1st Trip as Mommy & Daddy Nov 2011 TR- Complete!

Hello! I really enjoyed reading your trip report, my son was born on 10/27/10, so our boys are close in age. We are going in the end of October for MNSSHP and to celebrate his 2nd birthday, so I enjoyed seeing your pictures and tips. Ironically, we also have the same stroller, and I was wondering if you found it too bulky on the plane and the transportation, getting around. Everyone seems to take lightweight strollers to WDW. We have a couple of strollers including umbrella strollers, but find this one the most comfy for him. If you found it wasn't a problem, than I am taking ours!

I am loving this trip report! My husband and I don't have children yet, but we have an ongoing debate about when we should take our future baby to Disney for the first time. This report has me convinced that 12-18 months will be PERFECT! Those character photos you have with your little one are worth it on their own.

How cute is that cookies for Santa plate? I was the worst time resisting it, but couldn't ruin replace the set we already use each year. So adorable..

LOVING all of these cutie Paxton pics! His sweet smiles with the CP characters are incredible. That Tigger pic is definitely one to frame. He's is just too cute! I sit here smiling through all of your updates. :thumbsup2 Loved his sword in the stone shot, too!

I'm behind and reading these backwards now.. haha.. Need to catch up, but can't wait to read about DHS! popcorn::

Sounded like a great day at the Magic Kingdom! :goodvibes

Emma princess: x

:) It really was! Probably one of the best days of the whole trip. That CP breakfast really put us in great spirits for the rest of the day, and the crowds weren't too bad, unlike later in the trip!

Just want to say you really have figured out the "go with the flow" vibe needed for touring with a toddler.

:goodvibes Thanks for the compliment! I was very surprised at myself being as flexible as I was. Usually I like to have more of a plan than what we did have, and I get a little anxious when things don't go according to that plan. But DS has taught us MANY things about life since his birth, first & foremost of which is to be flexible!

I love the atmosphere on Main Street in the morning. So welcoming and inviting.

It looks like it was a good morning and Paxton made some more good impressions on the characters. I wish our experience on the TTA had been as good as yours was with Paxton.:rolleyes1 :lmao:

There's just something about being a little kid and loving the Country Bears and It's a Small World. There's nothing that will ever change that. My mom tells me that when I was 3 and we went, once I saw the Country Bears, that's all I talked about and all I wanted to do. So good luck with your next few trips! :thumbsup2 :rotfl2:

I really like the first trip shirt you found. We didn't see those. We definitely would have bought one of them if we'd seen those shirts anywhere.

I don't think I have EVER been fond of the Country Bears, but then again, I didn't go as a small kid. So your thinking may be correct...the younger they start the more they like it! Like I said, I guess I'll be getting a LOT more familiar with the Country Bears over the next few trips. :rotfl:

We didn't see the first visit shirt many places, I think the only other place we saw it besides the Emporium was a merchandise cart at DHS. I was disappointed that the smallest size they had was 2T so it still is too big for DS to actually wear. At the rate he grows, he might not be able to fit into it until his 3rd trip. :rotfl:

Thanks for joining in! :goodvibes We too will be there for the end of October...thinking the 21-28, so we will actually be in the parks on DS's 2nd birthday, which I'm pretty excited about! We definitely loved having the big stroller with us on the trip. We didn't have any problems gate checking it for both flights, so it was waiting for us as soon as we came off the plane. We had a rental car, so we never had to worry about getting it on & off of buses and the like, so I can't comment on that. Getting around with it was no problem for us, and we were able to store a lot in the bottom basket that we didn't need to carry around with us (extra diapers & wipes, change of clothes for DS, and a cold pack bag with DS's cup of milk in it). With all the stuff you need to bring to the parks with a little one, I would say if you have to choose between the two, go with the one with the storage space! :thumbsup2 Plus we could recline it back when DS was getting drowsy for him to nap in.

Make sure you check out this thread to see about getting a stroller license plate tag! We got one customized for us, punched a couple holes in the top, and attached it to the handle of the stroller with some zip ties. Makes it much easier to spot your stroller in the stroller parking lots & she has some VERY cute designs!!

