w/ pics

Day 4 – Wednesday – May 2 - Typhoon Lagoon

Got to Typhoon Lagoon at 9:00 for extra magic hours. I am soooo glad we did this b/c we were able to go on any ride or slide? with no wait.

Disneyworld07204resized.jpg

DD is afraid of deep water and really doesn’t like to wear a life vest. We had no idea where to even get one at TL. Turns out they are when you first walk in. I really didn’t want to walk back and get one and we were planning on sticking in the kiddie area (Ketchakiddee Creek) anyway. The kiddie area had a mini tube ride that DD loved. Here's a quick pic:

DSC02922resized.jpg

DH and I wanted to go on some bigger ones so we convinced DD that she could go on them. The lifeguard said the one with the blue tube was very gentle and she would be fine so we decide to go. I think this one is called Keelhaul Falls. It might be Mayday Falls. I go first, DD second, DH third just in case DD has trouble on the way down. DD loved it but freaked out at the end b/c she needed help off the tube. After we convinced her it was a lot of fun, we went a couple of more times then headed to the family raft ride (Gangplank Falls). DD liked this one a lot more b/c all 3 of us rode together. It is a shorter ride and you get real wet going under waterfalls. Next, we went to a more adventurous single tube ride. I think this one was Mayday Falls, although it could be Keelhaul Falls. Not sure which was which. I went first and was worried about DD going down b/c it was fast and quite bumpy. I was relieved when I saw her coming, white-knuckled and all. I wish I had the camera to catch the look of terror on her face. She didn’t want to do that one again. Once 11:00 rolled around, it got more crowded and about a 15 minute wait. Plus the pavement was quite HOT waiting in line so we decided no more rides today, not worth the wait. We headed over the wave pool and DD was still afraid of the water so we tried to get her a little deeper in the water, but it was not happening. DH went on Crush 'n' Gusher. DD was too short. I stayed with DD while DH went. He kept trying to convince me to go, but I didn’t want to go by myself and carry the tube up the stairs, plus it was a 15 minute wait. I was fine watching DD play with some new friends. We pretty much hung out at Typhoon Lagoon until 1:30. Had lunch there too, another chicken wrap split and pizza for DD. DH and I split lunch most of the time b/c we had pretty early dinner ADR’s each night (5:00 or 6:00) and didn’t want to be full for dinner. The bus back to POR took forever so we didn’t get back to POR until 2:30 ish. First time all week, we had to wait a long time for a bus. We saw other resort buses go by 2 or 3 times. By the time we got back, we needed to shower and head over to Hoop Dee Doo Revue for the 5:00 show. We took a bus to MK, then took the boat to Fort Wilderness lodge.

Got there early and waited outside to be seated for HDDR. They take your picture there which ended up being $40+ so we did not buy it. We were in category 3 seating and I liked it b/c it was in the balcony and no one in front of you at all. We were the first table by the stage too. Your back is to the show while you eat, but then your chair turns around to watch the show. Here's a pic so you could see where your seat would be:

Disneyworld07210resized.jpg

It was cold in there, bring a jacket or sweatshirt. The food was really good. All you can eat salad, cornbread, fried chicken, ribs. I thought the ribs were very good. All you can drink beer and sangria too. DH got the draft beer, they brought him a little pitcher. I chose the sangria, only had 1 glass b/c I was sooo stuffed from dinner. DD did not eat, except for the cornbread. She is picky. I wish I would have known she could have asked for something else. Our waiter did not offer. I guess they share the kitchen with a TS at Wilderness Lodge and she could have got mac n cheese. Although, she probably would not have eaten that either. She managed to eat a little dessert though:

DSC02940rsized.jpg

The show was a good time. DD laughed a lot at the clumsy parts. I don’t think she got most of the jokes, but still thought it was funny. I probably would not go again after seeing it once b/c it is 2 TS and quite expensive. To see it once though, I would say yes. Here's a pic of more fun at HDDR:

DSC02942resized.jpg

We then went to Chip and Dale’s campfire sing-a-long at the campgrounds. This is a free event every night. We bought a marshmallow kit for DD. I was too full to even think about marshmallows. DD roasted some marshmallows while we waited, but she would only eat unroasted ones.

