I have reserved a 1BR at the BWV for next October. My wife and myself, and 2 young children, 4 & 2 years old... Any view or location I should make a request for? Any suggestions appreciated!

It depends. Did you book standard view, preferred view, or boardwalk view?

With small children, I might ask for a ground level or lower level room for less waiting on the elevators.

My reservation was from an RCI Exchange from Hilton Grand Vacation Club... I'm asssuming its a standard view, but I'll find out.

There are three booking categories at the Boardwalk - standard, preferred, and boardwalk.

Boardwalk is the most desirable view although I have not had a bad view no matter what category I booked.

According to many, the hallways can be long. If you want to cut down on some walking, request something close to the lobby.

It will be Food & Wine Festival time during your stay. The Boardwalk is a great location to take advantage of the Festival. You will have a great time. Enjoy!

As far as I know, the exchanges are generally Preferred. Standard tends to book up internally, because of the lower point requirements.

So with a preferred view, you'll probably have either Luna Park pool or the quiet pool. Go with higher level, near the elevator if you want convenient.

I think so, but assuming that exchanges at BWV are usually "preferred view" that pretty much limits it to pool or garden view requests.

Was wondering this too. Also, I had no idea that the exchanges can be before the 7 month window. So an exchange can be booked at the 11 month window like an owner of that resort? This is new info for me.

I exchanged in via HGVC Via RCI... They actually allow me to place my request 24 months ahead of time...pending availabilty. I originally opened my search this summer, but had gotten matches the past few weeks, of which I chose the BWV.

You can request a location within the specific view category to which your exchange was assigned. You cannot change bookable view category---that is fixed at the time of exchange. So, for exchanges assigned to the Preferred view category, you can request *within* that category, but you cannot ask to switch to Standard or Boardwalk. As mentioned, BWV seems to only deposit Preferred.

Edited to add: at other resorts with bookable categories, AKV seems to deposit only Standard and Savannah, and OKW seems to deposit only General Resort. BLT has not been known to deposit, but I assume that when the time comes, it will be mostly Lake.

Availability is determined by whatever DVC is willing to deposit. I have seen deposits as early as 11 months to the day, but no earlier. It is to DVC's advantage to deposit inventory earlier than the seven month mark; RCI begins to penalize deposits at nine months prior to use.

It appears that the deposits are done by hand; they tend to "bunch up", but not in as regular a way as they would be if it were automated. DVC tends to deposit things that are lower-than-average demand internally, but not exclusively so---you do see some holiday weeks and other "hard to get" things show up, but they are less common than random chance would suggest. It is not known whether deposits are drawn from the Member's home resort exclusively, or if DVC has some flexibility in choosing. Presumably, if a Member asks to make an exchange, DVC would follow the same rules for selecting deposited inventory that the Member would be subject to if that Member were reserving to deposit. But, I don't think that is known for sure either.