Welcome & thanks for joining in!! 12 months was definitely the perfect time for us to take him, and I'm SO glad we did! It was a lot easier than I had anticipated, and he really had a GREAT time! I'm going over to check out your TR right now. :thumbsup2 We honeymooned in WDW in 2007, so I love reading honeymoon TRs too!

I really love the cookie set, and I'm glad we bought it! Apparently someone had given us a cookie plate with Santa on it before, but this one is way better of course! We didn't have any attachment to the old one since we had never used it before, so it wasn't a big deal to replace it.

I'm glad the pictures make you smile! Of course they make me smile every time I look through them too. Just reminds me of what a great time we had on our first family vacation, and gets me more excited for the next one!

Looks and sounds like a really great day! How did Paxton do in HM and MPH? I'm afraid that Alex will be scared in HM but DH disagrees since it's one of his favorite rides LOL. I love love the sweatshirt you got! I hope they still have it when we go in a few weeks. I might just have to get one for myself. I also love the frames you got. And you might have already covered this but I don't remember, where ever did you get the Mickey paci clip? I'd love to get one for Alex!

Paxton did fine on HM and loved Philharmagic! He just kind of looked around in HM (I don't think he understood that he was supposed to be scared, it didn't faze him), and for Philharmagic, he sat on my lap and watched the whole show, and even clapped at some parts. I think he enjoyed all of the singing & bright colors.

The paci clips...Ebay! We found all kinds of cute ones, but that one of the characters in the Mickey heads was my favorite. The lady we ordered them from sent us a 4th of July one also as lagniappe. I did a quick search but couldn't find the seller I bought them from. Hopefully you can find something! Also, I'd look on etsy if ebay doesn't have a lot.

Oh good! I just remember always being scared in HM as a little girl so I didn't want Alex to feel the same way. Hopefully he will take it just as Paxton did. That's great that he enjoyed MPH too.

Oh yes I seem to remember you posting about them on your PTR. I knew I had remembered seeing them before. Thanks! I'll do a search on eBay and definitely check out Etsy too.

Wow what an amazing day in the MK! I absolutely loved your CP update. Pooh & friends are personal favorites of my DH & I and I absolutely cannot wait for our own little one to meet them - I hope it goes as well as with your DS. What a magical first trip! He is such a cutie, I love those big smiles. Oh and I agree, I think working at the Country Bears sounds like a punishment. We've never watched it, and I hope we never have to :rolleyes1

IDK if you've heard this, and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Matterhorn at DL is going down for refurb until June. I know that your trip is in May, so it looks like it will be closed while you are there. Sorry, but when I heard, I thought of you guys, and figured better to know sooner than later.

I have never really been a fan of Winnie the Pooh, but we knew this breakfast was a must if we wanted to get into the park early. I'm SO glad we did it! Definitely a highlight of the trip, and a breakfast we will be doing on future trips. :goodvibes And yes, avoiding Country Bears indefinitely is a GREAT plan! :thumbsup2

WHAT?! That stinks! I was looking forward to it even though DH said it wasn't that great just because it is something DL has that WDW doesn't. Thanks for thinking of us and letting us know. I really have to get on my research for this DL trip! I have been slacking (and trying to plan our next WDW trip instead :rolleyes1)

What a great MK day! How were the crowds? the waits didn't seem too bad. I love the Paxton fell asleep on TTA, so cute! I guess it is relaxing!

Will's favorite ride is the Haunted Mansion now. I am glad Paxton wasn't scared, I guess he is probably too little to really know what is going on. My niece was terrified on HM one trip, she was about 4 or 5 and they had that big spider scene (since replaced with the new staircase scene) and she freaked out. LOL! I guess you never know with kids.

Love all the purchases too- that glass frame is just adorable!

It was about this point in the trip that we noticed the crowds increasing. The closer it got to the weekend (Veterans Day) the more crowded it was. And the wait times grew as well, even for things that normally don't have much of a line.