Disneyworld07224resized.jpg

Disneyworld07225resized.jpg

FYI, I had DD's nails painted before we left for Disney. You could see her nails in the picture above. My local nail place charged $15 to paint both her fingernails and toenails with cute flowers on them. We opted to do this instead of Bippity Boppity Boutique. BBB sounds great, but it is a little pricey and so out of the way to go to DTD, in my opinion. I hear they are opening one inside the castle though. Back to the campfire singalong; it was nice, they did some songs, and then Chip or Dale came around to each kid for a pic / autograph. Only one of them though, both did not come around. We got Chip – the dark nose like a chocolate chip. Dale has the red nose. So, we learned.

Disneyworld07227resized.jpg

We ended up getting Chip and Dale’s autograph 3 separate times on this trip. Once just Chip, both Chip and Dale at Epcot, third time they were with Clarese at MGM. After the sing-a-long, they played a Disney movie. We did not stay for the movie. We walked to the beach to see the lighted boat parade. This in my opinion was not worth the effort and wait. As DD would say, “Boooorrrrrinnnggg.” At least we could say we saw it and don’t need to next trip : )

Disneyworld07232resized.jpg

DSC02959resized.jpg

Now, it was past 10:00 and we had to get back to POR. Our options were to take a bus to DTD, then bus or boat back to POR; or call a cab. I chose to take a cab. First we had to take a bus back to the main building, then they called us a cab. Best $6 we spent which probably saved us a good hour of bus transfers, etc. After some frog encounters, we called it a night!

Disneyworld07238resized.jpg

This was our “rest” day which ended up being our latest night : ) Tips for the day: Use the EMH at the waterparks, no lines : ) Prepare for a wait for the buses. They don’t seem to run as often as the parks. If you want a relaxing evening, but fun for the kids, go to the Chip and Dale campfire sing-a-long. It is free and the kids really enjoy it. Lighted boat parade – OK to see once, would not make the effort to see it again. HDDR – great time, great food; but pricey to do everytime; bring a jacket!

Day 5 coming up soon :)

Hook line and sinker... love it so far :yay:

I just read your trip report and I love it! You were there a couple of days before us! :wizard:

Can't wait for more! Your daughter is very cute.

I just started reading your trip report but had to stop and thank you for the airport tip. I, too, am flying United out of O'Hare. I am going the last week of August. I am flying by myself and have a 6:20 flight to Orlando. I am always early for everything, but will make sure I am super early for my flight. I am trying to figure out what the best way is to get there. I live in Chicago. DH is planning on taking the kids camping the same week I am going to Disney. We're not sure what day he is going to leave so, he may not be home. Even if he is home, I don't want to wake the kids up at 4:00 AM just to take me to the airport. Maybe I will just catch a cab.

Thanks, again! Now off to read the rest of your report!! ;)

Thanks everyone for reading! Thanks for the comments about DD too! We definitely got lucky, she's a keeper. Everyone keeps telling us our next one will be a terror. :scared1:

mvazul - You are welcome about the airport tip! I wish someone had told me that before we made our driving arrangements that morning. I figured a Sunday morning, no traffic, no problem getting there about an hour before. Get there more than an hour before! I'm just glad we still got to Disneyworld in the AM : )

I'll post day 5 soon! Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone!

Day 5 – Thursday – May 3 - Epcot

Got there right before opening. Tip: Most people were in about 4 or 5 lines which were getting pretty long. I saw CM’s start to unchain another line so people started lining up there. I’m thinking, they may open all of them. I went to look in the gift shop and noticed more turnstyles with no lines. I asked a CM if they would be opening these and he said yes. So, I called DH & DD over and we were first in line : ) This picture is on our way out later, but figured I'd stick it in here b/c of the Epcot in the background.

Disneyworld07260resized.jpg

We were the first ones walking into the Living Seas Area.

