I just reserved a room at the Dolphin for Feb 2004 using the nurse discount code ($129/night) which seems like a fantastic deal....maybe a little too good to be true? Am I going to have a view of the dumpsters or what?! Has anyone else out there used this rate and if so, what was the room like? Can I make a request or should I just be happy with what they assign? Were there any hidden fees that I should know about? I registered for the Starwood preferred guest program but I'm not really sure what it is or what benefits it offers. My other option is to reserve a room at the Contemporary and hope some kind of discount code appears in the next few months....I'd be grateful for anyone's thoughts or insights!!! Thanks much!!!

Welcome to the DIS.

Lots of people have used the Nurse/Teacher discount so I am sure it will be great.
I believe the Dolphin has a $10 a resort fee. There have been various stories of success in getting it dropped, but I would not count on it.

As for the view, I have had a standard view room at the Dolphin. I just kind of looked out onto some green grass, not bad at all.

You get the standard view with the teacher or nurse rate at the Dolphin or Swan. You may have a room between the wings of the hotel, or out the front that looks over the parking lot. There have been people who have gotten upgrades for asking at check in, and they are usually very good about doing that if it is available. Check out the FAQ at the top of the board for more info.

Some of the views are out over the roofs of the convention center as well as loading areas and such. I booked a discounted standard view a couple years ago via Dreams Unlimited and expected to get one of these rooms. I joined Starwood and when I arrived at the hotel I didn't ask for anything, just layed the card down. She took it, didn't say anything about it and checked me in and sent me on my way. I had a corner room with King bed and two windows with views of the Dolphin itself, Epcot, the Boardwalk and the lakes and across to the Swan and the Tower of Terror all this and an extra large balconey. I don't think having the Starwood Card on a dicsounted room will work all the time but it worked for me!