He looked around a lot on HM, but definitely didn't understand enough to be scared. I'm a little worried that it may change next time around when he's older, but I guess that's something we'll have to figure out when it presents itself!

I love the frame we picked for his room! It will fit in no matter what we change the theme of his room to, and I look forward to changing out the picture on our many WDW trips to come! :goodvibes

First up, a couple of pictures I forgot to post last update! After realizing that our photos from the first day in front of Haunted Mansion weren't on our card, we made sure to stop and have them taken again. Although we weren't there for Halloween, I thought it was the most appropriate border for the photo subject!

Now, moving along to...

DAY 7: Thursday November 10th

Although we still had 2 more days left of vacation after this day, it was our last full day in the parks already! We were up at 7 am to feed DS his breakfast and get ourselves ready for another morning at DHS. We decided to give rope drop one more chance to get on TSM again and see what else we could do in the park.

This was the picture I posted of FB that morning after getting DS dressed and ready for the day.

0995.jpg

We left the resort and arrived at DHS by 8:35 am. Again, we managed to pick a line without many people in it while other lines were stretching way back to the entrance to the park. :confused3 Today we had a vastly different strategy. Instead of the two of us trying to navigate the crowd with DS in the stroller in the mad rush towards Pixar Place, DH was going to get himself to the front of the crowd and hurry over for FP's while I stood back from the crowd with DS and headed first to Star Tours. We had missed it on our first day in DHS and we both really wanted to ride the updated attraction.

0996.jpg

Love the CM's waving with the big Mickey hands in the morning!

As planned, I hung back from the crowd and watched from the corner as the crowd got larger and larger. While we waited, I even took DS through a couple of the shops, and the CM's looked so surprised to see someone shopping that early in the morning when everyone is usually jockeying for position in the TSM crowd!

Again this morning, there was no rope drop show, just an announcement as the CM's dropped the rope and began walking people towards Pixar Place. I took my time pushing DS over towards Star Tours with only a handful of other people, and the park was actually peaceful over on that side compared to the chaos happening on the other side! Once DH caught up with us with the FP's for later, I got my first ride on the new Star Tours!

0999.jpg

0998.jpg

I'm not too familiar with Star Wars so I don't know the names of all the places visited on the attraction. But on my first adventure, I got Darth Vader, the Wookie planet, and the underwater planet with Jar Jar Binks. The 3D effects on our crash landing we really amazing! I really enjoyed it and it was much more smooth of a ride compared to the old Star Tours attraction. Then I waited with DS and fed him some puffs while DH rode. He got the Storm Troopers, the pod races, and Coruscant. Boy, did I get SICK of listening to the Jedi Training Academy show going on while I waited!! :lmao:

By the time we finished riding, we were able to use our FPs for TSM, so since DS had been so patient with us in the stroller we figured we'd do something he could enjoy as well.

1002.jpg

This time he sat on DH's lap, yet DH still managed to beat my score!

1000.jpg

1001.jpg

DH got the Best In Vehicle score, so he made sure I got a picture of it for him.

1004.jpg

Next up, we went to visit the Kermit & my favorite, Bean Bunny (!), at Muppets 3D.

1005.jpg

I was so hoping DS would enjoy this show since it's one of my favorites, and he had done so well at Mickey's Philharmagic, but no dice. He fidgeted and fought me to stay in my lap the whole time. He wasn't fussing enough to be disruptive to where we had to take him out, but he just kept stiffening up in my lap in an attempt to get down. It definitely didn't hold his attention at all! We'll have to wait awhile I guess before trying that one with him again.

Since he was starting to act tired, we figured it was best to leave him in the stroller for awhile and see if we could get him to fall asleep. So I walked over to Rock'n'Roller Coaster by myself while DH followed more slowly behind me with DS in the stroller. We were hoping to trade off riding Single Rider again.

It was SO LONG!!!! First I stood forever at the point where the single riders and FP riders merge with the standby line right before you head into the studio. As I later figured out once I was FINALLY let into the studio, it was because the line of single riders after the studio was HUGE!! The standby wait time was posted as 30 minutes, and it took me just as long to get through riding as a single rider! And I got put in the very last row, so my head was bouncing around on the seat and the shoulder harness. Needless to say, not my best RNRC experience!