Disneyworld07242resized.jpg

DH ran to get fastpasses for Soarin’ while I took DD inside the aquarium. The Nemo and friends ride (not sure of the official name, but it was the one where you ride in a clam shell) was having technical difficulties (will be a pattern today) and Crush didn’t start until 10 so we had an hour to kill. DD stopped at the kids’ station and started her necklace. The CM there was very nice and answered all of questions and said low crowds expected today – YAHOO! We walked around a bit and looked at all the fishies while waiting for the Nemo ride to get working again or Crush to start. Nemo began to work so we were the second ones on that ride. After that, we caught the first showing of Crush. Loved that show, “DUDE.” DD loved it too; she thought Crush was most funny Dude! Went to Soarin’ next using our FP. Liked it, but it made me nervous. My palms were sweaty. The lady next to DH was very nervous. DH thought she was going to be sick all over him! Luckily it did not happen. Here's a pic of DD right before Soarin started. I'm not sure what that look is but she liked it!

Disneyworld07243resized.jpg

After that, DD added to her necklace and then we grabbed a quick bite to eat at the Sunshine Seasons food court. DH and I split some noodles, chicken, etc. It was OK, should have got a sandwich or salad instead. DD was not hungry so she had some fruit bowl. Went to Club Cool to try the sodas from around the world. A couple of them were pretty good, a couple of them not sooo good. We tried them all. Then, we saw the character connection building. JACKPOT! There was no line and inside was Mickey & Minnie; Pluto & Goofy; and Chip and Dale. DD was really into getting autographs and pics now. My tip would be to snap pics like crazy as she goes up there. We have a lot of cute pics of her hugging the characters, not just the posed ones.

DSC02972rsized.jpg

Disneyworld07248resized.jpg

Disneyworld07255resized.jpg

Went on Test track next with FP. Ride broke right before we were about to go. Sat in our car for about 20 minutes. I'm not so sure I wanted to be the crash test dummies for when it was "fixed." After waiting 20 minutes though, I was not about to hop out. Finally fixed and we got to go twice in a row! DD loved it! "Again, again!" She added to her necklace with a car and a cone. Decided it was time for a break so we went back to POR to swim. Here's a pic of what mousekeeping left DD:

Disneyworld07259resized.jpg

Went to the quiet pool b/c the main pool was very crowded with no chairs last time. Plus, had to do some laundry which was at the quiet pool. Worked out well. Tip: there are no towels there so you either need to bring them from your room and grab some at the main pool.

Disneyworld07349resized.jpg

After swimming, we went back to Epcot for dinner at Coral Reef. Food was delicious. I had the steak, DH had the blackened catfish. Dessert was really good too, the chocolate wave. Although, I would have preferred some ice cream with it so I took some of DD’s. DD wanted a glow Tinkerbell so I asked our waitress. She said I could get her one but it is extra $. I figured that much, yes, she wanted one. So she brings her a sprite with a glow ice cube (blue) in it. I figured maybe that is all they had. So, about 10 minutes later I see a little boy with a captain hook one. So, I asked our waitress again and said DD wanted Tinkerbell. She said she would “see what she could do.” Even though I originally ordered a Tinkerbell? In the end, DD got her glow Tinkerbell ($8, in case you were wondering) so all was good. Her favorite souvenir.

DSC02995rsized.jpg

We were able to catch the last showing of Honey, I Shrunk the Audience. I thought this was pretty neat! However, we had a bit of a strange character in the debriefing room or briefing room or whatever you want to call it. It was dark in there and he was laying on the floor off to the side talking on his cell phone. I kept looking over there thinking that was strange. Well, the talking turned into yelling and swearing. Everyone heard this and started yelling at him and the CM announced over the speaker, “Please remember, this is a family park.” An older gentleman stood over there by the man. Very brave of him b/c he was a big guy on the floor. The CM walked up to him and saw how muscular the guy on the floor was and walked away. My guess is to get some backup or security which I don’t blame him. The guy continued to swear on the phone with no regard to anyone around him. We were finally able to go into the theatre and the older gentleman stayed just standing over the man. It was quite a scary situation. Not sure how it ended, but I was a little nervous for awhile. What would possess someone to do that at a family park? Oh well. I'm just glad we were able to get DD away from that situation. We almost left b/c this was going on for about 5 minutes. Almost forgot, we did The Land which is near Soarin’ before dinner and DD said, “BOOORRRRRIIIINGGGGG!” Anyway, after dinner we walked around the countries. We took a ton of pics like these, but I'll only post one to show how beautiful the greenery was throughout Epcot:

