Yes, it's true, all lock-offs, and I confess that it is the very reason that we have yet to stay there (we own there, even -- but we had 2 toddlers and a baby on the way when we bought in '99!) The other aspect is I think that the doorknobs and lightswitches seem incredibly low at BWV. I know they weren't that low at VWL or OKW (or our room would have had the lights flickering like a discorama, right before they bolted out the door!) I was visiting the BWV models in March and noted these factors to the MS person, and asked was it like that in all the rooms, or was this a HC room , or what -- but she had no clue. She peeked inside another room and said it was low also, so I was led to believe all BWV have low lightswitches and easy access doorknobs as well. She responded to my question about children in the 2nd bedroom by noting that some people put the portacrib in front of that doorway (whether they have a baby or not) in order to keep their child in, and that some folks hung door alarms or bells on the door to at least alert them of anyone exiting.
As for us, we will actually try our "home" BWV in Aug '04. By then, our kids will be 9,8, and 4. But I should add that we will have a two (adult) family members with us that will be in that 2nd bedroom, so that is probably the reason I feel secure with it! True confession -- if it was just our kids in that 2nd bedroom, and dh and I in the master, we would be going to VWL or BCV or OKW where we could get a dedicated.