By the time I made it out, I found DH and DS at Catalina Eddie's where DH was eating an early lunch of nuggets and fries, and DS was still sleeping. I went ahead and got some food for myself, then offered to let DH go ride RNRC but he was starting to not feel well and not interested in riding.

We chose to head out of the park at that point and take an early break back at Bonnet Creek. There wasn't much else to do with DS in DHS and the headliners were building some impressive lines, so we decided there was no point in staying.

Instead of heading straight to the resort, we made a quick stop at Publix for more milk, and some cough drops and cold medicine for DH. Unfortunately, we FORGOT to get that one jar of baby food we were short for DS and it ended up biting us in the butt later on. Then we went back to Bonnet Creek to feed DS his lunch and let him play & run around after spending most of the morning in his stroller!

(Not sure why we took so few pictures this day :confused3 But we got more in the afternoon!)

UP NEXT: And all our Wishes will come true

I hate that wait at the top of the SR line at RnRC. Sometimes the CM can be really annoying about letting single riders in. I just don't think the set up is all that great, sorry to hear you had a 30 minute wait. Ugh!

Looks like an okay morning at DHS, but you had forewarned me that there wasn't that much to do there with a LO, esp if the shows aren't working out so well. I'm not into the muppets so I think we'll skip that anyway, while she doesn't know the difference hehehe.

As for your DL trip - I'm so jealous! I just love DL!!! Indiana Jones is the best ride EVER IMO, so you must must must ride it a bunch. Single Rider there is awesome - and DL seems to have a lot more SR options than WDW as a whole. On my last visit I actually went by myself for 3 days and had a blast, but I grew up on the west coast so visited DL way more than WDW growing up. Matterhorn is neat I guess, but gives me a headache every time I ride it so I usually just ride it once, if that, when I go. I love going on Mr. Toads Wild Ride, PotC (better at DL!!), Alice in Wonderland, Storyland Boats...and I think that's about it for the new stuff at DL. DCA is fun too, I'm waiting to visit DL again until Carsland is complete. No FP's for TSMM!! Which is crazy.

Good plan for the morning... TSM is just ridiculous. Unfortunately, that's about the only family ride there though.

I completely agree with everything you said about Star Tours. The updates are awesome, both from the visual side of things and the smoothness of the ride. I really like the whole "different experience" aspect of the ride now too. I just wanted to keep riding until I saw all the different scenes.

I'm a big Muppet fan too. This show is on of my favorites in all the parks. I just love the theming of that whole little corner of the park. DS sat through it ok... he didn't really seem to get too excited about any of the shows but he didn't really fight us about sitting through any of them. I would try it again with Paxton next time... he might enjoy it more. Maybe he just didn't want to sit then? :confused3

I'm sorry your Single Rider wait for RnR wasn't great. I did FP instead of trying single rider when we went. You just never really know what you're going to get. It is a good thing to have available when it works though.

I love Paxton's one year shirt! I have one for Alex too as you saw in his birthday pictures.

I'm also glad you got your picture re-taken at the HM with the ghost. DH was most excited about that picture when we were there for Halloween last.

I cannot wait to ride ST!!! I know DH is going to ride it over and over and over. He used to practically run to this ride whenever we got inside the park. Like a little kid!

It looks like your DH also got the highest score that hour on TSM :goodvibes I'll have to make my DH hold Alex if we go on this with him to give me a bit of a crutch

That totally sucks that the line was so weird for single rider and you didn't have such a great ride on RnRC. I hate sitting in the back of a roller coaster too. Nothing like purposefully giving yourself a headache. :headache:

Ugh on forgetting the baby food too at Publix. And cold medicine?? Being sick at Disney is the WORST!! But at least you were smart and went off property to get that stuff. I got really sick on our 10 day trip there in 2007 and I went to the resort "pharmacy" and paid an arm and a leg

I wanted to mention that I showed my DH the pics from your CP bfast last night. He actually remembered me talking about your TR a couple weeks ago (WOW!! :lmao:) and absolutely loved Paxton's pictures. AND...he was also very intrigued by the idea of the vinylmation so I might have to get him into it (vinylmation trading) on our trip!!