Disneyworld07271rsized.jpg

We did the Mexico boat ride, then got a spot for Illuminations. Sent DH to get some adult beverages too. Illuminations was pretty neat. Although, I think I like Fantasmic the best. Here's a pic from Illuminations:

Disneyworld07283resized.jpg

Headed back to POR. We found lots of frogs out at night. They liked to hide in the shutters. DH flung one down and tried making it hop. It hopped right over sleeping DD and right into her stroller! It actually jumped under her seat and then eventually into her basket. :rotfl2:

Abbydis.jpg

I was not going to bring it in our room so I made DH get it out. She didn’t believe us, but thought it was funny when she saw the picture the next day. I guess here is a good place to mention how thankful I was to have the stroller. I bought this stroller (Maclaren Triumph) right before our trip. DD is pretty tall and does not have a stroller at home anymore. After reading the DIS and debating about renting, I decided what if she falls asleep at night. I don't want to be carrying her and our bags to the bus stop and throughout the resort so I bought the stroller. I'm soooo glad I did. It was the best purchase for this trip. It folds up easy just like an umbrella stroller and is pretty light to carry with a convenient carrying strap. I got a pretty good deal on it too as it was a 2006 model. It holds up to 55 lbs too! If you are interested in where I got the stroller, what I paid, etc. let me know.
Ok, back to day 5.......All in all, we had a great day. Once again it was really HOT, but still not a drop of rain since we got to Disneyworld. Crowds were managable too. Plus, the lines for the characters were not long either. The bus line to get back to POR was always really long, but they would send 2-3 buses in a row so it never took very long which was nice.

Day 6 coming soon!

Great trip report! Sounds like you had a lot of fun. What a cute idea giving your daughter the jibbitz every morning from Tinkerbell!!

Great trip report! Your report makes me feel like I'm there. The pictures of your daughter are so cute. I love the Tink ears! I had never seen them before. Also, I had never thought to take a picture on the carousel with the castle in the background. Now, I'm going to next time for my girls!
Can't wait to read more!

:thumbsup2 Great report....we're staying at POR for the first time this Aug./Sept.....makes your report even more interesting for me! Nice photos!

Thanks everyone for reading!

Great trip report! Sounds like you had a lot of fun. What a cute idea giving your daughter the jibbitz every morning from Tinkerbell!!

Thanks! I actually got the idea from the DIS, but changed it up a little bit. It was a great way to let DD where we were going for the day without complaints about how she would rather just swim or go to MK everyday.

GreatLakes5 - You will love POR. We loved it! It is beautiful. I would just make sure you request the building you want ahead of time so you are close to everything that you want to be close to. I gave them about 4 different buildings and we ended up getting 1 of them :)

Day 6 – Friday, May 4 MGM & MK

Got to MGM for the opening. We were determined to find all the characters we could for DD since we did not get any the first day at MGM. Here's a pic from the opening:

Disneyworld07289resized.jpg

DD and I stuck around the hat to get autographs right after opening while DH went to get a FP for Tower of Terror. DD says she wants to go on ToT! She loves the rides that go up and down so she says. We saw Donald and Daisy, Clarese with Chip and Dale. DD already had Mickey & Minnie, Goofy & Pluto, so we didn’t wait to see them again. I heard Daisy was hard to find, but we saw her a couple of times this trip. We went to Donald and Daisy’s line first.

Disneyworld07297resized.jpg

We decided to get Chip and Dale AGAIN b/c Clarese was there. DD’s quote, “She’s pretty than I am.” I told DD no one is cuter than her.

