1st TIME USING MAGICAL EXPRESS...

the biggest thing to remember is not to be in a hurry. You're using a shared service at no extra cost. It won't be nearly as rapid as a private service for just you and your party.

Make sure you have clothes you want for parks or whatever activity you might do in your carry on. Your bags may arrive a few hours later.

Definitely this - my last 2 trips on DME, it was 4 hours after I checked in at the resort before I got my luggage - the first time I ended up tracking it down myself and getting it from Bell Services because I messed up and didn't put the correct items in my carry on. The 2nd time, I'd just gotten back to my room after being in MK when it arrived so I know for sure how long it took.

Also - if you are hungry when you get off the plane grab something at the airport because it really can take 90 minutes to get to your resort on DME.

Put on your magic bands once you arrive at the Orlando Airport - when you get to DME, they'll scan it and direct you to the right bus line using that.

If the bus driver touches your luggage, give them a tip so have a dollar or two handy for that.

1. Yes because it's part of DME's contract with MCO that they're not supposed to take walk-ups. You're not assigned to a specific bus, though, so you can take your time and make a bathroom break or get something to eat or whatever.

2. DME runs 24/7.
Thank you!

1) Get your own bags off the flight and load them on the bus.

2) Look at the line before you check in. If it's busy, take a cab. It's about 40 bucks to most resorts, and it beats standing and waiting and waiting if it's a long DME line.

3) Arrange a cab for the trip back to MCO. For very justifiable reasons, DME wants you at the airport a lot sooner than you might want to be there.

DME is a nice perk during slow times (if such things still exist) but the $100 you end up spending in cab fare can save you a lot of aggrevation, and help you get your trip off to a happier start

I've seen a fair number of posts from people who think that getting picked up by DME 3 hours before their flight is too early, but really, that's going to get you to the airport about 2 hours before your flight, which is what is usually recommended anyway, but also, I've heard that security at MCO can be slow. I'd much rather spend some time at the airport shopping, eating, or just relaxing at the gate, then having to race thru the airport hoping to not miss my flight.

You're supposed to get your luggage about 3 hours after you check in, so if by "arrived" you mean when your plane landed, then you probably got to your hotel about 10:15-10:30, which means you shouldn't have gotten your luggage until after 1:00am. If it came while you were eating dinner immediately after checking in, then you got it incredibly fast. Heck, even if 9pm was when you arrived at your hotel, you got it incredibly fast.

Close to it. According to my picture time stamps we were on the airport monorail about 9:15. Getting onto the Magical Express about 9:30. Checked into our hotel (CBR) between 10:30-10:45. We got our food for dinner around 11:15. Then I have my first picture of the room a little before 12PM. It was probably a few minutes after that when I discovered someone had called and left the voice mail.

We knew they estimate 3 hours after landing before we would be getting our bags so that's why we weren't bothered by them not being there when we got back from eating. That's also why I was surprised we had gotten the voice mail while we were still out. We were fully expecting to wait a bit longer to get them. But if I hadn't noticed the voice mail I wonder if they would have assumed we had just gone to bed and would have delivered them the next morning.

We usually make sure we have our carry -on( for the park and with personal stuff-toothbrushes,deodorant,Rxs,etc.) & a carry-on with sandals, swimsuits, sunscreen ,books, etc. for the pool.We usually arrive early afternoon, check in at the desk and get our magicbands activated. Then we go to lunch, visit a park and go in the pool.

Three out of 4 times staying at Yacht Club & using DME were wonderful. However, one trip, staying at Satatoga Springs & using DME was a nightmare. On that trip, we were unable to get into our room until 6 pm!( we arrived at 1pm off the bus). They could not find our luggage. The front desk offered to watch our carry-ones while we went to a park for lunch. We were upset ( needed to shower ), and had no clothes to change into for dinner. As we boarded a transportation bus for dinner, we saw our luggage go by on a golf cart. So, just in case....prepare for not seeing your luggage . Another tip....mix family members clothes in each suitcase. If one suitcase gets lost, you will all have some clothes in another suitcase.

Seems like a lot of 'what ifs' happening here.

1. Unless you arrive later than 6pm, there's really no reason to not tag the bags and allow DME to handle them for you. If you aren't going to need anything in the checked bags for 6 hrs or so, let DME take them for you. But always, always, always pack your carry on bag with anything you will need for the first day of your trip...airlines misdirect bags, and if that happens to you, you will have what you need to get by until the bag reaches you.

