Hi all. We're taking my DH's family down in a couple of weeks and staying at the boardwalk. We have preferred but non-boardwalk view. I'm assuming most of those rooms overlook a pool?

We were wondering what the first floor rooms are like. Can you walk out of the balcony into the pool area? Do you feel the world is looking in at you? We have 5 small kids this trip (oldest is 8) and we thought it might be easier if we could get right out to the pool. Plus, if we're on the first floor the pitter patter of little feet won't bother anyone below us. :teeth:

The only problem--are a lot of the first floor rooms handicap accessible? Those rooms don't work for us (I know first hand, we've gotten one by pure luck on the last FOUR trips! It's a running joke now)

BTW, I love the recent posts about taking family. We are taking my in-laws and my SIL's family. I figure it will be like childbirth--extremely painful but wouldn't trade it for anything!

Hi Jennypenny.....
First of all, hello :wave2: to a fellow Pennsylvanian.
Secondly, I'm not a BW expert and I'm sure you'll get several responses to your questions, but I can tell you I stayed in a BW preferred room last summer and we did not face either pool. We were on the opposite side of the hallway and faced a canal and the valet parking lot. I don't know if a ground floor room would be able to see much of the parking lot through the trees though----I was on the 4th floor.
I'd think it would be to your advantage to request "pool view" and "non HA" from MS since you'll have the 5 small children with you. Have a nice trip with your extended family !

Jennypenny....Our last trip home we stayed in a ground floor villa. It faced the themed pool which was nice for going out to the pool but a little noisy at night.

ROOM 1095 FACES THE COMMUNITY HALL AND THE QUIET POOL. YOU CAN WALK RIGHT OUT THE BACK DOOR TO THESE AREAS. VERY QUIET, VERY CONVENIENT.

WE ALWAYS REQUEST 1ST FLOOR BYTHE COMMUNITY HALL AND GET IT EVERYTIME

BOB:wave:

I also recommend requesting a quiet pool/Community Hall view. These rooms are in a VERY nice location and the first floor rooms are great for a quick dip in the pool or hot tub!
Just an FYI, the number of preferred view BWV rooms that have the valet parking lot in view are in the minority and the valet parking lot is quite a ways off in the distance. There is a body of water w/fountain, grass, pathways etc between the villas and the valet parking lot.

I always request "bath tub" - as I am afraid of putting nonhandicap on the reservation. The last time I did this, we GOT a handicapped room. I think they glance at it and think it says handicapped!

We were in a Studio Plus room on the ground floor last month. Our view was of the porte de coche (sp?), but we could walk out our door and directly across the hall from our room was a door that led out to Luna Park pool. We actually out behind Leaping Libations pool bar just off to it's left side. I was just thrilled with this room and it was not HA.

We stayed in 1086 (studio) just a week ago (1/11 to 1/16) and thought it was a pretty good location. We were on a corner right next to a side entrance door and could walk right out on the patio, between the shrubberies and walk straight to the hot tub. Too bad we decided it was too cold to use it at night...and we're the type who are only seen in bathing suits after dark! It would have been great if we were pool lovers, though, just off of Luna Park. The usual resident bunny rabbits came out each night to feast on the vegetation between our room and the pool, too.

We were hardly in the room during the day when the pool noise, if there was any, would have been most noticeable. We didn't have a problem except for a noisy neighbor or two upstairs the first couple of nights.

The room was okay...a little mildew in the bathtub tiles, but my husband says that's because it never gets to dry out in the bathrooms because the doors have to stay shut or you can't get around by the vanity. There was also some chipped paint around the inside of the bathroom door knob like somebody got locked in and had to pick their way out...

A little far from the elevators but not a bad walk from the Boardwalk, just around the corner and down a little. Not too far from Muscle and Bustles, either.

But if you do stay in the general vicinity, I have to know...is the dirty diaper still laid neatly on the edge of the sidewalk just outside the door to the pool area from there? It stayed there all week when we were there, the staff must not use that door much and I never did have the nerve to accost one and ask them to take care of it!:earseek:  :earseek:

Thanks for the replies! I'm really considering asking for a room on the first floor now. We'll have two infants, and it would be nice if the older kids could walk over to community hall while the babies were sleeping in the afternoon. Plus, we would never let the kids out on an upper balcony, but it would be nice for them to sit out on a patio.

I have already requested non-smoking (for asthma reasons) and non-handicapped. And we have two rooms (a 2 bedroom and a studio) and I've requested that they be as close to each other as possible.

Is requesting a first floor room near Community Hall asking too much? It's not a necessity like the other three items. It just sounds nice. Should I just request first floor? I'm thinking most people, if anything, request an upper floor.

I guess I just got lucky then ? ;)
They may be in the minority (which is a very good thing especially for getting charged PV points !), but I'd still make certain I was never placed there again. True....the valet parking lot is in the distance but it's ALL you can see when you're inside the room and sitting on the couch or bed. Even with the parking lot in the distance, I could see my husband clearly when he went to our car to retrieve a piece of luggage we had forgotten----so it's not that far away.
I could not see the water, grassy area etc from inside the room---only when we were actually standing on the balcony. Also, there is a service driveway that is in front of the parking lot---we heard/saw the delivery/maintenance trucks on and off during the day and night.
So my point is, regardless of how in the minority these rooms are (btw, we were also very far away from the elevator---not the best with young children), I still feel the need to alert folks to these Preferred View rooms whenever I get the chance. I'm aware there are many nice views at BWV---I would have loved a pool view---and this is why I suggested to the OP that she make this request with MS now. She had the assumption that all PV rooms were pool view in her OP (beside BW view) and I just wanted to alert her that they are not. My mistake was I didn't make any special requests, besides "non-smoking" when I made my ressie, and got stuck with that room. I just never thought using PV points that I'd get a view (primarily) of the parking lot
I learned ! Just passing on the wisdon I gained :D

What was the room number of this room? Did you speak to MS and the front desk? It does not sound like any preferred view villa we have ever had at BWV and we have stayed in quite a few villas over the years! I will make sure to make a note of this villa to also avoid it, if it is that bad. Matter of fact I will make sure to check it out in less than 18 hours!!! Yahoo!!!

It was 4131.....I did call MS to inquire about it. I honestly thought they made a mistake. I asked to be credited back the difference in the amount PV points and just be charged for SV. MS put me on hold while they called the BW. Came back and told me, "sorry" and that was indeed a PV room. When I originally posted about this in August (upon our return), alot of people on these boards told me they firmly believed this was a SV room---and a couple in fact, had told me they had a similar view on that side and WERE charged SV points. Maybe the BW redesignated this slot of rooms to PV ? Not sure, but you've been lucky to avoid it thus far. Have a great time at the BWV ---you may have left already !