DSC03022resized.jpg

We hit some more rides and shows and got more autographs all day long – Woody, JOJO, Little Einsteins, Mr. & Mrs. Incredible, The Robinson’s to name a few. DD enjoyed the Robinson's b/c he kept playing with her ponytail :rotfl2:

Disneyworld07328resized.jpg

Disneyworld07326resized.jpg

DD even did Tower of Terror. She said it was sooo scary, she almost flew out of her seat. :scared1: She said she didn’t want to do that one again! We ended up getting front row which I read is a different experience than sitting in the back. Either way, I thought it was great! You literally do fly out of your seat. We saw lots of people heading to the chicken exit on this one which you still have to take an elevator to get out. Here's a pic after the ride. I think DD was still a little in shock!

Disneyworld07307resized.jpg

Also saw Beauty and the Beast, Live on Stage. Great show! Belle is DD’s favorite princess. We got there right before the show started and were able to get front row seats! They also have a little singing entertainment before the show which the audience seemed to enjoy. Here are a couple of pics from Beauty and the Beast:

Disneyworld07314reszied.jpg

Disneyworld07316reszied.jpg

Disneyworld07324resized.jpg

Although, on this trip, DD has grown fonder of Tinkerbell. After all, Tinkerbell left her gifts every night. Almost forgot, we also saw the Power Rangers. At first, DD didn’t care to see them until she saw the Pink Power Ranger. She loves the color pink. Well, after the Pink Power Ranger had her pose like her for the picture, DD decided to meet all of them. We got the last ranger just in time before they had to leave. Now, Power Rangers are some of her favorites.

Disneyworld07337resized.jpg

We were really glad we went back to MGM so DD could meet a lot of characters and experience ToT, and see Beauty and the Beast. After we saw Monsters Inc, we had lunch at Backlot Express. Note, Monsters Inc do not sign nor stamp autographs. They only take pics:

Disneyworld07344resized.jpg

For lunch, all 3 of us split 2 orders of chicken fingers and fries. They were pretty good. We had a big dinner planned so we didn’t want to get too full. After lunch, we took a break and went swimming at POR, the quiet pool again. Much less crowded than the main pool. After swimming, we went to MK for awhile and caught a daytime show at the castle.

Disneyworld07351resized.jpg

Disneyworld07357resized.jpg

We rode Big Thunder Mountain RR and Splash Mountain again and then took the monorail to dinner at ‘Ohanas. It was yummy. Go hungry! And PACE yourself. Don't get filled up on everything before they bring out the meats. They start you off with salad, sticky wings, fried wontons with dipping sauces. Then they bring out the potatoes and vegetables while the 4 different kinds of meats were brought around (steak, pork, turkey, and chicken – I think). Some of the meats were better than others, but those dipping sauces made everything taste great. DD had chicken strips with French fries since she would not eat anything on the table. DD loved the kids’ activities (hula dancing, limbo, coconut races, etc.)

Disneyworld07370resized.jpg

I know she does not look amused here. I had to help her b/c she was getting lapped by older kids........It is a lot harder than it looks. :rolleyes1

Disneyworld07364resized.jpg

DH and I loved all the food. The dessert was fabulous. It was bread pudding with banana foster sauce. It was really good. I think I liked this dessert the best out of the whole trip. And believe me, I love chocolate. By the time we finished dinner, it was too late to go back to MK so we decided to wait out the monorail until we could ride in the nose. Waited about 10 minutes and finally got our chance to ride in the nose which DD liked. Took that to MK, then the bus back to POR. Avoided the crowds b/c Wishes hadn’t even started yet. We packed up as were departing tomorrow. :sad1:

Last day coming soon which includes lunch at CRT!

I've really enjoyed your trip report so far! Your DD is a cutie!

My supervisor/friend at work has breast cancer and just finished chemo, etc. She's just 32 and has a DD your age. They've never been to WDW so I got them a villa for 6 nights at Saratoga Springs with my DVC points and they were to arrive today. Planned it months ago when she was first diagnosed because I knew her and her DH and DD would be needing some pixie dust about now. It's given her and her family something to look forward to. Plus, if things don't go well, you know, I just couldn't stand the thought of her not being able to experience the magic & wonder of WDW with her DD. Plus, a good memory for her DD of her mom. We all chipped in at work and were able to come up with enough for their passes and to rent her a scooter for the week too. All they had to pay for was gas down & back, food & misc. They were all so excited! Her DD was driving everyone crazy for months!

