Hello. I made my first purchase today on ebay. Actually, I made two purchases. I bough tickets to the Orange Bowl for my DH, DS and some other family members.

I am just really nervous. I have gotten a response from one buyer to my email I sent, but not the other. How long does it usually take to get responses from Ebay sellers? I checked the feedback and although this person has not sold anything since July, they have been a member since 2003 and have 100% positive feedback.

I am a worry wart and just want assurance that I did the right thing by buying on Ebay. I am aslo worried that I will not get my item in time.

Although I know that you guys can not give me exactly what I am asking for... I just wanted to ask if you have done this before and if so, is it usually a safe way to buy things.

Well sometimes there is no EMAIL period, many transactions consist of...

1. Winning the auction
2. Paying for the item(via paypal or other)
3. Item arriving.

Yes some do send updates and instructions but I really prefer it when all details are listed in the auction itself.

I checked the feedback and although this person has not sold anything since July, they have been a member since 2003 and have 100% positive feedback.

Dont focus so much on 100% feedback number, IMO it is better to look at the total number of items sold.

Someone can have 100% feedback out of 5 items sold, while someone can have 98% feedback with 50,000 items sold. Which would your rather buy a high ticket item from?

I also like seeing what kind of items are usually sold by the seller. There are scammers that build up their feedback with a bunch of .15 cent items, and then all of a sudden list a bunch of high end electronics.

Ebay is safe, but it is buyer beware. You are not buying from Ebay, but they give you enough tools to research.

I've sold over 1000 things on ebay in 6 years and only send an invoice, not an email.

and it is the weekend now. don't count saturday and sunday in response time...

MIkeeee

Thanks guys. I have heard good things. I just typically always trust what my fellow disers have to say.

The reason that I sent an email is because of the time the description says the tickets will be mailed. With the Christmas holidays and the fact that DH will have to drive about 18 hours to arrive for the event, I want to make sure he has the tickets in hand in time. I am willing to pay extra for overnight shipping if possible.

I am sure everything will work out fine.

You can add a note when you pay by paypal. Just tell them that you can send extra for quicker shipping. Then you would just send them the extra in a separate payment.

I did not do it when I paid with paypal, but I sent an e-mail right after stating that I would pay extra for overnight shipping. Still no response.:sad2:

Tinkerbell, if I was you, I wouldn't worry about it too much -- YET.

It's a Saturday afternoon/evening. Many people aren't chained to their computers on the weekends like they are when they're at work during the week.

If you don't hear anything by Monday afternoon, that's when you should start wondering.

Thanks. That is what I was hoping. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Hey I won for the first time today too. All I got was the you have won- invoice after I paid with the sellers name and location.

So I'm anxiously awaiting my item.(and thank goodness because it's for my 3 year old who keeps saying Santa is bringing me X- well they don't make X anymore. Thank you EBAY!)

Just a word of warning...buying tickets to an event via ebay is rarely a smart thing to do. Many sales are violating scalping laws in place, and even more are fraudulent tickets.

I hope yours is not, but it is one of the easier scams to pull on ebay.

I have thought about this. I am hoping, though, that because this person has been selling for a while and has sold tickets before with no negative rating that they are legit. I would think there would be a negative rating somewhere if they have sold bad tickets.

BTW... do you know how you check to see if the tickets are good? Is there a way to do that?

not that I am aware of. Most tickets are purchased online like that so they are printed from your computer, and they have a barcode, which is scanned at the event. If you have any questions or concerns about the validity of a ticket I would contact the event venue and speak with their ticket desk.

If they have a regular history of selling tickets you are probably safe from having been duped by fake tickets, but you should make yourself aware of the laws regarding scalping tickets in the location of the event. In many states it is illegal to sell tickets to sporting events/concerts, etc. for more than the face value of the ticket. People do it, but it is still illegal.

I'm like John Smith1 -- most of my communication to buyers is simply the invoice, and I've been selling on eBay for several years. Some eBay sellers do it full time, but many others do it as a sideline. As a result, they may not have time to respond to every e-mail. What I prefer is a note through eBay's message system. That way I have everything -- the auction results and any communication -- all together.

If you're concerned about the validity of the tickets, you could wait until after the event to leave feedback. With this item I'm sure the seller would understand if you didn't leave feedback immediately after receiving them.

I do have another question for those of you who sell/buy on Ebay. I have to pay an add'l $10.00 for overnight shipping. How does that work? I have already paid for the auctioned item, but have to pay the addition. I want to make sure to pay through Pay Pal. How does that work?

Have the buyer send you an invoice or a money request.

Okay.. so I did get an invoice from the seller today, but it is through his personal e-mail and not Ebay. Is that okay? Since I am new to all of this, I just don't want to do anything wrong. It is to pay through PayPal though.
