The fact that you are going to UO is a big step in the direction of having a great time! If the two of you like thrill rides and things out of the ordinary, a great adventure awaits.

If you have not already purchased a guide, I would recommend Universal Orlando; The Ultimate Guide to the Ultimate Theme Park Adventure by Kelly Monaghan. The book will detail what to expect on many of the rides, along with money and time saving tips. Hotel and restaurant information is also included in the guide.

The start of a great trip to UO starts with checking into an on site hotel. If you have not already heard, this will give you unlimited front of the line access to each of the rides (limited exceptions--rides you and a 16 yr old would likely skip anyway) all day, every day of your stay including check in and check out days. I highly recommend the Hard Rock Hotel, especially with a teenager. HRH is a five minute walk to Universal Studios and a ten minute walk to Islands of Adventure. Having the unlimited FOTL will give you and your son the luxury of sleeping late and not worrying about getting to the park at opening time. An onsite stay will allow you the time to return to the hotel for a swim or a nap and an easy trip back to the parks when you are ready to return.

If you and your son like basketball, you will likely love NBA City. We usually eat there at least once each visit, and I think my son goes to their game room almost every day. We also like Margaritaville.

If you post some details of your trip, perhaps there will be other tips. If you keep checking these boards between now and your trip, you will likely pick up a lot of tips.

Hey! Be sure to check out my website and messageboard at www.universalimho.com it's Universal Orlando in the teenage perspective. :) I hope it helps, with the reviews, and check out the Vacation Planning Guide for a few FAQ and tips as well. :)

HTH!!!

How many days are you going for?? Where are you planning on staying?? Are you planning on doing both parks?? We just went this last Aug. and my boys (18-16) had a blast. They got the room key........ (fotl) and we saw them when it was time to eat!!!!!! LOL You and your son will have a fantastic time.

If you are going for only 1 day, I'd suggest going to both parks......... you can buy the 1 day 2 park ticket for around $77.00 each, this gives you access to both parks........... and you don't want to miss either park!! If your plan is only 1 day,
You can purchase an EXPRESS PASS PLUS book, which are between $15-25.00 each, this gives you express pass tickets that are good for 1 ride 1 time, they scan the tickets so you can really only use it the one time, I'm not certain how many tickets come in a book....... someone else will tell you!!! But, basically, lets say you use one of the tickets for hulk.......... you can't use another ticket for hulk you have to use the tickets for 1 ride 1 time, the rest of the time you'd have to wait in the regular line.......... unless you buy another book.

OR, you can use your park entrance ticket, there are EXPRESS PASS machines located outside the rides, you insert your entrance ticket, and get an express pass ticket with a time printed on it, at the time listed you come back and ride it using the express line, then you can get another express ticket ..... HOWEVER, if you miss the time, you cannot get another ticket for, I believe 1 hour.......... say your ticket says 1pm, you wouldn't be able to get another ticket till 2pm.

If you are going for more than one day, there are many other ticket options available. Are you planning on staying onsite............ if so, that is a whole different story, resort guest get room keys.... your name and age are printed on the key......... with this key you get (fotl) front of the line for the entire length of your stay...... all day the day of check in until park closing the day you check out. This is WELL worth the price you pay to stay onsite. ( There are tons of ways to get discounts as well............ if you plan on staying onsite, then we'll get into how you get discounts)

You don't really need a plan of action.......... depending on the length of your stay, you should be able to everything you want to do. As far as restaurants, my boys loved NBA city, Margaritaville and Mythos.......... they were all fantastic!!! There are a lot of good places to eat.

Anyway, if you could give a little more info on what your "plans" are, then we would be able to help a little more.

Hope this helped a little anyway...............
