1st timer going may 4-10 needs help w/ 50th celebration levels

My family and I are making our 1st trip to the World on May 4 - 10. We were thinking about being in MK on the 5th cause it's only 1 of 2 days that we can see Spectromagic (the other being the following Sat.). The more I see about how busy the park will be on that day (media coverage and all) the more I think we're making a huge mistake for even being in Disney World at this time. Has anyone else heard anything about crowd levels or closing rides for the media? I even heard that they are going to close Main St for part of the day. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? Also any tips on making the best of all of this?

No one is really sure what the crowd levels will be - if you have a park hopper - you could go see and leave if it is too crowded - you cold go back at night for the parade

rumor is Main Street will be closed until 2:00 and that rides will close periodically -