Anyway, love the pics of your DD & family enjoying it all. Sorta like seeing my supervisor/friend & family taking it all in for the first time! Thanks for sharing!

Wow! That is the most generous & heart warming story. I'm sure they will have a wonderful time and be thinking about how you and your co-workers made it happen.

Day 7 – Saturday, May 5 MK

Our scheduled pickup for Magical Express was not until 4:30PM for our 7:45 flight. Can’t wait to sit at the airport for 3 hours! I guess we will get there on time though. So, we got up early checked our bags at POR with the magical express. Checked our carry-ons for the plane with the bellhop. We actually got our tickets for the plane right there at POR which was pretty convenient. Once we get to the airport, we can go straight to the gate. We had some counter service meals left so we had breakfast at POR (1st time all week), Mickey waffles!

Disneyworld07381reszied.jpg

All week we ate cereal in the room or granola bars. Not big breakfast people. After breakfast, we headed to MK. We got some more autographs on Main Street. Pinnochio, Gippeto, Foulfellow wolf (not sure who that is), Clarabelle Cow to name a few.

Disneyworld07385.jpg

Disneyworld07386resized.jpg

Disneyworld07390resized.jpg

We were able to ride a few rides, it was noticeably a lot more crowded. We waited 40 minutes to see Ariel in her Grotto. At least they have a play area with water to keep DD cool. Although, she was soaked by the time it was our turn to take a picture with Ariel. I played in the water myself to keep cool while DH saved our place in line.

Disneyworld07394resized.jpg

Disneyworld07397resized.jpg

We went on Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for the last time this trip. We were in the front row on this one. I didn't buy the pic, I just took a pic of it with my camera :rolleyes1

DSC03151resized.jpg

By this time, it was only minutes until our ADR so we had to hurry over to the castle. DD put on her Belle dress which we had a in bag in the bottom of our stroller. She was very excited to have lunch with all the princesses. Cinderella left her a note last night inviting her b/c she was a good girl all week; with a Cinderella jibbitz, of course. Belle, Snow White, Princess Aurora, Jasmine, and Cinderella were there. DD almost started crying when Belle came over and she gave her a hug. It was too cute!

DSC03193resized.jpg

Cinderella stays in the main entrance where you take a picture with her. DD took the picture by herself as DH and I did not want to be in it. We knew this was included in the package price of the lunch. Personally, I didn’t care for the food or the price of the food. We paid OOP for this one. Ended up being $110 for the 3 of us. However, the experience for DD was worth every penny. :thumbsup2 I would try to get breakfast if we ever went back to CRT. DD still talks about how she had lunch in the castle and it was her favorite part of the trip. Here’s a couple of pics of what is included in the package:

Disneyworld07457resized.jpg

Disneyworld07456resized.jpg

After lunch, we headed over to Toontown b/c we never made it there our other days at MK. It was packed and waits were over an hour for rides and characters. Way too crowded for us so we hopped on the train and headed back to the front of MK and back to POR, got some sandwiches to go at POR foodcourt with our remaining CS credits. Used our snack credits at POR gift shop for Mickey rice crispy treats for our nieces and nephews. POR would not let us trade the remaining CS for snack credits which I was kind of bummed about. We had to use CS which ended up going to waste. DH ate his sandwich on the plane, but I ended up just tossing mine b/c I was not very hungry. We relaxed in the POR lobby until the Magical Express came. DD colored and watched some cartoons. 4:30 - Off to the aiport and home. :sad1:
To sum it all up: Quote by DD: “I’m going to be sad when we leave. I’m really going to miss this place.” We had an awesome trip! Although it was really HOTTER than expected, the crowds were manageable. DD almost filled her autograph book and we have a lot of great pictures for a lifetime of memories. Thanks to everyone on this board for all the help and great advice. It made our trip most memorable! Hope you enjoyed my first ever trip report! We can’t wait to go back! :yay:
