1st timer going to Universal

You can if you absolutely have to but it's not recommended. You should take two full days to see everthing Universal has to offer.

I don't have to. But, I want to, because I love Disney and want to spend the other 6 days there. My plan was to fly in Saturday night, do Universal on Sunday, then do Disney monday through Saturday.

It is hard to do any two parks in one day..but it might help if you let us know a bit about what you enjoy? Do you want to do coster type rides, freefall rides, shopping..... Do you tend to attack the park at a run, or a slow walk? Will you be staying on site with front of the line passes? You get the idea.

I think you have a good plan by doing Universal first, and if you don't like coster type rides, free fall rides, shopping or wet rides you will spend less time in IOA... but it is still worth going to IMO.

If that's the case, I would say IOA...nothing compares to Hulk, Spiderman, Dueling Dragons and JPRA.

You should be fine for hitting the highlights of both parks. If you're there and you find there's more that you want to do than time allows, you can opt for purchasing the Express Pass which would allow you to skip the lines 1 time per ride.

You won't get a very good feeling about the parks if you are rushing around with a main objective of getting as much ridden as possible. Compare it to doing Magic Kingdom and MGM in one day.

We were just there this weekend. We got to IOA around 11 on Sunday, rode everything we wanted - no water rides, went to US, rode what we wanted and then left before 6. It was our first time at both parks but we had Express Pass. The regular lines weren't long but obviously it would take you longer than it did us. You'll probably rush a little but it is doable. Have fun!

I looked at the express pass and it says that there are no dates available for when I am planning on going. What does that mean exactly? how the express passes work? Thanks for all the info so far everyone

Did you scroll all the way down the page? There are different prices for different times of the year. I was confused at first too, but then I scrolled all the way down to $19.95 and found my dates. I wouldn't buy express until you get there though. You might not need it.

I scrolled all the way down and couldn't find anything different. I guess I'll just wait. How will I really know how crowded it is since I have never been? Any suggestions? I plan on getting there right when the parks open

You will know if it is busy by how long the waits are. The waits are shown outside of each ride. If you don't mind waiting 20 minutes or whatever is listed for a ride then don't get the pass. If you want a shorter wait, buy the pass. Some people that we talked to bought the pass ahead of time, but the waits were from 5 - 20 minutes and they were mad that they paid extra. They would have preferred to just wait. We liked just walking to the front...

We did both parks on MLK day. We skipped the shows in IOF and saw everything we wanted to. Be there half an hour before opening and plan on staying through closing.