So just wanted to say thanks for showing a disney resistant guy how absolutely awesomeeeeeeee it's going to be. :cloud9: hehehe

The SR line had worked out SO well the first time that I just wasn't expecting that huge delay the second time. And it did seem like the CM was just kind of ignoring the fact that the SR line even existed for awhile, so that all added to the suckiness of the whole experience.

I am getting SO excited about visiting DL!! I had always said that I'd like to take just 2 or 3 weeks to travel all over California because there is just SO much I want to see & do in so many different cities. But I guess if DH is offering even a quick trip to DL, I'll take him up on it. I'm excited to try all of the rides that don't exist in WDW and to compare the ones that are on both coasts. I'm excited to try Indiana Jones and Space Mountain!! Matterhorn being closed is a minor disappointment, even though DH said he didn't enjoy it that much just because it is something new. I have to say though, I really haven't been stressed about the planning too much like I do over WDW trips...I think since we are on such short time, we will probably skip any sit down meals. And the crowd calendar has most of our days a 2, so I'm just plain not worried about having a touring plan. So I'm feeling really laid back about the whole thing, which is so odd to me when planning a Disney trip!! :lmao: We have a strategy for World of Color, and I think that's the most important step!!

Good plan for the morning... TSM is just ridiculous. Unfortunately, that's about the only family ride there though.

I'm not a Star Wars fan (I only showed any interest initially because of Natalie Portman!), but the updated attraction is just incredible! The 3D was amazing, and it was great seeing an attraction that had such NEW 3D sequences...Most of the time by the time I see them they are starting to look a little worn out. We got the one sequence at the end when something comes through the glass and it looked SO real!

I would definitely be open to trying Muppets again next time, just because I LOVE them!! Hopefully he will be more cooperative with shows next trip because there are so many I look forward to seeing that we skipped this time around. He is just such a little busybody!!

I am already looking for a birthday shirt for him for this year since we will be IN Disney World on his 2nd birthday (at MK, I'm sure!), so he needs another cute Mickey one!! I have found a couple I like already, so it will probably take me up until October to choose. :rotfl:

I always enjoyed the old ST attraction enough, but the updated version was truly incredible! Your DH will LOVE it, which may suck for you as you try to drag him away to do something else. :rotfl:

Forgetting the baby food was a giant pain in the rear, but that is typical for us going shopping without a list. :rotfl: Luckily DH didn't start feeling too bad on the trip because we stocked up on the cold medicine early on. He mostly wanted cough drops for his itchy throat. Being a nurse my mind always jumps to something crazy, so I was just thankful it wasn't my first thought...strep!! That would be NO fun in WDW!!

Aww, love that he loved the pictures!! I did the same thing when we were talking about taking this trip, showed DH all the pictures of kids having a great time in WDW. :goodvibes Not that he needed much convincing, but it was a good way to bolster the argument for not waiting until he was older. Vinylmation trading was SO fun on our Babymoon trip, mostly because we didn't have many at home. It is probably always the most fun that initial time when everything is so new. I think if DH had not traded so much online at home and gotten SO into the trading all the time, it would have been more fun this last trip. But now that he has most of the ones he wants, the ones for trade in the parks were less appealing. :confused3 I say go for it & have fun!!

I totally don't blame you for already looking for a birthday shirt for this year. I used an etsy shop called stitcheroos that has some really cute disney stuff for kids birthdays. They also have a separate web site if you'd like the link.

 I'll just leave him and go do what I want to do.

 grocery shopping w/o a list is dangerous for us. We have to go with a list 'cause if we don't we buy way too much! Glad to hear that DH wasn't feeling too bad and it wasn't strep! It sucks being sick at WDW with just a regular cold let alone something that needs antibiotics.
