1br, two people-who gets the bedroom?

Depends on the friend. Many of them are like sisters; we'd just both stay in the bedroom. Not a big deal.

For others, I would take the bedroom unless my friend would not be comfortable on the sleeper (older, or back issues or something). Then I'd take the sofa.

How can I accept that? I wouldn't feel right, I would feel a need to repay somehow, but if I say no thanks... am I insulting you or our friendship? Now I feel awkward. Maybe I should pay for your park tickets and some meals.

Yeah, if I were the friend I'd turn it down, unless a good reason went with it - "Its your birthday trip" or "I get up at 5am and WANT my coffee. Then I take a jog around the lake and come back to the room. I'll hop into the shower and be done around 6:30 or so - its really best if I can do all that without having to walk through the area you are sleeping in."

You are a wonderful friend to bring a guest! If I was someone's guest, I would assume that the couch is my bed for the trip. As someone else said, a concrete slab would work fine!

Funnily enough, when my family of four went to Hilton Head in November, my husband and oldest son slept on the pullout couch (they go to sleep LATE), and my little guy and me shared the bed. Ha ha. Whatever works and makes everyone happy!!

I think most friends would say no to taking the only bedroom when you are providing the room.

My points, my king bed. I would have made that clear when offering them the use of my villa. Otherwise, they can get their own.

Gee, I'm really surprised more people wouldn't just share the bed! It's a king size bed after all!

I've been on so many trips where I've had to share beds with either my sister, friends, cousins, etc. (And those were usually full or queen beds!) I would see no issue whatsoever with both using the king size bed.

(Then again, I am not an only child. It seems that being an only child would make it more difficult to share a bed, let alone a bedroom.)

You get the bedroom without a doubt. When I went on vacation with a friend and was in the same situation, I found a place in the living room where my friend could put her things and then put her suitcase away in the bedroom. I did feel a little funny but she was so happy to be on vacation, my treat, I don't think she even realized that I got the bedroom. Don't worry about it too much she isn't expecting alot.
