Hi,

I am planning a first time visit to DLR for DH and I. We've been to WDW many times, but never DLR. We were originally wanting to go in June, but now I've heard about the SoCal AP blackout dates and grad nights to take into account.

I am also working around trying to get the cheapest flights, and I've found a pretty good deal if we fly in on Sunday, July 4th. We would be staying 3 nights, checking out on Wednesday, July 7th. We would do the parks on Monday and Tuesday.

Can anyone share some experience on whether this is an okay time to go? I thought that maybe the crowds wouldn't be so bad since these dates are SoCal AP blackout dates, and that (hopefully) most people wouldn't be in the parks on Monday and Tuesday after a holiday weekend.

Also, since we will be arriving on the 4th, (but not going into the park) will there be fireworks to watch from the hotel? We are going to stay at the Disneyland Hotel.

Any help is appreciated! Thank you! :goodvibes

Nan

The crowds shouldn't be too bad if they are AP blockout dates. It is the height of summer and ALL schools are on break, but if you go early in the morning, go back to the hotel for lunch and a rest, then return in the evening all charged up, you should be fine. Yes, you can see the fireworks from the hotel. Ask the front clerk to give you a room for good viewing. It can't hurt to ask.

I'd have a little concern that it may be busier because of people taking 3 day weekends. On the otherhand you are right weekdays at DL, much better. As far as viewing the firworks from the hotel, you probably want to see them in the park.

I've seen the firework shows in both WDW and DL and DL's is far better. I wouldn't want to be too far away. Also the audio is integral to the show. I know at WDW in the Contemporary they play the audio in the hotel during the show. I've yet to hear this about DL.

This may not matter at all because starting in June they will have a new firework show.

Also on tuesday they will have Morning Madness in DL, you could think of this as EMH in the morning only.

I just went to Disneyland for two days. Friday no APs were blocked out and the crowds weren't bad. Saturday APs were blocked out and the crowds were much heavier. I think there's a reason APs are blocked out; because Disney knows there'll be more people traveling without APs to the resort. However, the crowds were still manageable, so I wouldn't worry.

Early July last year was one of the slowest times of the year. Just saying... :)