2. The lines aren't long! The worst line I've seen took less than 25 mins, and that was on a Sat afternoon, in Dec, when Pop Warner families were arriving, and the DME counter was still being used. The line was back to the car rental counters!! But, it took less than 25 mins. Now, no need to use the counter, you go directly to the bus kiosk, scan your MB, and head to your resort bus line.....those lines are seldom longer than 20 mins. A year ago, we had an issue that forced us to hang out at the bus kiosk for 15 mins, but we still arrived at our resort in a timely fashion.

3. There is a reason DME picks you up 3 hrs prior. MCO recommends getting there 2 hrs prior to your flight departure. And believe me, there are times you'll need those 2 hours!! Not always, but since there is no way to know that beforehand, it's better to be there early!! Even when I take a car service (which I heartily recommend over a cab!!) I have them pick me up 2.5 hrs prior to flight time. I've seen way too many people trying to shove their way through security or onto the tram yelling that they have 15 mins before their flight departs!!!
I'm really not trying to be argumentative, but obviously my experiences (which number about 25) with DME are vastly different than yours.

Here are some times I've had with various modes of transport, from MCO to resorts....as best as I can remember them.

Using DME.....shortest time was 60 mins, longest 85. Usually around 70-75. Bags get to my room about 3-4 hrs later. I'm usually not there to see.

Car service....with carryon bag only....45 mins. With checked bags, 60 mins

Mears...between 70 and 95 mins. Depends on if I have checked bags and how many stops there are.

No one service is going to be perfect for every family, and what worked 5 yrs ago, may not work today. It's up to each group to research and decide what is best for them.

1) Get your own bags off the flight and load them on the bus.
Which delays your departure to the DME Welcome Center by 20 minutes or more. Much more if you arrive during a lightning storm.
2) Look at the line before you check in. If it's busy, take a cab. It's about 40 bucks to most resorts, and it beats standing and waiting and waiting if it's a long DME line.
Cabs are on a different level, delaying departure further for Guests deciding their specific DME line if any is too long. And cab fares are more in the $55+ range plus tip.
3) Arrange a cab for the trip back to MCO. For very justifiable reasons, DME wants you at the airport a lot sooner than you might want to be there.
Not necessary. Guests who do choose this option can generally simply walk out the front door of the resort and get in a cab. And save 30 minutes, but spend, again, $55+ plus tip. Never take an unmetered taxi.

No kidding! We've experienced long waits at MCO security and I have a cousin who travels there frequently for work - it is notorious to her and her fellow travelers for security delays (she blames all us "$&@! Vacationers and families with no clue how to travel" lol). Grab a cab for any reason you like, but not allowing lots of time st MCO to arrive, get thru security and get to your gate is a risky proposition.

We will be flying and not checking bags....do I still put the flight info into my reservations on the disney website so they know to pick me up? How late will DME pick up?

Even if you are not checking bags, you still need to be registered to ride DME. So yes, get your flight information to DME. They will send you a letter and luggage tags. You won't need the luggage tags. They will also have your flight information to arrange for your return to MCO.

DME runs 24/7, so it doesn't matter how late (or early) your flight arrives. The late arrival caveat is only for checked bags and you won't have any.

Good advice here!!!
My personal thoughts are:
Be sure to tag your bags with the yellow tags. If you will need more than 1 person, call ahead of time. They only send one initially. If you are arriving before 10 PM let DME pick up your bags and deliver them to your room. Like GoofyforTink we have used them 10 or 12 times and been totally pleased. People who bring their bags to the bus slow down the process for everyone (the driver has to unload luggage at each resort stop).
The average time from deplaning (not landing) to our resort has been between 70 - 90 minutes. We have not found the lines for the DME buses to be too long. Our bags have always been in our room when we returned from our afternoon at the parks.
I too believe that the 3 hours before flight pickup leaving is the right amount of time. Security at MCO can be outrageous. You can also use RAC at your resort to check your bags and get boarding passes between the hours of 5 AM and 12 Noon, at least 3 hours before your flight. They work like curbside check in at an airport. They tag your bags for your home airport, transport your luggage to the airport for you and you don't need to worry about it again until you reach your home airport luggage carousel. Like curbside checkin at airports, you should tip those who help you.
Have a Great Trip.
